NOV. TEST DRIVE

Sorry to be late this time!

G'day, Ruby City!

Thinking of apping a character but not sure they'll fit in the city walls?

Have no fear, a meme for you is here.

Directions:

  • Post with your character with their name and canon on top!

  • Choose a location and prompt or wait for someone else to tag.

  • If you'd like, leave contact info for people to get in contact for plotting and other such shenans.

  • Tag around! Make friends. Don't be afraid to chat OOC while tagging.

Locations:

  1. Train Station: New arrival, or waiting to welcome people? Either way, the train comes in, but you still can't ride it out.

  2. Cathedral: Looking for redemption? Just doing a little sight-seeing? Or just getting a little shelter?

  3. The Clocktower: You can see the whole city from here!

  4. The Black Stallion Saloon: You were told the burgers were great here-- but maybe you just came for the beer.

  5. The Library: You came to do a little research, but it looks like all of the information's just out of your reach. Though, you can always find a way to pass the time here.

  6. The Coffee Joint: A lovely place to have a chat and a bite to eat.

  7. Le Cafe Anglais: A Parisian-British fusion that's as charming as it sounds and serves the best tea around.

Scenarios

  1. Just walked in: You intended to get here, and you made your way in; but now someone's caught your eye and you'd like to have a chat.

  2. Been here all day: You've been sitting around minding the time. Maybe you didn't notice them at first or maybe you were just working up the courage to talk-- either way, they know you're here and you know it too.

  3. Bad weather: You're here because you've gotten rained in. This wasn't your choice, but at least it's dry-- right?

  4. Wild card: Got something better in mind? Well screw these prompts, try it out yourself!

Have fun, guys!

A train... how interesting. [ She blinks, and then tilts her head. ] I see... erm, no. I am from Romania; Wallachia to be exact.

[ Yeah, she's definitely never heard of a train before. Or Japan, either... or America. Sheltered? A little, yes, but... well. Eras, man. ]

Oh! Forgive me for being so very rude, my name is Annette Renard. [ She's leaving the 'Belmont' part off for now. IF HE'S A VAMPIRE THAT'S THE LAST THING SHE WANTS FOR HIM TO HEAR. ]

Oooh, maybe Apollo Justice: Attorney at Law and Private Panty Investigator!

[ Man, you have no idea how much she likes you right now. ]

You're right... I wonder what else he carries in them? It's almost like they're endless! We should find out!

I recommend a full strip search. It is the only way to be completely certain.

[ If it's making fun of Apollo, Blackquill is totally on board. ]

As long as I don't have to be present for that particular part, I completely agree! Ooh, and then after that he has to wear a chicken costume. A chicken costume without pockets, because we don't want him stuffing more things into any pockets! Plus it'd be funny to see him dressed up like a chicken.

[ She nods sagely. ]
dotard: (good taka)

It is. I hold a great fondness for it.

[ No yelling here, just smug smirking. And petting his hawk because it makes him look cool. ]

As new as one can be, I imagine. I don't recall boarding any trains, either. Given my circumstances, a train wouldn't have been my first choice if I'd found myself alone.

[ Without his usual police detail, that is. ]
dotard: (you've activated my trap card)

an infinite pit of panties

[personal profile] dotard 2013-11-09 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
Interesting is correct. You've come a long way, then.

[ There's not way you could catch a train from Romania and Japanifornia and end up in the same place. That's an interesting f ]

Not at all, my lady. It is I who have committed the faux pas. My name is Simon Blackquill. It's lovely to meet you.

[ And being charming is the fastest way to get people to trust you, right? ]
alwayskidnapped: (worried)

the dreaded panty monster lives there

[personal profile] alwayskidnapped 2013-11-09 06:02 am (UTC)(link)
[ Interesting and CONFUSING. She doesn't like it. ]

A pleasure to meet you as well, Mr. Blackquill.

[ This is true. It's already working! She peers around again, before placing a hand against her own cheek. It's clear she's quite distressed; when she'd awakened this morning and said goodbye to her husband to head out for her daily chores, this was the last thing she'd ever expected. ]

I suppose there is no way out of it; it appears we'll have to explore...

This is called Ruby City. It's- er- well it's a city, obviously. People get sent here from all over.

[ Labrys steps fully into sight, approaching a few feet before stopping and shrugging, gears whirring slightly at the movement. ]

I'm sorry there's not really a way back. We're all stuck.

[ She rings her hands a little. This part...wasn't enjoyable. ]

Bah. [grumpy arm crossing] There must be others who are almost of my caliber, I am sure of it. They must simply be found and tested.

Well, yes, in a way. There's seven of them, but I only know about four of them, and I've only met two of those in person. They say they're the ones who've brought us here, but getting any other information out of them is...

[ she frowns, sighing. ] Well, they don't seem to want to share it with us.
gordianknots: Please don't waste your pity votes on me (And I will never go home again)

[personal profile] gordianknots 2013-11-09 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, you might find someone here. There's enough people from across time and space. [He laughs] Darius himself might even show up.

[NOTE: Spoilers for Case 3/Junie's knowledge of the later cases will not be brought up unless you tell me it's okay! Thread titles will be marked clearly if there are any spoilers.]

[A] (Clocktower)

[Juniper still wasn't used to this city, no matter how many times she had been around it. But she had found that her favorite place to be was on top of the Clock Tower, because of the view. She was used to being up high, living at over 3,000 feet back at home, so the height didn't bother her. Still, the view was breathtaking every single time she went up there.

And as usual she wasn't looking around to see if anyone else was coming up or was already there.]

