[Waver may have only just gotten here as well, but he's definitely figured out how the network works (after a lot of trial, error, and unamused swearing.) So, give him a moment to stare, boggle because that cannot be who he thinks it is, and then send back a video response that sums up all his emotions in one, simple word]

[--That voice sounds familiar, and certainly knows her, but the face of the person on the transmission isn't familiar except in... strange ways. Frowning, Saber keeps the camera where it is on her transmission.]

[Okay, that confirms that it is exactly who Waver thinks it is. And if she's here, then time's gone askew, and one of the proper magics is in play. Fifth magic, most likely, or the second. Something well beyond his ability to use.

He takes a beat, because if this is in any way related to time traveling then what he says could have an impact on the fourth war, or else the fifth, and thus his life.]

It'd probably help you if you pictured me twenty years younger and falling around on my ass. [he takes his hair up in his free hand and holds it up to where about where it fell at age nineteen]

[Arthur allows the camera to rise to her face, looking a little dumbfounded for just a moment.]

...I beg your pardon, I was... never privy to your name.

[She clears her throat, obviously trying to hide some level of concern for the situation.]

But by what magic could this be?

--Ah, no, you wouldn't have been, would you? [It was always boy, until that bridge. Not that he thinks Saber ever learned about that little moment, and it can be discussed later. Not now, not when there are far more important things to hash out.]

Waver Velvet, with the edition of Lord El-Melloi II. As for magic, my guess is the fifth, which deals with time travel. Problem is I don't know who is using it. And if you're here and I'm here, then there are probably plenty of others as well, scattered from different years.

[For some reason, Arthur isn't so sure. But with such a title, it would be true that Waver was a well-studied educator, would it not be?]

I am not, nor are there to be any more servant and master teams, or any more grail wars. I dismantled the thing alongside one of the founding families of the Grail War system about, mm, a month ago.

[But what could that mean? He couldn't have been alive, or at least not as young as he is on her communicator.]

I see. [he takes a beat and considers all of this, including her previous statement and--] -- Ah, well that's that mystery solved.

[Not that he just made sense to anyone else.] There was a glitch in the grail system, meaning that the grail reappeared after ten years rather than the usual sixty.

[Mystery solved?!]

[The Grail-- glitched? Gone? It wasn't... She had to...]

Something went awry in the third war that bollocked up everything else. Which makes a concerning amount of sense when you consider that individuals like Caster were considered quote-un-quote heroic spirits eligible for summons.

Luc is easily enabled.

[It couldn't be, it couldn't be, it couldn't be. She had to win the grail, she had to make amends--]

How?! How was there no other option?!

So really everyone wins.

Because if you are given the choice between destroying an entire city for the third time in thirty years and letting the cycle perpetuate itself or destroying the cause of the problem so that there is no future harm, which are you going to go with?

[The look on her face makes it clear; she isn't thinking of Fuyuki when she thinks of something desecrated.]

Then-- then that was Gilgamesh's wish?!

[he shakes his head no]

--As far as we've come to understand it, through studying the leylines the grail uses, the Grail wasn't even wished upon in the fourth war, and the accumulated prana within it from -- [from all the servants including Rider and he still can't disconnect that thought] -- The prana gathered was unused and it was unable to sit for very long. So, it occured ten years later for the fifth war, and again, it was not used properly. So, no, I don't think the fire is Archer's doing.

Perhaps I should give a more complete history from where I'm standing, so that we're on the same page.

Perhaps a more thorough explanation would be beneficial.

[This is not a happy Saber. This is not an okay Saber. She can barely keep herself from shaking.]

--Prior to you fight, Archer's opponent was Rider. I believe you can surmise the outcome of the fight, based on the final opponents.

The after is what concerns you then. There was a massive fire where the grail materialized and Fuyuki was devastated. The place is now a park by the way, although unsurprisingly empty based on what happened there.

Anyway, ten years passed, and the Grail returned. I'm lucky enough to have found a friend in one of the fifth war's participants, which is why I even know about this, but during the course of war five, the Grail nearly was completed again, but failed. Gilgamesh er-- well, he somehow lingered in those ten years, but was eventually defeated. The destruction of the Grail, this time, was limited to the temple in the hills of Fuyuki, and disaster was mostly avoided.

Onto what for me is the present. [he breathes out] The Mages Association tried to continue the wars. Rin Tohsaka, head of one of the founding families of the grail war system, opposed them based on the fact that land of Fuyuki was hers to administer and everyone involved knew that the system was broken. Rin is a friend, I offered help, and we did what was needed to take the system apart.

[untilavalon]

[Arthur barely notices how her heart begins to race as he relays the story. She can no longer keep herself from shaking, and the watch wobbles in her hand.

Her breath hitches in her throat and her voice almost cracks when she speaks.]

That can't be. The grail can't be cursed. That can't be! I had to win, I was destined to win!

Respectfully, what reason would I have to give out false information concerning the nature of the grail?

[Arthur shakes, her voice nearly a shriek as she tries to command him. He doesn't understand. Why doesn't he understand?
