February Test Drive!

Thinking of apping a character but not sure they'll fit in the city walls?

Have no fear, a meme for you is here.

Directions:
  • Use an RNG to choose a location and prompt, or wait for someone else to tag.

  • Post with your character with their name and canon on top!

  • If you'd like, leave contact info for people to get in contact for plotting and other such shenans.

  • Tag around! Make friends. Don't be afraid to chat OOC while tagging.

Locations

1.TRAIN STATION - The place where everyone gets dumped off at. Your first view of Ruby City, complete with informational posters telling you all about where you've ended up.
2. THE BEACH - Lovely year-round, though in the winter months, you're probably not likely to dip your toes in.
3. THE BLACK STALLION - A rather quaint bar. Supposedly, the burgers are great, but you don't see anyone immediately who's willing to serve you. Maybe you're meant to get it yourself.
4. THE OBELISK - The tall monolith in the center of the city marks the gathering place of many events, though right now it seems to be cold and dark.
5. THE CLOCKTOWER - Offering an impressive view of the city, several residents come here to clear their heads, if they don't mind braving the narrow staircase.
6. THE COFFEE JOINT - the front windows are warm and welcoming, and it seems there's always someone friendly enough to fix you a cup when you wander through.
7. THE CATACOMBS - Intrepid, aren't you? Those weird holes may beg exploring, but go too deep and you're going to be in a lot of trouble, considering the viciousness of the creatures held within.
8. THE CITY STREETS - All told, Ruby City is a lovely place, once you get past the fact that several of the buildings look derelict and on the verge of falling down. There's no harm in doing a little sightseeing.
9. THE PARK - You thought it'd be a lovely stroll, but the park is anything but friendly, if those approaching wolf-like creatures are any indication.
10. CHOOSE YOUR OWN - Don't like what we've come up with? Feel like picking your own place? There's a whole host of lovely locations to choose from in the City.

Scenarios

1. NEW ARRIVAL - Step off that train, walk down the street. People usually latch on to newcomers to try and help them out. Even if you look shy, the other residents probably won't be!
2. WATCH TALK - Feeling lost? Disoriented? Don't worry, everyone feels that way on their first day. Fortunately - if the signs at the station are to believed - the watch in your pocket can be used to talk to whoever else might be here.
3. BAD WEATHER - Aw, man. Whether it's snow, or rain, or just plain cold, today was definitely the wrong day to get dumped off in a City in the middle of nowhere.
4. A RUN-IN - Maybe you weren't watching. Maybe they weren't. Either way, you just bumped into someone. Perhaps apologies are in order?
5. HELP, IT HURTS - Clumsy, aren't you? Perhaps wherever the train brought you from wasn't so friendly, or you just tripped and twisted your ankle. Either way, you're in a bit of pain. Hopefully someone will notice your booboos and help patch you up.
6. HUNGRY - It isn't very obvious sometimes that restaurants are what they are, especially in a place like Ruby City. Where can a person go to get a bite to eat around here?
7. MISTAKEN IDENTITY - Hey, there's someone you know! --Or maybe not.
8. BEING FOLLOWED - Maybe you're just being paranoid, or maybe you've got a reason to be afraid. Whatever it is, it feels like there's eyes on you...
9. CURRENT EVENTS - None at the moment, but feel free to look through our <href="http://rubycity-ooc.dreamwidth.org/tag/event">event tag!
10. CHOOSE YOUR OWN - Don't like any of these ideas? Feel free to come up with your own!

beach guess who

[personal profile] bythewaves 2015-02-04 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
[ There is one for whom the call of the sea hold more than just home sickness, more than the whisper of the first Song, and even if his family demand of him that he stays with them, he still comes down to the sea. There is a song that floats over (with) the waters, a part of and yet separate to the waves.

There is someone here, who Earendil probably never wanted to see - who, in truth, probably does not want to see him either, and the song comes to an abrupt halt as Maglor recognises the peredhel on the shore. ]

Hail Earendil [ He whispers, so softly, and begins to back up ] Brightest of stars, above this Middle-earth sent unto men

[personal profile] themariner 2015-02-04 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
[ It sounds more like a curse than a benediction coming from the singer. Oh, Earendil knows who he is, has kept watch on those who touched the lives of his children, as a sort of penance over the millennium for not being able to be there in person.

