G'day, Ruby City! It's time for a meme for both testdrivers and denizens.

Been itching to test out some CR but haven't had the posts to do it? Thinking of apping a character but not sure they'll fit in the city walls?

Have no fear, a meme for you is here.

Directions:

• Post with your character with their name and canon on top!

1. Train Station: New arrival, or waiting to welcome people? Either way, the train comes in, but you still can't ride it out.


2. Cathedral: Looking for redemption? Just doing a little sight-seeing? Or just getting a little shelter?


3. The Clocktower: You can see the whole city from here!


4. The Black Stallion Saloon: You were told the burgers were great here-- but maybe you just came for the beer.


5. The Library: You came to do a little research, but it looks like all of the information's just out of your reach. Though, you can always find a way to pass the time here.


6. The Coffee Joint: Run by Lukas, a lovely place to have a chat and a bite to eat.


7. Le Cafe Anglais: A Parisian-British fusion that's as charming as it sounds and serves the best tea around.

Scenarios

1. Just walked in: You intended to get here, and you made your way in; but now someone's caught your eye and you'd like to have a chat.


2. Been here all day: You've been sitting around minding the time. Maybe you didn't notice them at first or maybe you were just working up the courage to talk-- either way, they know you're here and you know it too.


3. Inclement weather: You're here because you've gotten rained in. This wasn't your choice, but at least it's dry-- right?

[Scenario 1-1: Fresh Off The Boat Train

Of course, being on the train in the first place was a bit jarring, especially when the scenery abruptly changed from the Washington wilderness to... whatever the hell this place was. There's no need for the supernatural prompt for York to get off of the platform, though, he's naturally curious enough as it is.]

Well... seems like we've stepped back in time, Zach. Where do you suppose we are?

[Scenario 4-2: Something Familiar

If there's a coffeehouse, then there's coffee. And if there's coffee, most likely there's York. After taking a few moments to wander around the streets and such, he's found a table for himself and occupied it, drinking cup after cup, collecting his thoughts. Maybe he needs to be jarred out of them, though.]

[Norman takes stock of the man in the suit as he steps off the train and takes care in approaching, his gait casual and non threatening.]

You're in Ruby City. You're sort of right - for some people, it's the past. For others, it's the future.

Norman Jayden. And you are?

[callmeyork]

[Huh. Well. Another man in a suit. This could be a good sign; at least he wasn't alone in his post-dated fashion sense. York quickly digs into his inner breast pocket and flips out his FBI badge.]

FBI Special Agent Francis York Morgan. Please, call me York. That's what everyone calls me. [And then he pockets it again.]

So I take it you've been similarly... displaced?

[Norman watches the practiced motion of the man reaching into his suit jacket - a gesture he knows himself, and yep, glory hallelujah, but that badge is a sight for sore eyes. Immediately his expression brightens a little and he goes for his own badge, presenting it in much the same fashion.]

It's a pleasure, Agent York. Usually I don't bother with the badge around here - hardly enough people from earth, let alone the states, for it to matter to most.

[He slips his badge back in his jacket.]

It's been a while since I've seen a fellow agent.

[Well, that's reassuring. At least he wasn't alone from the bureau... though Norman was unknown to him. Oh well, it's more that second comment that's more disconcerting.]

Same here, Agent Jayden. I figure it's a formality, and a habit besides that.

How long? I've, ah... got a case to get back to in Washington.

[percapitaasskickings]

[That's nothing too weird - the Bureau had thousands of employees, after all, and at least hundreds of agents across its many branches. He hadn't heard of York, either, but then he was far from knowing every agent on the force. Norman sighs and rubs the back of his neck.]

I've been here going on about seven months now. How long or short you stay seems to be entirely random.

From what I've heard, though, no matter how long you're here, when you go back it's like no time passed at all. I was pulled here in the middle of an investigation too- in Philadelphia.

[That's better to hear. Norman, please don't mind York as he turns away, pressing 2 fingers to his temple, and talking to... nobody in particular.]

You hear that Zach? It's like no time passes... I suppose we could consider this a kind of vacation, then.

[And with that, he turns back like nothing happened.]

Do you know if there's a good coffee place around here? I could use a pick-me-up.

[Norman has spent more than enough time muttering into ARI and getting weird looks from strangers to comment on York's odd aside. He'll just obligingly pretend he didn't hear anything.]

Actually, there is. I've spent enough time there myself to attest that it's one'a the best cups of coffee I've had. Best one you'll find short of making it yourself.

I'd hope so; I can make a mean cup of coffee. And I'll have you know, I'm very picky about my coffee. Do you think you could show me the way?

[Let's face it that would be pretty hypocritical of Norman to judge York for that.]

Not at all. I can fill you in on more about the city on the way.

[Yeah, probably. While they walk, York's going to take the opportunity to actually examine the architecture and the surroundings.]

Sounds like a plan. So, where's this place located?

[The architecture is a little old, but solid enough. Norman starts walking in the direction of the coffeeshop.]

Not in any country or on any map I've heard of. The only way in is by train, and...there's no actual way out. As far as we've been able to tell, it's sort of...a way-point between worlds. There are people here from places that are fictional to us.

Fictional. So it's sort of a... oh, what's the word, Zach? A nexus of sorts?

Hmm... sounds farfetched, but the evidence is fairly clear. Wonder if I'll end up meeting some movie stars, then.

[This guy is drinking more than Remus does the night before the full moon. Of course, he knows he's not a wolf - even Remus can sense that - but it's enough to have him offering a faint but friendly smile, and a quiet comment.]

Penny for your thoughts?

[Oh, oops. At least he wasn't mumbling out loud this time. York gives Remus a quiet smile, pulling the last from his current cup of joe.]

Probably going to cost a bit more than that, but I suppose first and foremost is trying to recollect myself after being fresh off the boat, so to speak.

[Sorry, York, he doesn't tend to carry much Muggle money around with him as a rule, never mind in dimension that doesn't demand currency.]

I understand. It's.. unsettling. I've been here a while now, so if I can offer any help, let me know.

Help? Well, besides a map, I think just knowing people may be a good idea. Never hurts to make connections in an unfamiliar place, right?

I was lucky enough to already have people that I knew here when I arrived. The same can't be said for you, I take it.

[Nope, especially not when there's more than thoughts going around in his head.]

Unfortunately not. But I'm used to coming into new places and... well, not blending in, but getting to know the locals.

[That gets a quick, faint smile. He can understand the sentiment.]

Have you found anything of interest so far?

Oh, absolutely. The varied population, the out-of-place architecture, the mysterious train and station... but I think the most interesting thing so far is this coffeehouse. Some of the best coffee I've had in a long, long time.

[And to punctuate that statement, he finishes off his current cup with a content sigh.]
