I don't really have a fitting picture for this.

G'day, Ruby City! It's time for a meme for both testdrivers and denizens.

Been itching to test out some CR but haven't had the posts to do it? Thinking of apping a character but not sure they'll fit in the city walls?

Have no fear, a meme for you is here.

Directions:

• Post with your character with their name and canon on top!

1. Train Station: New arrival, or waiting to welcome people? Either way, the train comes in, but you still can't ride it out.


2. Cathedral: Looking for redemption? Just doing a little sight-seeing? Or just getting a little shelter?


3. The Clocktower: You can see the whole city from here!


4. The Black Stallion Saloon: You were told the burgers were great here-- but maybe you just came for the beer.


5. The Library: You came to do a little research, but it looks like all of the information's just out of your reach. Though, you can always find a way to pass the time here.


6. The Coffee Joint: Run by James Potter and Lukas, a lovely place to have a chat and a bite to eat.


7. Le Cafe Anglais: A Parisian-British fusion that's as charming as it sounds and serves the best tea around.

Scenarios

1. Just walked in: You intended to get here, and you made your way in; but now someone's caught your eye and you'd like to have a chat.


2. Been here all day: You've been sitting around minding the time. Maybe you didn't notice them at first or maybe you were just working up the courage to talk-- either way, they know you're here and you know it too.


3. Inclimate weather: You're here because you've gotten rained in. This wasn't your choice, but at least it's dry-- right?


4. Wild card: Got something better in mind? Well screw these prompts, try it out yourself!

Alright.

[She returns to reading.]

...Wait, this says they were arguing over whether or not to keep the slaves. If the slaves disliked this so much, why did they not rebel and create their own country?

Some did. There was an island down in the Caribbean called Haiti where the slaves revolted to create their own country. And I'm pretty sure there were uprisings in the US too?

[ Jason rubbed his forehead, the large fuzzy blank in his head giving him a headache. ]

I...don't think they went anywhere though. Not enough numbers, I guess.

And yet it says here that the slaves were a large proportion of the population in the South? Why were there not enough who would revolt? Did they not have good leaders?

[ The gap in his head was growing larger. There were politics involved, right? Shit. This is why you stay in school, kids. ]

Sorry kid, I'm drawing a blank. If you keep reading, they might give you an answer. Books are good at that.

[ Except when you want answers about Ruby City. ]

[She returns to her reading. And after a while she has another question.]

Jay, why does President Lincoln not lead his own troops into battle? It would save him the effort of fretting over his commanders.

Combat wasn't really his thing. He was a lawyer, I think; they don't teach you how to organize troops in law school.

[ Jason gave her an appraising look. ]

You sure like to ask questions, don't you?

[She stiffens.]

You yourself offered to answer any that I had.

[Otherwise, she wouldn't have risked humiliating herself by asking.

[ Jason could sense this was about to get messy. He held his hands up in a peaceful gesture. ]

Hey now, calm down. I didn't say it was a bad thing.

[And just like that, she relaxes again.]

It is the first time that I have ever encountered a history of this sort. What with democracy and people fighting on behalf of slaves.

[She flips a page of the book.]

If only Abraham Lincoln met Jefferson Davis in an honorable duel, then war could have been averted. The only blood shed would have been their own.

[She looks down at the book again.]

For all he speaks of honor, Davis never called to Lincoln to cross blades with him. Why is that?

Well. He must not have actually been all that honorable.

[ Jason leaned forward, planting both his feet on his ground as he reached for another book. He avoided looking at the girl. ]

People saw a lot of things they don't mean. It's human nature.

[Her tone is one of grim acceptance. She has seen the result of "honor" too many times.]

That part never changes.

It never does.

[ Jason opened his new book before immediately shutting it again and sighing, resting his forehead against the text. Maybe he'd gain information through osmosis. ]

Alright. Any notes about Ruby City in that book?

[penisenvy]

No. Only about a civil war in America.

[waywardbird]

[ He lowered his book, giving it a glare underneath his mask. ]

Alright. We need to stop for the night; we're getting nowhere. Plus, we're running out of books, I'll need to grab more.

[penisenvy]

[She nods.]

And none of the others that you have flipped through contain anything useful? Not even the slightest hint?

[waywardbird]

Nothing. [ And he knew how to read between the lines, too. ]

Something tells me this isn't going to be a walk in the park.

[ Not that he'd ever had a pleasant walk in the park (Hello Pamela, nice to see you too, you're looking very green today, did you do something new with your hair-?) but still. ]