He rises to his feet, light eyes locked on the older man, arms folding themselves loosely across his chest. ]

Hail, Maglor, Mighty in Song. [ Not so mighty in other ways. ] What do you want.
bythewaves: (argue)

[personal profile] bythewaves 2015-02-04 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
[ Maglor pulls in, defensively (he is so, so dangerous, but these days he never acts it, so tired and worn and broken) ]

Nothing, lord. I did not think to find you here... I will go.

[personal profile] themariner 2015-02-04 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
[ That Maglor is dangerous comes as no surprise. Turgon's grandson knows this. The Feanorian is responsible for three different massacres, after all. Including the family of Earendil's wife. ]

Go, then. Far be it from me to keep a son of Feanor from fleeing.
bythewaves: (argue)

[personal profile] bythewaves 2015-02-04 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
[ He does not even react to the insult, only dipping his head in acknowledgement. Quite possibly, Earendil is the only one who knows what happened to Maglor, for, after all, who sees more of Middle-earth than he? ]

Yes lord. I... I like to ... come to the Sea. Will... you mind if I do?

[personal profile] themariner 2015-02-04 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
[ Only the Valar themselves can answer such a question. He refrains from replying right away, turning his head to look at the horizon again. As if all the answers are hiding beyond it. ]

This beach belongs to everyone, from what I understand. You need not my permission to walk across its sands.
curvo: (listen)

[personal profile] curvo 2015-02-04 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
[ Well. That's new. ]

In town, here and there. Why?
curvo: (father)

owww

[personal profile] curvo 2015-02-04 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
[ Curufin has been in town less than one day. Just long enough to learn the basic layout of the city; where the hot spots are, what residents might be counted on to lend a hand, which areas to steer clear of for now. The important things. He has yet to find himself a place to stay, and, frankly, will sleep in a tree if that is deemed necessary.

For now, though, the former prince is content to collect information and people watch. Until the people he's watching transform into those near and dear to him. Which, truthfully, number very few these days. His brothers. His parents. His son.

The drink is abandoned without a second thought, his powerful frame weaving out of the shop before even consciously making the decision. His son, his son, his son is here and oh how that both terrifies and elates Curufin. The Noldor reaches out, unmindful if Celebrimbor even wants to be touched, a palm settling with a surprising amount of tenderness against the smith's shoulder. ]

My son.
bythewaves: (argue)

[personal profile] bythewaves 2015-02-04 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
No. But I... know I am not... welcome company. If it causes undue upset lord, I will leave.
silverfist: (with the devil's voice in my head)

[personal profile] silverfist 2015-02-04 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
[ he flinches at the touch, maimed hand tightening around his cane, expression somewhere between stunned and afraid and ashamed and--beneath all of those--grateful. he'd never agreed with the kinslayings, never agreed with his father's actions, but in the end.. he's still his father. and it had been one of the hardest things in the world, cutting ties with him, with all of that part of his family.

and now here they are, and celebrimbor is.. a shade of himself. he takes a shuddering breath, the sound rattling in his chest. ]

I did not-- Have you.. been here long? [ his voice is a hoarse rasp, as if his throat is flayed. sauron had left little of him uninjured in the end. (he'll certainly never sing again.) ] Your armor..

[personal profile] themariner 2015-02-04 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
No, you are not welcome. [ He turns back to the bard, standing tall and straight as befits the heir of Fingolfin. ] But you know that, Makalaure. You took Elwing's parents from her. Her brothers. Her people. And then you took our sons.

None of that entitles you to play the martyr now. Not with me.
bythewaves: (argue)

[personal profile] bythewaves 2015-02-04 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
[ Responding to the rebuke he pulls himself up a bit, although he still will not meet Earendil's eyes ]

Then what would you have of me instead? I cannot reverse the past. I may not seek forgiveness. If my regret is not enough, then will you have my life instead?
bythewaves: (hand in hand)

[personal profile] bythewaves 2015-02-04 07:53 am (UTC)(link)
I am coming. Tell me where.

