RC Test Drive!

I don't really have a fitting picture for this.

G'day, Ruby City! It's time for a meme for both testdrivers and denizens.

Been itching to test out some CR but haven't had the posts to do it? Thinking of apping a character but not sure they'll fit in the city walls?

Have no fear, a meme for you is here.

Directions:

  • Post with your character with their name and canon on top!

  • Choose a location and prompt or wait for someone else to tag.

  • If you'd like, leave contact info for people to get in contact for plotting and other such shenans.

  • Tag around! Make friends. Don't be afraid to chat OOC while tagging.

Locations:

  1. Train Station: New arrival, or waiting to welcome people? Either way, the train comes in, but you still can't ride it out.

  2. Cathedral: Looking for redemption? Just doing a little sight-seeing? Or just getting a little shelter?

  3. The Clocktower: You can see the whole city from here!

  4. The Black Stallion Saloon: You were told the burgers were great here-- but maybe you just came for the beer.

  5. The Library: You came to do a little research, but it looks like all of the information's just out of your reach. Though, you can always find a way to pass the time here.

  6. The Coffee Joint: Run by Lukas, a lovely place to have a chat and a bite to eat.

  7. Le Cafe Anglais: A Parisian-British fusion that's as charming as it sounds and serves the best tea around.

Scenarios

  1. Just walked in: You intended to get here, and you made your way in; but now someone's caught your eye and you'd like to have a chat.

  2. Been here all day: You've been sitting around minding the time. Maybe you didn't notice them at first or maybe you were just working up the courage to talk-- either way, they know you're here and you know it too.

  3. Inclement weather: You're here because you've gotten rained in. This wasn't your choice, but at least it's dry-- right?

  4. Wild card: Got something better in mind? Well screw these prompts, try it out yourself!

Have fun, guys!

[ Sorry, were you looking at a map in the Library? Well, the atlas now is covered by a different one, that of a dusty collection of myths. Ancient Greek Myths. Volume One, even. The page overlaying the map is that of the various Titan-gods.

And the one who has intruded on Erwin's curiosity and reading is none other than Hange, wearing the utmost of intense expressions. She says nothing. She does nothing. She simply looks levelly at him, as if presenting him with the information will convey exactly what she's thinking. What is running through her mind is a number of things, but it should be obvious that above everything?

She's damn offended. Offended that Titans are but products of myths. ]

[Fortunately for Erwin, being randomly interrupted by Hange is so familiar and reminiscent of home that it's actually welcome in this strange place. Without missing a beat, he begins to read what's been placed in front of him.

Well. That is interesting, but he's not sure what to make of it. Will it be strategically useful to him? Probably not. Is it of obvious interest to Hange? Definitely. As it does involve Titans.

He doesn't exactly know what she's thinking, but he knows that look on her face, and so tries to keep his words neutral.
]

It is suggestive. They may exist in other worlds... I wish we could bring back some actually useful information. [He's far more focused on the practical aspects of the matter, as usual, not that he can't appreciate her more esoteric concerns.]

And hello to you too, I should say.

[ In contrast to his calm and diplomatic look, at his view of the information here as completely practical, as well as his polite greeting, Hange keeps her voice low. Strained. Dangerous, even, as if what she says-- although already known-- is absolutely blasphemy. ] There are no Titans here.

Commander...! [ She shouts this suddenly, backing away from him. From zero to sixty in one second goes her emotions on the topic. She repeats, ] There are no Titans here!

[ No doubt they will be kicked out of the library. Nevertheless, she continues to rant passionately, ] What-- how-- how am I supposed to research them when they are not here? How am I to help humanity when there are none here to observe...--?!

[personal profile] deviantlyhates 2013-07-25 06:16 am (UTC)(link)
[ She takes the book on mythology and shoves it right in his face. She's practically seething. ] These books have multitudes of information, yes, but they are are mostly irrelevant to our situation! How can such a wide variety of topics and pages upon pages of information yield nothing--!

[ She does know that extra information-- by the sciences provided here, of course-- are helpful, but that point is currently being repressed at her taking in the reality of the absence of her favorite topic. ] I'm disgusted that they pass them off as mere myths...! [ She spits, throwing the book down. ]

[ A moment passes as she breathes heavily, still clearly angry. It may seem like she's finally gotten a hold her self.

But. Nope. She hasn't. ]
Useless... it's all useless! [ She cries out, clearly upset. Let her wail and wallow in her sorrow for a moment or two. Eventually she will calm down-- ]

A-aa. [ A sheepish smile, and she straightens to be at attention. ]

Hello, Commander.
humanwelfare: (I was cautioned to surrender)

haha no, don't apologize, it's everything I could have wanted.

[personal profile] humanwelfare 2013-07-25 06:44 am (UTC)(link)
[Erwin regards Hange in silence for a moment. Or two. He allows this all to sink in.]

This isn't the time to be emotional.