--

[B] (Arrival, Train station)

[What was this place? Juniper clutched a sunflower from the top of her hat and breathed it in, attempting to calm down. It wasn't working quite like she wanted it to, though. She didn't know anybody here, she didn't know where to go... it was almost too much to bear. How did she end up on that train? Why was she forced out here? All these questions and more continued to poke at her mind as she began walking around the city...]

I didn't think Americans would appreciate such a thing, I'm rather impressed. Most of our foreign business partners look at me and say 'is she a geisha?'

[personal profile] bearslight 2013-11-09 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
[ OPTION A: THE LIBRARY ]

[ Sam knows libraries; perhaps not as intimately as his brother Buddha, but he knows them all the same. working part-time as a university librarian at one of the stuffiest universities on Earth does that to you. in any case, apart from being rather fascinating repositories of knowledge and also evoking fond memories of better times spent in Heaven, libraries also attract Sam for one other reason.

they make such excellent weapons to utilise in one's arsenal. know thine enemy is one of the first principles of survival, right above and be prepared to sock him in the face with magic when he least expects it. and since he's currently and rather worrying trapped in what seems to be a whole other universe, he needs all the information he can get. know the rules you're expected to play by, and you know better how to break them.

a pity, then, that there seems to be a grand total of absolutely nothing useful pertaining to the city in here.

anyone wandering through the library will find a man, with black hair, pitch-black eyes, and an assortment of black, shapeless, and wholly unfashionable clothes, sitting behind a stack of books that he's now abandoned in favour of folding intricately elaborate paper planes. he's launching them through the open window next to him, apparently amusing himself.

some of those planes definitely look like they're impossible, from a paper engineering standpoint. ]

[ OPTION B: THE GENERAL STORE ]

[ what is this scarecrow-esque man with the weirdly intense gaze doing? well, even the 100%-incognito Devil Incarnate needs to go grocery shopping, you know.

this, however, does not answer the mystery of why his basket is full of nothing but cans of coca-cola and many tubes of differently coloured toothpaste. perhaps someone should question him on his bizarre shopping choices. ]

[Clocktower]

[Strange new locales? Communication links cut off? Suspicious circumstances and weird objects planted on him after being knocked unconscious? Well it was a bit extreme, but nothing he hadn't seen before. Probably. Certainly nothing he hadn't trained for at one point in his life.

He was grateful he'd been dropped off in his Robin costume, meaning he was more than well-equipped to at least scout the area. Hopefully it didn't mean his identity had been compromised or anything-- but that was a concern to deal with later, since there seemed to be a suspicious lack of news broadcasting outlets.

In the mean time, he'd made his way to the highest point in the city: the clocktower (how predictable!), and had perched in the highest, out of view spot he could to begin his surveillance. He held a small pair of binoculars retrieved from his belt in front of his mask, as he stood crouched on the tip of his toes, dangerously on the edge, and studied the old city below.

Of course, the small boy was entirely positive he was alone, and he was pretty chatty in the best company; when he was alone, he just kind of...started talking to himself. Which was probably the source of the very soft mumbling under the boy's breath.]

[--Busted.

Robin quickly spun around on his heels-- which was kind of impressive, given he was doing so with a cape trailing behind him and without losing his balance on the edge.

For a moment, he just stared, at least until he realized that it just seemed to be a normal, teenage girl.]

Nothing really. [He brushed off the topic; not that it was an important topic, but what kind of superhero went around criticizing architecture when he was on surveillance?]

So-- who're you? I'm kind of new to town, thought I'd show myself around.

[ When Jason saw a flash of cape in the corner of his eye, he thought he might be going crazy. Or more crazy, anyway. For a half a moment he thought maybe he could ignore it. Not follow it, not see where it takes him, who it takes him to- but there's a reason it was half a moment because he's never been able to lie to himself about this kind of thing. One minute he's smoking and the next that cigarette is left abandoned and he's a good 100 feet away, chasing after shadows.

The kid was good, Jason could give him that. Young though. Way young. Same age Jay was when he started the fucked up path of being a vigilante. It wasn't hard to stay out of the kids sight though. With age came experience and Jason had his own in spades. Listening from the shadows, quirks an eyebrow. Chatty kid. Reminded him of another chatty bastard he knew.

Jason steps into the light with a seemingly relaxed posture. Seemingly, anyway. He still had all those knives up his sleeves. ]

I hear it's making a real comeback, actually.

[personal profile] acrobatrick 2013-11-10 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
[Robin was on edge in an instant; in one motion he'd stood up and whirled around to face the source of the voice, sliding the binoculars back into his belt underneath his cape. The tone of voice, the way the man carried himself-- it certainly didn't scream nice guy.]

Really? [His voice took an inquisitive and slightly sarcastic upswing, though it was clear he was on guard. He didn't reach for anything else, but his hands remained low, ready to pull out a new trick at the drop of a hat.] Seems a little old-fashioned to me. I would've gone with something more baroque or gothic myself if we're going for the classics.

[personal profile] acrobatrick 2013-11-10 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
Really? [Hm; he must've been the first costumed crimefighter to show up. Or at least the only one that was active-- or maybe they were just less common. It did seem like a big city, and Robin almost felt too high-tech to actually be here.] It's pretty common where I'm from.

[As Maya stepped closer to the edge, Robin stepped to the side and jumped up, doing a small flip in the air before he landed on the ground next to her. Show-off.]

Call me Robin. {He grinned and held a hand out to her as he straightened up.] Nice to meet you, miss.

[ Jason couldn't really bring himself to reply. Eyes wide, mouth slightly open, he stared at the little emblem sitting over the boy's heart. This was not okay. This was not okay.

He didn't recognize this kid, though. It wasn't the Replacement, too young for that; there was time bullshit going on here. Someone after the Replacement? Certainly not before because Jason sure as hell didn't remember ever getting pants. ]

--holy shit.