[ Nooooooooot answering that on the network because it will end in screaming rage ]

Beach

[personal profile] mortalhalf 2015-02-04 07:59 am (UTC)(link)
[It was somewhat sureal to walk along a beach in a land he'd not heard of before. Elros wanders along the water's edge, steps slow but light as if he were still immortal. As though he'd not made his choice and left his brother, though he'd hoped... It didn't matter so much now. They'd made their choices and both worked to live the best of them.

So why was he here? A figure comes into view just then and he pauses, grey eyes narrowing a little before he keeps walking. The half-elf was curious who it was, but it wasn't until he was much closer that his breath catches in memory. Could it...be?

Would he even be recognized?]

Sebastian Michaelis | Kuroshitsuji

1/8 - 1
Sebastian stepped off the train, paused and glanced over his shoulder with a frown as wind blew black hair into his face. A gloved hand reached up to shove it aside as he watched the locomotive pull out. Odd was one way to put it.

Casting his senses out, he didn't feel Ciel around (though there were plenty of other powers). But he should. The lack had him uneasy, though only a disapproving look around might give that away. The demon butler walked away from where he'd been dropped off, reading the signs with some bemusement as reality set in. Unless this was a trick by those damned Reapers, there was a whole new world to explore.

And yet there was so much to do. Just in case the young Earl showed up to ruin his fun. Contingencies; he needed a base of opperations that would satisfy the boy, and work to support said household.

Kenshin Himura | Ruroni Kenshin

[personal profile] deadly_oro 2015-02-04 09:56 am (UTC)(link)
1 | 1/8.
To say Kenshin arrived in style was... kind. The bedraggled swordsman stumbled off the train, breath coming in gasps and he wrapped one arm around himself, other on the sheathed sword at his side. Simply because he was injured, side gashed open and blood dripping to the ground didn't mean he wouldn't fight if he had to. It didn't mean he couldn't either.

Eyes narrowed and focused, the red-head looked around for anything familiar. Nothing. The signs weren't written how he was accustomed, though he found he had no trouble understanding their meanings once he'd taken a moment to look at them after everything else.

Someone was watching him though, so he picked his way off the station, map of the area ingrained into his mind's eye so he'd hopefully find a place to hole up and recover some of his strength. And get his wounds tended, if he was fortunate.

Wildcard! Have fun with an injured Kenshin, either before he's been fixed up or after.

[ It's probably just as well. Earendil's dislike of the man skirts dangerously close to hate, like it does for the rest of Feanor's sons. True hate currently being reserved for the Dark One and his servants. ]

Yes, I am sure that would bring you some sense of satisfaction. Dying at the hand of another elf. [ Half-elven he may be genetically, but he cast his lot with the eldar long ago. ] Fostering the evil that your father begat the moment he raised his sword against the shipwrights of Alqualonde.

I would have nothing from you. My home is lost, my sons raised by those who slew their own kind, and just thinking about the lengths you went for a gem makes me ill.

[personal profile] themariner 2015-02-04 03:23 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Adjusting to a new environment takes time. The residents of the city probably hopefully don't expect new arrivals to acclimate themselves to everything right away. Eerendil, at least, is taking his sweet time to explore, even though he does eventually end up walking along the sand.

Watching the horizon for a ship he never expects to see again.

But, as captivated by the water as he tends to be, the former lord of Sirion does notice when someone else wanders onto the beach. He lets them be initially, not wishing to intrude on another's personal time. It's just that -- when he does look over -- the stranger looks so much like his wife that ...

... that ...

Most Noldor have dark hair and gray eyes. But most Noldor aren't also descended from Luthien of Doriath, and Earendil has seen her features before, through Elwing. And this stranger? Could almost be a male likeness wrought from his own memories.

