Time for something fun!

Need a little pick me up? Or just feel like playing something really stupid? It's time for a meme.

The Magical Swap Meme
or the 'oops, you done fucked up' meme

courtesy of Luc*

Directions

  1. Post your character with the name/canon in the subject meme. In your comment, put your preferences such as, "I don't want to do prompt #1" or "for the gender swap prompt, [character] will look like [this]" or "for the age swap prompt, my character will be 5 years younger".

  2. Tag each other and have fun.

Prompts

  • Body Swap: Holy shit. You're looking at yourself like you're looking in a mirror. The only problem is, when you're looking down at your own hands... you're in someone else's body.

  • Gender Swap: Well, this is new; you're now no longer in the right body, but it's still yours. Were you always a girl? You sure weren't yesterday. Of course, this is probably another one of the city's tricks; no point in getting all up in arms about it, is there?

  • Age Swap: Are you starting to see a pattern here? Now you're younger-- or older-- than you were a little while ago. Who're you going to bug about your height now?

  • Canon Swap: Your entire history is different now. Suddenly, you're a homestuck. Or maybe you're an elf. Or perhaps you're not even switching canons with the person you're threading with. What's the damage?

  • Power Swap:...Like the one above, but with powers instead of canons.

  • Moral Alignment Swap: Suddenly, you're evil as hell. Or maybe you're really good now. Or maybe your moral alignment is "eh /non-commital wiggly hand gesture". I don't make the rules here, bucko.

  • Luc, you didn't include this swap I wanted to do!: Well look at you, you have a bigger imagination than I do. What are you waiting for? Swap it. Just swap it. Do it, before it's too late.

You now have four minutes to save the world.**

*If it's a bad meme, it wasn't my idea.
**You do not have four minutes to save the world. In fact, there's really no point in worrying about world saving right now.

You think?

[ Surprised, perhaps unable to see the similarities in himself; he rubs at his jaw. Although even at the age of ten it's just as obvious, if softened by youth. ]

And no, dubious confectionaries weren't involved. I woke up like this. Happened to a few others, too. Pendragon or Rogers will be addressing the comms shortly.

[ Welp, he's uncrossed his ankles to stand now, showing off his new height and build with little to no humility. Is he? Yes. Taller than Eddie. And absolutely aware of it, judging by the way his smirk widens, slowly. ]

But let's just say if a drink me option pops up, I'll pass.

Mmm. I'm not as familiar with Talia, but I can see a bit of her there, too. Shape of your eyes. Cheekbones.

[ He's used to being a shorter rogue. He's never been a particularly big man, and that's fine. ]

Father's height, too. Though Talia was hardly a small woman.
earlybird: (10% smugness minimum in every smile)

[ This is about the time he normally starts preening about his genetics, but he crosses his arms instead - suddenly self-conscious, maybe. For a child essentially estranged from both his parents, it's one thing to know his heritage, and another for people to be able to look at him and see it. ]

Yeah, she's pretty tall.

[ Not self-conscious for long, though. Damian's self-esteem recovers quickly, and he's not shy about ambling over to loom properly over Eddie, hands on his hips and absolutely pleased with himself. ]

I think I finally found something I like about this place. Now just to convince Grayson to hand the cowl over to me.

Ah, but don't get ahead of yourself, young Master Damian [ Edward does a remarkably good impression of Alfred Pennyworth - he's met the man all of twice, but he has a very good memory of these things ] This affect is likely temporary. You'll go back to yourself sometime or another.
earlybird: (HMMMMM)

[personal profile] earlybird 2014-06-21 02:46 pm (UTC)(link)
[ His eyes narrow, contemplative, as he thumbs his chin, lips pursed. It's the same posture he takes a million times when working out how best to approach a challenge, and now it's easy to see how much of it is yanked directly from Bruce's own responses (except the pout, that's all Damian's). ]

I bet I could find a way to make it permanent. I hear Gold's resourceful, can make deals.

[ He doesn't want to go back to being ten. He's taller, stronger, and though he was a threat before, nobody can look at him and ever argue otherwise. Even relaxed, he still moves like a predator - a panther instead of a kitten, now. Who'd want to go back to that? ]
questionslinger: (The Hell You Say)

[personal profile] questionslinger 2014-06-22 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah--

No. [ It's just so simple. No. He forbids it. Denies the idea, as if it were that easy. ]

There are many things between the boy you are now and the man you must become... that only time can give. Wisdom of experience, growth in both skill and compassion. Don't let your eagerness to become the man you think your father is blind you to the man that you can become.

