[ Her eyes widen in surprise once he turns, but the look is quickly replaced with a frown once she receives her answer. Something about the way she holds herself behind the pillar makes her seem almost uneasy once he steps in her general direction, but otherwise she makes no move to run, nor to hide. ]

I don't. [ She's too quiet, too honest about her answer. Her tone is, essentially, that of a confused young woman. ]

I just want to go home.

[what strange eyes.

she brushes his shoulder with the tips of her fingers, crouching right across him as she does so. it's not bold, perhaps that might catch his attention--or did he lower his head for a reason? deference, maybe? but, he didn't look well...

she places her hands on the ground and bends her elbows, lowering herself to catch sight of the side of his face.]

[ Unfortunately he would have startled her either way.
She jumps once, when he greets her, then once more when he trips. ]

Are you alright?
[ She takes one, two, three steps in his direction but stops at a respectable distance, shifting her weight from one foot to the other. Her tone is very quiet. ]

[He almost chuckled as the thought crossed her mind. Even among Gracelings were his eyes strange, colored like the Po trees in autumn.]

I apologize, my lady. Most people avoid my gaze and so I would not force it on you.

[His only possible excuse for looking away, besides the sick feeling that fills him after the train ride and trying to use his Grace to find his way. Especially with a world so foreign around him.]

[all huff and puff, dido finds herself touching his face in an attempt to tip it upwards. the avoidance certainly makes her feel anxious.

besides, she can't exactly answer if he can't see her! although... hm. ]

[It had been good enough to hold the Holy Grail War, at least.]

[He frowns. Why is she so stubborn? He'd only ever known Katsa and Bitterblue to be so stubborn. Everyone else was glad when the Graceling prince avoided their eyes.]

Please. Don't.

[He's not used to asking something like this. He hates it. So as she lifts his chin, he lets his eyes fall shut. Attempting to act as though he feels ill, which isn't a lie, but most people do that when they're about to be sick. He's not that close. Yet.]

[That meant he didn't have anything to fear from this guy, right? There would be no reason for a Servant to kill a Master that wasn't even from the same War as him. Which meant...]

...And look— Don't tell me what to do, got it?! I've been cracking for data just as "dangerous" for more than a year—maybe close to two by now. I haven't gotten in trouble for it yet, so just mind your own beeswax already.

It's not hacking the data or finding out about the Grail War that's the problem. It's the Grail War itself. If you get caught up in it, there's a big likelihood you'll die.

[Some Masters and Servants had qualms about killing kids. Others...didn't.]

So even if it still exists in your time? Don't go seeking it out.

Shows what you know. The Holy Grail War is just some video game inside the Moon Cell. It's not like people can really die there. I'll admit, I was scared for a minute, but in the end it was just a big fake out. All I have to do is find away to hack out of this place and I'll be able to go home like nothing ever happened.

[He says this with the utmost confidence. It's a little sad.]

The Holy Grail War really changed then. Mine is being fought in the real world and yes, people die there.

[He shakes his head.]

This place brought me in too. It's not just some computer simulation. More like actual magic.

Good. [He runs a hand through her hair, then cups her cheek, looking at her in the eye.] He is not to be trusted. You must stay away from him.

You can call me Mr, Gold. [He bows his head curtly.]

What can you tell me about Ruby City, Mr. Potter?

[ She ponders his statement briefly and finds a question worth asking: ] Would you say you're a travelled man?

[ Lorelei shuffles a bit before she finally steps away from the pillar, holding a paper in her hand; undoubtedly one of the pamphlets they could find scattered about the statement. She makes a point of holding it out for him, should he want to read it, but maintaining her arm outstretched as if to maintain a distance. An odd gesture, indeed, but not intended as disrespectful. ]

... Lorelei.

[James inclined his head at the name.]

Just James is fine. As for this place, well...it's home now.

[There's a pause before he starts his mantra in a bored voice. It's obvious he's done this a million times previously.]

Ruby City. You've been brought here against your will and you can't go home. Feel free to live in any of the unused apartments or houses you find. There's a clinic, a bar and many other shops for your needs and everything is free. I own a coffee shop and bar myself with spare rooms should you need them.

[He stops, done for now, and sets his broom to hover so he can sit down upon it. Smiling, James' voice goes back to it's initial cheeriness.] Any questions, just ask.

But.. Why? [ But Belle knows why and it prompts her to shake her head almost as if she were discarding the question. ] He's not dangerous. [ Well, he most certainly could be. ] We've been getting along lately. We- we've shared the same house for a couple of weeks and...

[ A frown. Alright, maybe this is going a little too far in proving her point. ]

[He stopped a couple of feet from her.]

[And a little bow and a flick of the wrist.]

[He turns suddenly, looking at her. It takes him a few seconds before he can finally move and rush towards her.]

[He wraps his arms around her and holds her tight. His mind has yet to figure out and remember all that happened. All he knows right now is that he doesn't want to let go.]

Can you hear me? [her hand moves from his chin to the side of his face, for no particular reason other than for her own comfort. she scrunches her eyes shut; it's rare for people to hear her correctly, but it's worth a shot, even if she'd rather have Abebi talk for her.] Are you sick?

[ooc: i unlocked this post to explain how her powers work, so it's up to you if he hears her normal voice or if she hears something inhuman. or, you know, nothing at all.]

[Is she Graced? Or are people here normally so gifted? He can't know for sure, can't see her eyes.]

[Water? Oh, that sounded wonderful. It had been days since he'd eaten or drank anything, the prince being to stubborn and full of self-pity to drag himself to the lake or the fish trap Katsa had made him.]

I would, yes. I don't wish to be a bother though.

[A smile appears as he hears James' explanation, and he waits for him to finish before speaking.] I see I am not the first newcomer you've come across.
