"They didn't want to get back on? Or they didn't try, though I doubt that is true. I never tried but I like it here. Most people don't." She shrugged and twisted around to face her again, balancing carefully on the edge of the roof.

"I don't have a mother, but there aaare some people pretending to be police running around. I think one of them is a king? Or a queen. It's hard to say, really..." Another shrug. "You can stay in one of the rooms above the coffee shop, but they don't have a phone any more than the rest of us do. All we have are these watches and they only call other people who are here."

She plucked her watch out of the pouch on her belt and and hooked the chain around her finger, then spun the little timepiece around her arm.

"You should have one too."