There are some things that only come with age. If you do not understand the myriad affects that will shape you as you grow, you cannot understand how to be that person to his fullest.
earlybird: (oh shit)

[personal profile] earlybird 2014-06-23 08:13 am (UTC)(link)
[ Damian's never been unhappy, being so young. Irritated, maybe, that he's constantly underestimated and looked down upon, despite his formidable ability to hold his own in any fight and despite his advanced education. He's never seen it as a handicap - he takes down larger opponents just as matter-of-factly as he'll take down ones his own size, rips apart presumptions by performing mathematical feats and building flying cars. He considers himself an equal, or more frequently even a superior, to the adults around him.

But adulthood is addicting. Years of physical development, bypassed.

His face falls into a frown at Nygma's denial. He understands well enough, what the man's telling him; however, Damian is intensely stubborn. ]

A year is a year, whether I'm a youth or an adult. What difference could it make?

[ Damian's problem has always been the smallness of his world. Everything revolves solely around his identity as Robin. So to the boy, a year spent in the field is a year of experience either way; age, irrelevant. ]
questionslinger: (Are You Sure About That?)

[personal profile] questionslinger 2014-06-23 04:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Because there's more to being a man than there is to simply being a crime fighter. Things you learn that have everything to do with your body and how it works, reacts, how it needs or doesn't respond to certain stimuli.

...and I'm not just talking sex, before you get all... eleven about the sticky bits.

[ Because he knows you, little man. He knows where you'll go with that and it's the wrong place to go. ]

Because you cannot expect to understand someone who has grown up and struggled in a world larger than themselves if you skipped a big chunk of it.

You already lost a great deal of childhood.

Don't let the rest go.
earlybird: (wait...shit)

[personal profile] earlybird 2014-06-23 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Yep, there goes the nose, wrinkling in disgust even as his cheeks turn a deep, ruddy red. More like you went there, Nygma. He wasn't going to say anything. ]

As if I care about that.

[ Gross.

He shifts his weight, sulking, because he knows and hates that Eddie has a point. ]

I don't have a use for childhood. [ Grousing. The grumpy kind that says Eddie's won, tilting his head down and away with a low grumble of discontent. At least the upgrade in height seems to have, surprisingly, come with a more even temper and steadier patience; by now, normally, he would have been truly agitated at the thought that he wouldn't be allowed to skip straight to adulthood. ]
questionslinger: (Deep Dark Thoughts)

[personal profile] questionslinger 2014-06-24 04:28 pm (UTC)(link)
You do. The things we have use for.... we never see it until they're lost. Don't surrender it so willingly. [ He reaches out to clap the mans's shoulder, before he gestures. ] Hungry, then?

[ He headed toward the kitchen, ready to dish food up and engage in easy conversation. ]
earlybird: (secret junk food lover)

[personal profile] earlybird 2014-06-24 07:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. All the time.

[ The promise of food has Damian doggedly trailing along at Eddie's heels, an overgrown shadow with a penchant for complaining. He wasn't expecting his body's upkeep would require him to devour thousands of calories a day, but the larger size and the muscle he's packed on means he is always hungry. Damian, normally, already eats plenty (even if he can never seem to stick to a schedule beyond his morning omelette), but this is on an entirely new level. ]

I had five portobello burgers earlier--

[ No barbecue is safe. ]

--but my stomach is eating itself.

[ Damian definitely had ulterior motives beyond showing off his age-jump in coming to Nygma's house. The man is one of the few people who'll feed him. ]

Well, the magic's probably given you growth and burned through all that food. Also that body is a high-energy machine. Sort of like having a Lamborghini. Needs lots of fuel to run it at the level you likely do, wit all the backflipping and butt kicking...

[ He glanced back ]

Still eating vegetarian, I presume?

[ Which is fine, Eddie knows how to make an amazing eggplant curry. ]
earlybird: (EXCITEMENT)

[personal profile] earlybird 2014-06-25 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Flying Lamborghini. [ Important correction. It's followed by a pleased click--

(of course he's one of the best models, objectively)

--and a roll of his tongue in perfect imitation of the Gallardo's engine as it revs. ]

Pretty much, yeah. [ Damian isn't remotely religious, but he spent his formative years eating halal - he doesn't trust meat if he doesn't know where it came from. And increasingly, he finds he just prefers not eating it when the opportunity arises (thinks of the animals it came from, and finds himself turned off from the taste altogether, illogical as it is). ]

Can I help?

[ The prince, volunteering his services: amazing. But from the look on his face, intent, energetic and upbeat, it's easy to see he wants to cook like an adult, because yes he is now an adult.

(It's a good opportunity for him to learn cooking skills beyond cutting things and making omelettes, even if Eddie is probably going to have to deal with him getting underfoot in the kitchen.) ]

[ Surprise, Edward will gladly help further his education in those skills because you should know how to cook! So he starts pulling down ingredients and giving little tidbits about their prepareation, such as salting the eggplant first and letting it sit to drain the liquid to proper knife technique in dicing. ]

[ Honestly, if he hadn't become a detective, Edward would have made a fine teacher. He loves to share his knowledge now, as opposed to hoard it and be a huge jerk about it. ]

earlybird: (certifiable badass)

[personal profile] earlybird 2014-06-27 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
[ Everyone should know how to cook.

