February Test Drive!

Thinking of apping a character but not sure they'll fit in the city walls?

Have no fear, a meme for you is here.

Directions:
  • Use an RNG to choose a location and prompt, or wait for someone else to tag.

  • Post with your character with their name and canon on top!

  • If you'd like, leave contact info for people to get in contact for plotting and other such shenans.

  • Tag around! Make friends. Don't be afraid to chat OOC while tagging.

Locations

1.TRAIN STATION - The place where everyone gets dumped off at. Your first view of Ruby City, complete with informational posters telling you all about where you've ended up.
2. THE BEACH - Lovely year-round, though in the winter months, you're probably not likely to dip your toes in.
3. THE BLACK STALLION - A rather quaint bar. Supposedly, the burgers are great, but you don't see anyone immediately who's willing to serve you. Maybe you're meant to get it yourself.
4. THE OBELISK - The tall monolith in the center of the city marks the gathering place of many events, though right now it seems to be cold and dark.
5. THE CLOCKTOWER - Offering an impressive view of the city, several residents come here to clear their heads, if they don't mind braving the narrow staircase.
6. THE COFFEE JOINT - the front windows are warm and welcoming, and it seems there's always someone friendly enough to fix you a cup when you wander through.
7. THE CATACOMBS - Intrepid, aren't you? Those weird holes may beg exploring, but go too deep and you're going to be in a lot of trouble, considering the viciousness of the creatures held within.
8. THE CITY STREETS - All told, Ruby City is a lovely place, once you get past the fact that several of the buildings look derelict and on the verge of falling down. There's no harm in doing a little sightseeing.
9. THE PARK - You thought it'd be a lovely stroll, but the park is anything but friendly, if those approaching wolf-like creatures are any indication.
10. CHOOSE YOUR OWN - Don't like what we've come up with? Feel like picking your own place? There's a whole host of lovely locations to choose from in the City.

Scenarios

1. NEW ARRIVAL - Step off that train, walk down the street. People usually latch on to newcomers to try and help them out. Even if you look shy, the other residents probably won't be!
2. WATCH TALK - Feeling lost? Disoriented? Don't worry, everyone feels that way on their first day. Fortunately - if the signs at the station are to believed - the watch in your pocket can be used to talk to whoever else might be here.
3. BAD WEATHER - Aw, man. Whether it's snow, or rain, or just plain cold, today was definitely the wrong day to get dumped off in a City in the middle of nowhere.
4. A RUN-IN - Maybe you weren't watching. Maybe they weren't. Either way, you just bumped into someone. Perhaps apologies are in order?
5. HELP, IT HURTS - Clumsy, aren't you? Perhaps wherever the train brought you from wasn't so friendly, or you just tripped and twisted your ankle. Either way, you're in a bit of pain. Hopefully someone will notice your booboos and help patch you up.
6. HUNGRY - It isn't very obvious sometimes that restaurants are what they are, especially in a place like Ruby City. Where can a person go to get a bite to eat around here?
7. MISTAKEN IDENTITY - Hey, there's someone you know! --Or maybe not.
8. BEING FOLLOWED - Maybe you're just being paranoid, or maybe you've got a reason to be afraid. Whatever it is, it feels like there's eyes on you...
9. CURRENT EVENTS - None at the moment, but feel free to look through our <href="http://rubycity-ooc.dreamwidth.org/tag/event">event tag!
10. CHOOSE YOUR OWN - Don't like any of these ideas? Feel free to come up with your own!

5-6

Kaylin loved flying, falling, however, she was not so fond of. The stairs didn't bother her, but she had been hesitant to climb. Some cruel trick of nature denied her wings.

She had been looking around, trying to get her bearings when she heard someone else talking. She drew a dagger, silently, thanking the enchantment, and the enchanter, that it made no noise. One of the few bits of magic that didn't set her teeth on edge. Then again, his never did. Elemental seemed to be different. Before she could respond, however, or decide what else to do, she heard the other person's stomach rumbling. Embarrassingly, hers replied in kind.

