G'day, Ruby City! It's time for a meme for both testdrivers and denizens.

Been itching to test out some CR but haven't had the posts to do it? Thinking of apping a character but not sure they'll fit in the city walls?

Have no fear, a meme for you is here.

The Library: You came to do a little research, but it looks like all of the information's just out of your reach. Though, you can always find a way to pass the time here.

Le Cafe Anglais: A Parisian-British fusion that's as charming as it sounds and serves the best tea around.

Just walked in: You intended to get here, and you made your way in; but now someone's caught your eye and you'd like to have a chat.

Been here all day: You've been sitting around minding the time. Maybe you didn't notice them at first or maybe you were just working up the courage to talk-- either way, they know you're here and you know it too.

Inclement weather: You're here because you've gotten rained in. This wasn't your choice, but at least it's dry-- right?

[Machi didn't plan this very well--in retrospect, he was too startled by a familiar face to think about his own shortcomings, but there's no time to spend apologising. He hesitates just a moment, then grabs her wrist and drags her towards the wall, where these posters are hung.]

[Sorry, Trucy. His English hasn't actually improved very much.]

[ Poor Machi. She lets him drag her, though, and immediately her eyes dart to the posters; her eyes scan for the one in English, and... oh, there it is.

She squints slightly as she reads, and after a few moments she finally looks back to Machi. ]

This place... is called Ruby City... but how?

[ She digs around in the little heart shaped purse at her side, pulling out the mentioned watch. ]

D-did you get one of these, too, then?

[ ...Well, she's really hoping he's understanding her enough. She holds the watch up for him to inspect. ]

[No worries, Trucy; though it's not apparent when talking to some people, Ruby City removes most all language barriers between its occupants. Machi could have used Borginian, but insecurity and strategy go hand in hand here.

In short, he's still kind of a little shit.

In response to her first question, he raises a hand and clutches the front of his shirt briefly before offering an exaggerated shrug.

He does have a watch, though, and digs around in his pockets until he pulls his out, showing it to her.]

Yes. I get.

[He turns his around and opens it up with swift, nervous fingers, then shows it to her.]

Open, can talk in. Like... like... uh.

[... crap. He fumbles for the word. ]

...fun?

[...he tried.]

Oh, good! And yes, that's right. You can talk into it! But I think you mean phone, right?

[ She grins slightly, because at the very least she knows what he's trying to say. It's probably a good thing she doesn't realize the whole language barrier being lifted thing yet, too. Give it time, though... she'll realize eventually. ]

The poster said we're supposed to use these for communication purposes. To talk to other people, and that's great and all, but what if we want to talk to the people who are in charge? That's who I want to talk to, at least... they'd have the answer as to why we were brought here!

[....whatever. He was close.]

Uhh... no. No talk. Cannot... they cannot be talk to. Not with phone.

[He hesitates. Then, anxiously:]

Trucy?

[ She turns her attention back to the poster, studying it carefully. She only pauses when she hears her name, and she quickly looks back over her shoulder at him, flashing him another smile. ]

Hm? What is it, Machi?

[Machi knows this is an inappropriate time, but he has a hard time caring--anyway, he doesn't know Trucy all that well, so it's not like it'll be a huge loss.]

How is being... where you from?

[Machi speaking English: the ongoing comedy.]

[ It's hardly inappropriate. She finds it endearing, actually; and besides, it's a nice distraction from the slight panic that's trying to bubble up within her.

It does take her a few seconds to piece together what he's said, though, but when it clicks her smile widens. ]

Really great, actually! Poll-- Apollo has decided to stay with our office, and things seem to be getting better day by day. How are things on your end?

[...oh, you know. He's been in jail for the past eight months, Lamiroir has more or less not spoken to him, he can't go back to the country where everyone speaks his language.

Also, you know, some kidnapping nightmare city.

But he's not dead and everything in Ruby City is free.

So besides the Lamiroir thing, it about cuts even.

None of this comes out of his mouth, though.]

...stay?

[Oh, for--]

No--not asking Apollo. Lamiroir!

Mm'hmm! He's decided to stay with the Wright Anything Agency--

[ Whoops. She looks embarrassed for a brief moment when he mentions Lamiroir. Of course he'd want to know about her. Unfortunately, she's not exactly completely up to date with the woman. ]

Oh! Well, the last we heard she seemed to be doing extremely well. But we haven't actually seen her...

[Machi is simultaneously very disappointed and fairly well relieved. Some of the tension visibly dissipates from his posture--or is that the disappointment showing?--but he does become a bit cagier and more reserved almost immediately afterward.]

...okay.

[ Trucy's quick to catch on. She frowns, not liking that reaction at all. She turns to face him completely again, posters and foreign cities forgotten for the moment. She knows just how devoted he was to Lamiroir, and she knows that everything that's happened to him thus far, including this new venture, has not exactly been easy for him. ]

...Speaking of 'okay', are you okay?

[ There's genuine concern in her voice, and it shows on her face, too. She doesn't want to bring Lamiroir or the past up a whole lot at this point... perhaps later, but not yet. ]

[That was not a question he was expecting, and he just kind of stares at her for a moment, pointing at himself in reflexive inquiry before he recovers enough to answer properly.]

... first you are needing for worry yourself maybe.

Myself? No, I'm okay, really. I'm just a little shocked that we're here, that's all.

[ Here together, at that. ]

At the very least, I think we should stick together. At least until we get our bearings, that is. What do you say?
