Bestiary Addition
ㄨ Fire Lizards ㄨ
Due to eager reception of the idea, fire lizards are being introduced into the Ruby City bestiary. However, because they come from a specific canon (The Dragonriders of Pern) and come along with specific rules and behaviours, they're getting this handy OOC post to go along with them, which will be linked to their bestiary entry for future reference. Fire lizards will be henceforth found in the lower areas of the mountains, usually located near water.
Fire lizards are, essentially, small dragons. They are roughly the size of a large bird, and come in several colours with specific genders and personality types.
ㄨ Colours & Personalities ㄨ
Gold fire lizards are known as the queens. They will always be female, and are the largest and rarest type to be found. Golds are bossy and demanding, and very selective. Impressing one will require mod permission due to their rarity, and also due to the fact that Gold fire lizards are the main breeding colour of the species, producing ten to fifteen eggs in each clutch. A Gold fire lizard, if found, is most likely to Impress on a person who has the personality of a leader; someone who is in control of themselves and has the ability to lead others.
If you feel your character absolutely must Impress a Gold, please send a PM to the mods.
Bronze fire lizards are the second largest, slightly smaller than the Golds, and are always male. The rarest male colour, they are usually arrogant and a little egotistical, suited to someone who can handle their big personalities. A confident and collected person is most likely to successfully Impress a Bronze.
Brown fire lizards are smaller again than the Bronze, lacking in the stamina of their larger kin. Browns will always be male, quieter and less arrogant; more capable of logical thought processes and much calmer overall. Less likely to bluster and show off, they would be most likely to Impress on a person who is logical and contemplative.
Blue fire lizards are always male, smaller still and a little flighty by nature. While they lack the stamina of the larger fire lizards, they make up for it in bravery and determination. A Blue would be likely to Impress on someone who is motivated and driven to succeed even if the odds are stacked up against them.
Green fire lizards are the smallest of the species, and are exclusively female. While they're capable of clutching, they will only lay five eggs at the most and aren't capable of producing anything above a Brown. Greens are feisty despite their size, and are the fastest colour (though their low stamina means they aren't a match for a Gold/Bronze in endurance), as well as being the most common. Someone who is curious and energetic would be most likely to Impress a Green.
Please note that these are only guidelines, and personalities will vary from fire lizard to fire lizard.

They are very sensitive to emotion, and communicate with a limited telepathy which they use to convey images and abstract thoughts. For example, when a fire lizard is hungry, they won't say as much using words but will communicate images of food and the sensation of hunger. They love sweets... but they shouldn't eat them. Their diets should consist mainly of meat and fish, along with insects.
Fire lizards are capable of producing fire by chewing Firestone, but are unable to if they don't have access to it. Due to their naturally light weight, they have trouble carrying anything extra, and are very easily weighed down.
Highly sociable creatures, in the wild they will travel in groups known as fairs, and they love to sing as well as being attracted to music (often joining in). They are very long lived, even presumed to be immortal, as one has never been known to die of old age or disease. However, they need to be cared for, as their skin will crack if allowed to dry out, almost inevitably leading to death.
On reaching maturity and going into heat (at around two or three years old), fire lizards will seek out their first mate. This will have the side-effect of arousal and lowered inhibitions for the person who Impressed them, but it is more discomforting (and potentially embarrassing) than overwhelming.

They will Impress on the first thing that feeds them, so the best bet would be to find a freshly hatched nest and try your luck. If you're successful, you have a companion for life. They will devotedly stay by the side of someone who treats them well, but can be driven off and will abandon someone who treats them badly.
Fire lizards regard the individual that Impresses them as their 'alpha dragon', and can become very attached as time wears on. Should that person die, they will revert to a wild state, though it's possible that they will still hang around the place where the person lived in order to be fed. One person may be able to Impress multiple fire lizards.
They can be found breeding in Ruby City between the warmer months of May and September.