But especially Bats. Pennyworth can't feed them forever. Eventually he is going to retire to the Bahamas with Bruce and never, ever die.

Ever.

Damian's paying attention. He's read cookbooks from the library, tried to translate the directions into action, but he's always been a kinetic learner - needed to be shown, and then try it himself, quick at mimicking and even quicker at perfecting a technique. So he watches, copies, learns, and shadows Eddie all around the kitchen.

(Weeks later, after practicing in secret, he'll show up with a perfectly delicious eggplant curry.)

He's particularly proud, though, of showing off how he can now retrieve the pans from the upper cabinets. An easy reach. No tip-toes even necessary.

What he is not so proud of is when he accidentally runs headfirst into one of the open cabinet doors with a hissed son of a bitch.

(Overhead clearance, less than used to.) ]

[ Edward is a learning sponge-- squeeze him just a touch, though, and it comes trickling out through your fingers. (Metaphorically. Edward does not want to be squeezed until anything oozes, thank you.) ]

[ He's a deft hand with a knife, and is helpfully going to allow Damian to show off while he does some of his own. It's a delicate balance-- being a teacher. He likes it. ]

[ The elephant sitting on the fence doesn't scare him as much as it used to. An answer that is shared is knowledge fostered. It's still hard, but this is the new Edward Nygma, the person who he wants to be as opposed to the person he was, the person he sometimes still is. ]

Another thing growing up is good for. You get used to your sizes as you get it. Gradual increase.
earlybird: (reading)

[personal profile] earlybird 2014-07-01 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Damian scowls at the cabinet door, closing it and rubbing his forehead, tongue clicking in irritation. ]

I can get used to it.

[ He's not giving up on his hope that this isn't temporary. ]

It's only happened once.

[ Five times. ]
questionslinger: (Be Gentle?)

[personal profile] questionslinger 2014-07-02 05:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Man can adjust to anything.

Doesn't mean it's a good thing.

[ He reaches out to pat the (man's?) boy's shoulder. ]

[ Faintly: ]
Five, Damian.

Five.
earlybird: (displeasure)

[personal profile] earlybird 2014-07-03 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
[ The. Largest. Scowl. ]

Nobody's counting.

[ Tongue clicks of displeasure all over the place today, he ducks -- down, and under, like he always does, only it's a little more of a ridiculous move coming from an adult man significantly taller than Eddie -- away from the hold, brushing past him to sulk and finish prepping the pan. ]
questionslinger: (Smug As Shit)

[personal profile] questionslinger 2014-07-03 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Eddie leans over, grinning broadly. ]

I'm counting.

[ Then he goes back to food prep, totally amused. ]
earlybird: (tiny bruce pose)

[personal profile] earlybird 2014-07-03 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
[ BATGLARE INTENSIFIES ]

Such a dick.

[ The upgrade did come with a few mental changes, it seems; Damian wasn't that free with his swearing before (it's crude language), but this young man grumbles it down at the pan without reservation.

Todd's bad influence echoing through, more than likely. ]

Okay. So, how do you get that--

[ He points at the curry paste, dubious. ]

--to actually become curry?

[ For a boy who spent a good chunk of his childhood traveling throughout the Middle East, Central Asia, and East Asia, the secrets of how to make a good curry are a complete mystery to him. ]
questionslinger: (Exuding Pure Smarm)

[personal profile] questionslinger 2014-07-05 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
The paste is the key. It's loaded with spice and fragrant aromatic vegetables -- onions, garlics-- to give the spices something to cling to. But in my case, I heat it in the pan, I cook everything in it, and it imparts it's delicious flavor to everything.

[ And it's time to get oil heating and vegetables ready to go in and start cooking. Vegetable curry is tasty curry. ]
earlybird: (HMMMMM)

[personal profile] earlybird 2014-07-05 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Sounds easy enough.

[ 1. Put things in pan.
2. Cook things in pan.
3. ???
4. Delicious profit.

(Making the curry paste is the hard part.) ]

I like the kind of cooking where you don't have to stand and watch it so it won't burn.

[ Aka not omelettes. ]
questionslinger: (E. Nygma is an alias)

[personal profile] questionslinger 2014-07-08 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, that's a lot of cooking. Here you'll stir every new and again once we reach a point, but you won't have to hover. It needs to simmer a bit...

[ Because as sauces are mixed, the vegetables need to soak it up and it's delicious flavor! ]

So don't worry about that. This is less 'hover and constantly turn' and more 'work on the rice and then come back to stir.'

[ Which is why he's putting on a pot to boil. ]
