No way, kiddo. None of the people that live here are from here. We've all grabbed from our homes and taken here without permission. You might see some of your friends from home, and you might not. I really don't know much about how it works beyond that, and I'm a really smart guy.

[One could even say he's nigh-omnipotent - at least, he was before he came here.]

[Gabriel hates lying to little kids, but he can't find it in him to tell her that the only way you can go home is if the city sends you home.

I like green tea and coconut. Or kasutera with just a little bit of caramel. I like making sweet potato cakes, but I don't really care whether or not people save any for me. And fruit's all right if it's got the real stuff in and not just flavoring.

[His answer is gravel-voiced, still fairly quiet. He arches an eyebrow and settles into his seat, waiting.]
