I know that Phoenix and Edgeworth are canonically pals but expanding on canon thoughts is always fun.

Phoenix would trust Edgeworth with his life. They've had their ups and downs since becoming professional rivals, but Phoenix is confident that Edgeworth has as much of a drive towards the truth as he does. Even though it was with the previous Edgeworth, the confirmation that Edgeworth would continue to believe in his innocence in the events he THOUGHT were coming up in his life along with Maya has helped provide him with a sense of security. He's planning on letting Edgeworth in on the more confidential part of his investigation soon.

...that said, he sometimes wish Edgeworth would lay off a little bit on the ribbing at times.