I'd like nothing better than to bring back information about the Titans that could save the people we've left behind, but as you've said, there are no Titans here, and to all appearances, there's nothing we can learn about them here, not directly. That said, this place has a wealth of knowledge, on so many subjects--things I hadn't so much as imagined before I came here--and there's no way of telling what may be of use to us. It could be the smallest fact, hidden away. We should discount nothing. We should do everything within our power to turn this situation to our advantage.

It is not useless. Our work is never useless. We fight for humanity, no matter where we go. There are dangers here as well, and mysteries to be solved, and there is a city full of innocent people that needs defending.

[He pauses, his sobriety lightening somewhat.]

At ease.

[ It's a good thing he speaks to her firmly this time. His affective personality reflects upon her, easing the tension in her muscles. That's not to say she is entirely happy with this situation, but she's calmer than before.

She hears him. She agrees with him. But the one thing on her mind is-- ]

But.... there are still no Titans.... [ She looks and sounds defeated when she is allowed to break a formal stance. At least she offers a counter point: ] You want me to read up as much as I can, without having anything to apply any gained knowledge towards. Information like that-- that's only half as effective.

[ What should she do, build Titan dummies? ]
humanwelfare: (there were three of us this morning)

[personal profile] humanwelfare 2013-07-25 07:20 am (UTC)(link)
I know.

It's strange, isn't it? To live in a world without them. Even though it's what we've always worked for.

[It's both unnerving and a relief. He knows they're not there, but he can't help but half-expect them to appear, just when they're least expected.]

Yes, that's exactly what I want you to do. If there's anyone who can find something that might relate to the Titans, or be useful against them, and realize how to apply that information, I know it's you.

Half as effective is better than not effective at all.

[ He's right, and she has been determined to review the information here anyway. So, finally Hange nods affirmatively, smiling apologetically for her recent outburst. Because now that he mentions it-- ]

Actually... I've already found a cross-reference with our Titans and those of the myths provided here. [ She speaks one name, a name that has only become well known in recent light. ] "Ymir".
humanwelfare: (I've changed my name so often)

[personal profile] humanwelfare 2013-07-25 07:56 am (UTC)(link)
[He doesn't seem troubled by her outburst, his demeanor calm, a faint smile of his own on his face. It's not as if Hange's outbursts are anything new to him. Having to deal with one was almost welcome, in its way, and if he wasn't able to deal with the foibles of those in his command by now... he wouldn't be fit for the post. He might even miss those foibles a little, not that he's about to admit it. What Hange says brings him back from whatever reminiscing he might be in danger of to the matter at hand.]

Ymir.

[That is interesting. That "Titans" were referenced in myths was one thing, but for a particular name to come up? That's more than a little odd.]

What did you find?
deviantlyhates: (f: so as soon)

[personal profile] deviantlyhates 2013-07-25 02:47 pm (UTC)(link)
[ She wouldn't bring up the name if it just had been mentioned in passing. For her there is a rule of three to go by when relaying information to Erwin: two is a coincidence, and three is a solid pattern. ] Ymir belongs to the Norse mytholgical tales. [ Whoever the Norse are, she doesn't know and frankly they're not important right now. ] According to these stories, it was from Ymir's body from whom their gods fashioned the rest of the world. [ That alone isn't enough to be significant, so this pause is for just a tad of dramaticness. Her glasses catch light as she tilts her chin upward confidently. ]

To them, Ymir is the original Titan.

[ The three reasons would be: the name Ymir itself, the fact that this Ymir is a Titan, and how these two facts match up with what their Ymir and the mysteries she's presented. Hange, of course, has her theories as to what this means, but she doesn't tend to speak them unless asked. ]
humanwelfare: (there were three of us this morning)

[personal profile] humanwelfare 2013-07-28 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
[He's silent for a moment, processing this.]

The original. I can see why you'd consider this significant.

[If they could actually a discovery this important, could identify the first Titan, it would be one of the greatest advances the Survey Corps had ever made. Actual information about the origins of the Titans. He's very intrigued, but his expression remains sober, restrained. He'll jump to no conclusions until he's heard everything. It's best to keep an open mind.]

And?

[He prompts her to continue. Knowing Hange as he does, he's sure she has more to say about the topic. It's his job to listen.]

[personal profile] deviantlyhates 2013-07-29 04:34 pm (UTC)(link)
And...

It seems to more than a coincidence, doesn't it? If that's true, then we'll learn even more than just one point.

First, it means that somehow the name name given to 'Ymir' itself is significant. It in turn means that the one who gave her the name must have read or known this myth to begin with. Someone, somewhere, may have a book on these very same myths inside the Walls despite the current ban on them.

To come about the second point, we must take the previous statements as assumptions. We might say that she is the first or original of something.

However, the question is first of what? First Titan is, of course, plausible and goes along with the myth. Yet in my opinion that seems unlikely. The two other theories is first of the humans who may shift into Titans, or-- if one is to take a more radical view point-- the first of the Titans who may shift into humans.

[ After a long moment, she shakes her head. ] Like I have said, this is mostly speculation. Without any evidence or Titans here, we cannot make any certain claims.
