Well for one, it wastes power, which does cost money, muggle or otherwise. Second, I'm a little more concerned about appliances like the oven, which could start a fire potentially.

It doesn't cost money here, I fail to see the point.

I meant it more as because it costs money at home, I'm in the habit of turning them off. It's less of a concern here though, you're right.

Don't worry, it's not like an open flame, you'd have to leave one on unattended for a while for it to catch fire, and it's often what's left inside the oven that catches fire, not the oven itself.

Are you trying to reassure me, Evans? Because if that is your idea of making me feel less paranoid about burning to death in my sleep then you're making a right mess out of it!

Of course not, but a candle can be trusted and understood! There is no rhyme or reason to the functions of these ridiculous Muggle appliances. They are... distasteful.

That's okay, you didn't grow up with it so naturally it's going to be unfamiliar and even a little disconcerting. But instead of shutting down, let the people who do know about it teach you. Jane could show you how to work some muggle items, I know you trust her.

It's not a bad idea, Evans. [He was grudging about it, but really, there was no denying it.] I believe Jane would be delighted to explain the technology of her world to me. It always makes her happy when I'm eager to learn Muggle science, or about the scientific instruments she uses at home.