The dragon around her shoulders took that as an invitation to chew on her hair.

Perfect.

She had been fairly distracted by the view... as well as her rumbling tummy, at least at first. So she hadn't realized anyone was approaching, but as she heard the tummy growl echoed her own she blinked behind black frame glasses and looked down at her own stomach. "Seriously?" She said to it, paused, then glanced back, peeking back to see that there was a figure there.

Someone else was there. She drew back from the window, turning her back to it and tilting her head "Hello..." A human and a dragon? Is that what she was seeing?

She sighed and sheathed her dagger, stepping forward, the hawk on her tabard glinting in the dim light. "Hello," she said.

She bopped the small creature on the nose, then pulled her stick out of her hair, and twisted it up again. Sloppily.

Okay. So thanks to Loki and his company, things like swords and daggers and strange costumes wasn't NEW to her, but she's pretty sure she hasn't seen a dragon before. And it was there, not and illusion. An actual honest to goodness dragon. One that just got nose booped for chewing on hair.

Her brows raised, still surprised by the dragon on the woman's shoulder, but she tried to be polite. "That's a dragon." Or, well, polite for Verity, in the fact that she just pointed out that there was a winged lizard on the woman's shoulder.

Kaylin's face was an open book, and the "THANK YOU, FINALLY SOMEONE GETS IT!" that she didn't actually said could be read there, easily.

What she DID say however, was "It is apparently impolite to call the familiar a dragon." she rolled her eyes. "It annoys the dragons." But if Bellusdeo snarled at her one more time, she could find her own d**** place, and Kaylin could move into a new apartment.
braveheartverity: (almost smug)

That look was a bit surprising. She figured once she said it the woman would give her the 'No Doh' look or something. At least it was a refreshing surprise. "Oh. Gotcha. Though I would think Shoulder Lizard would be worse."

She watched the woman curiously, sliding her hands into her back pockets and tilting her head. She is a human lie detector, so anything that is said that comes off wrong, she would notice. So far it's just a woman and a dragon. How curious. "Sorry, don't mean to annoy the not-dragon."

[personal profile] kaylinneya 2015-02-26 06:02 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, I'm not sure you could annoy THIS thing. It's the actual dragons you very much don't want to tick off," she said.

The thing with Kaylin is that she's such a bad liar ANYONE can tell when she tries, and she knows this, so she usually doesn't bother. It's why she's usually not allowed to deal with the rich and powerful humans.
braveheartverity: (longing for distance)

[personal profile] braveheartverity 2015-02-26 06:11 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, so it was just a shoulder lizard. Interesting. "I see." She said carefully, watching the woman and the dragon. Was this their area? had she intruded? Doubtful. But she asked anyhow. "Is this your clock tower, or are you two just coming up for the view as well?"

"Trying to figure out this new city. Counting people." she was trained in counting moving objects, moving people, tracking patterns. I just arrived here on the weirdest coach."

She hesitated, glancing out again, then muttered in a guttural language. "And I thought Elantra was diverse..."
braveheartverity: (proud to be)

[personal profile] braveheartverity 2015-02-27 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Her brow raised at that. She too was trying to figure out this city, but more about it in general. Like where it was, or might have been, or what was around. Not... counting people.

"I arrived not long ago as well." And since things are translated here, she understood clearly what was said. "Is that where you are from?" Elantra? What an interesting sounding name.

She hesitated, then nodded. No point in a lie, and even if there was... she was really really bad at lying and she knew it. She she hardly bothered. "Yeah. Port city, under the Eternal Emperor."

She swore violently in three languages, some of it was quite inventive, though possibly not.. well... possible. Most of it was a rant against magic in general. No matter where she was... she was too bright to swear like that about the Emperor. Getting killed by a Dragon you ticked off wasn't considered murder.. it was considered suicide.
