[Bae is walking around the city, unsure of his new surroundings. Was this the new land without magic? It must be as it was very different to home. He tried to take everything in as he wished his papa was here.]

screams oh my god hi

[seamistress]

[She just had to pick up the watch now. She had to pick it up right that instant and see a sight she hadn't seen in years. She stares, stiff and frozen, looking into a stream. And, for the longest time, her mind is just blank. She can't bring herself to say a word.
Not him. Please.
Please don't trap him here too.]

um hi...mom?

[hisinnerlight]

[Bae's watch is still in his hand, he's too busy checking out the city to notice the woman on the screen. The scene drifts around showing exactly where Bae was walking. From the train station to the shops in the centre. Is there even anyone else here?]

[She tries to say something, but she can't. She can't bring herself to talk to him and risk him recognizing her, or...she just can't.
After some momentary failed attempts to speak, she makes sure to turn off her video stream, quickly followed by the sound option. She figures out she can talk to him through text. Yeah should do it.]

Hello. Are you there?

[His watch buzzed and confused, he looked at it, moving towards the side of a building out of the way. He read the text but it took him a while to figure out how to respond.]

Hello. My name is Baelfire. Do you know where I am?

[seamistress]

[She sucks in a breath.]

You're in Ruby City.

[hisinnerlight]

[Ruby City. That sounded promising.]

Does this land have magic?

[seamistress]

[She takes a moment before each time she types.]

I've not been here for long. I can't tell for sure.

[hisinnerlight]

[It's a long time before Bae replies. Partly because the watch was very new to him and partly because he didn't know what to say to whoever he was speaking to.]

Can you tell me what other people live here?

[seamistress]

A lot of people from a lot of different worlds. I've yet to meet them all.
Some of them aren't human.

[hisinnerlight]

This world connects to many others. [It was supposed to be a question but poor Bae couldn't find how to do that in text.]

[seamistress]

People are taken from their worlds and dropped here by magic. I don't know who's responsible.

[hisinnerlight]

[Bae thinks he knows someone who could do that, though he hopes he wouldn't go that far.]

I used a magic bean.

[seamistress]

[ He used a what?]

A magic bean?

...well this is going to hurt

[Gold can't believe it.

He knows this is how the city works. He's seen people he knew that hadn't yet met him, and he knew the ability this place had to bring in people from anywhere. And anytime. He had even wondered if it would pull Bae from wherever he was...

But he never thought it would be this Bae.]

... Bae? [His voice is tiny and cracked, almost only a whisper, and he doesn't dare to take one step closer.]

...yeah...

[hisinnerlight]

[Bae knew that voice and he looked around for it. It wasn't long before he saw the source of it. He didn't think it was possible, surely he came through alone. He was certainly on the train alone. But the voice...He also didn't take a step forward but spoke one word in return.]

Papa?

[fairdeal]

[Gold couldn't help the small whimper crawling up his throat. He wasn't planning on stepping closer, but he felt his knees weaken, and it caused him to step closer.]

My boy... [He took another step, incredulous, hand reaching out for Bae as if still trying to tell if he was real or just a figment of his imagination. His voice sounded more like a cry or a plea than a statement by now.] My boy, you're here...

[hisinnerlight]

[He looked so different to when he last saw him. He looked so much more like his father that he thought the bean had worked. It had pulled them both into this land together and he had lost his magic. With that happy thought in mind, he moved closer to Gold and hugged him.]

Papa! You came. I didn't think you would.

[fairdeal]

I'm... [He couldn't think the words. All he knew is his son was here, whatever time he might be from, and he was hugging him and loving him and not calling him a coward.

He let himself fall on his knees, cane forgotten on the floor as he wrapped both his arms around his son, tightly, just in case he would disappear into thin air. He rested his forehead on Bae's shoulder and cried softly.]

[hisinnerlight]

[Bae hugged him back, just as tightly. He didn't realise how much time had passed and was surprised to see his father crying.]

It's okay, Papa. We're here together now. It'll be like it was.

[He smiled, his happiness radiating in his ignorance.]

I'm so sorry... [In the midst of crying and his heart almost leaping out of his chest, he noticed, but he ignored, that Bae wrongly thought they had come through together to a land without magic; that The Dark One was no more, and that he himself had abandoned magic and returned to his old self.]

I'm so sorry, Bae... [He wanted to reassure him. He wanted to tell him that this was what had happened. But he couldn't muster the words, or the courage to lie to his own long lost son. He exhaled before he pulled away, resting a hand against the side of Bae's face as he shook his head with a desperate frown.] But this is not a land without magic.

[hisinnerlight]

[His smile faded slightly as he heard the words, confused as what they could mean.] I don't understand, Papa. You are yourself again.

If this is not the land, where are we?

[fairdeal]

[He chose to skip on the first remark, and answered the other question.]

This place... it's called Ruby City. For now it seems we can't leave.

[hisinnerlight]

But we are together. And that is what matters to me, Papa.

[He smiled again, his hope continuing to grow inside him. This may not be the place he envisioned. But he is with his father and things will be different. Hopefully for the better.]

Yes. [Gold wouldn't argue with that. He clung to his son tightly, knowing he would never let him go now.

If he needed a reason not to want to go back, this was it.] Yes, my son. That is all that matters to me too.