Earendil stares in kind, his brain afraid to make that final leap of logic. ]

[Whisps of memory tugged at his thoughts. The rare times with his parents. But this could just be reverie, for all that it didn't feel quite like it.

And remembering those few memories made it impossible to deny. Even if there remained a niggle of doubt, Elros kept walking and watching. Studying the other just as he was studied.

But finally they were within a short enough distance that conversation would be easy. Theoretically speaking. If his throat would just unclog from nerves and his heart would stop beating so quickly.

He stopped then, though. He had to ask, had to speak, and after a minute he managed a fairly steady voice.]

You...would not be EƤrendil. Would you?
in_loveless_memory: (Ah yes?)

Sort of had to

Ritsuka was still at the train station reading all the signs and everything they talked about as he looked at the watch. His tail swished back and forth as he tried to make sense of everything. This seriously was just another thing to add to the line up of "messed up nonsense" he had to deal with at this point. He sighed. Alright, so essentially, this watch was a cellphone just in cellphone shape.

There was really no point in pulling out his own cellphone, he already figured it wouldn't work. His ears perked as there was suddenly a person behind him, probably reading the signs too. He glanced over his shoulders.

"Oh uh... sorry, I can move."

James Norrington | Pirates of the Carribean

Beach:

Slowly Norrington had picked himself off from the ground and tried to wipe away the sand from his uniform. Groggily he tried to piece together what had happened and where he was. One thing for sure was he was indeed a live...How? The last thing he remembered was setting Elizabeth Swan free and stabbing Davy Jones. Peculiar. He supposed now he would have to find answers to where here was...and how he had managed to survive. There had to be someone near by to give him answers.

Warily, Norrington left the shoreline and headed toward the beach. The one thing he did know that he was exhausted and his body ached. He was going to have to attend to his wound some point, but for now he ignored it. He continued to press on, wanting to find some sort of civilization.

Wildcard! Have fun dealing with a confused and injured Admiral.

The admiral may or may not have noticed the amount of birds that twirled around his head and then flapped away, tweeting and whistling as they went while his search from the beach led him into the woods. Of course, the birds were keeping a close eye on anyone who happened nearby the princess.

Aurora looked up from the bushes of berries when they returned.

"Someone is injured?" she asked as they kept twittering. She quickly headed in the direction they told her and her eyes widened at the gentleman.

"Oh my goodness! Are you alright?" she asked as she hurried over to him.

.....Norrington eyed the birds warily. If he didn't know any better he would think they were following him. That was a ridiculous thought to have and one he couldn't have had back at home...but after what he's witnessed of late he wouldn't just shrug it off. He followed them as they led to a young woman that seemed to be gathering berries. They seemed to be talking to her as well. He must have hit his head pretty hard to be imagining this. This was like some sort of fairy tale.

The admiral shook his head and decided to at least approach the woman as she just turned to notice him. He frowned a bit as he studied the birds and then glanced at her.

"Pardon me...I apologize for disturbing you..." Norrington replied as he gave a brief bow to her. He winced a bit, realizing it was a little too late that he shouldn't have tried to bow. "Perhaps you could point me to the nearest clinic?"

She did ask if he was alright...this conversation was just going smoothly. He always had an awkward time talking with women.
cursedtosleep: (I feel uneasy)

[personal profile] cursedtosleep 2015-02-04 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
He was asking for help, she hurried over to him and gazed up at the admiral, her brow knitted in concern.

"You are injured..." it wasn't a question. "It's alright, you weren't disturbing me. Yes, please, come this way, I can take you there right away." It would still take some time to get there, however.

"But... just a moment, have a seat please," she offered as she went to go get some leaves and herbs to help with the pain. "I'm afraid we're still a ways from the city. We'll have to tend to your wound with what we can."

"Thank you, ma'am. I appreciate your help and hopefully I can return the favor. "Norrington responded.

Obediently he did was told. It surprised him to learn that he was pretty far from the actual city. It made him grateful that he did find the young woman along the way. Blushing slightly, he shrugged off his jacket and various layers of clothing underneath it. He didn't dare look to see how big of a wound the sword had left.
