Doppleganger Event Interest post
HEY GUYS, it's Luc. TWO THINGS.
1. I have my computer back. I'm still gonna be a little slow cos I'm catching up on school shit as well, but HUZZAH.
2. I have an event idea to keep you guys busy, and I'd like to know how you all feel about it.
Note: I've already talked to Fee about the NPCs involved, so don't worry while you're reading, it's all good.
Alright, here's how it goes.
It's a good thing Xion and Waver have warned everyone about the heartless around, right?
Well, if you don't know-- some heartless are born, and some are created. Artificial means can accomplish quite a few goals, after all, especially in a place where magic and technology from many worlds merges together.
One day in the city, a few people are approached by a little girl. Her name is Chassie, and she doesn't visit the city very often. This is a special case; after all, she needs 'volunteers' for her little game. Together with Chari, Chassie has created a new game with a set of rules, and their very own tools; new Emblem heartless called Mimics.
All Heartless are mimics, really. That's how they take form. But what if you taught a class of heartless to mimic people, down to their behaviour? That's how this game starts. People all around the city will notice-- if they care enough-- that little things about certain people in the city are different. That's because these people aren't the residents at all; they're Mimic heartless, donning the disguise of the residents that have been 'abducted' for this wild game of hide-and-go-seek.

Residents who aren't dopplegangers will notice that the emotions of the dopplegangers, while they're physically being copied in a way that's similar to the originals, are completely empty. This is because Heartless can't really feel a thing! They can mimic behaviour all they want, but they lack any real ability to feel. There are other differences, too-- but for the people abducted, will it be enough?
As if it weren't troublesome already, these mimics will argue and lie about their identities until one of two things happens; either the mimic must become confused by being forced to state a contradiction against the original's character, or be called out by saying something along the lines of you are a heartless or whatever phrases distinctly state that the heartless doppleganger is not the person they are mimicking. These mimics are casting illusion spells and can only keep them up if the illusion is believed.
One more thing. They're Heartless. Once you knock down their identity, well... they're gonna want to steal your heart. Once a mimic is discovered, they will revert out of their disguise and attack. ( The residents familiar with Heartless will notice that a mimic's emblem is slightly different from the heartless emblem; through its center is a red shape similar to Ruby City's obelisk. ) In order to complete the challenge, whoever discovered the heartless is going to have to defeat them-- or get someone else to!
Once all of the Mimics are defeated, Chassie will declare the game 'won' and return the missing people to their places. Aren't you all sweet for helping her play a game and working so hard together?
The dopplegangers, of course, will all be people who Chassie spoke to on that first day. Because this is an opt-in event, the people who choose to be dopplegangers will be in charge of playing as the mimics while disguised. However, if you would prefer not to roleplay as the mimic heartless in Attack mode, I'll be making a Mimic NPC account to handle the battles against the Mimics.
TL;DR:
Chari and Chassie begin a game.
People notice people aren't acting right.
(Dopplegangers are played by the muns of the missing characters. Mimic Heartless don't have to be, unless you really wanna play one.)
People call out the mimics.
People kill the mimics.
Once all the mimics are destroyed, the game is over and the 'volunteers' get to go home.
(if you guys really want some sort of reward I guess we can work that out, too.)
THE STUFF BELOW IS ONLY FOR PEOPLE WHO CARE ABOUT THE BATTLE THREADS, which can be handwaved if they have to be idc, I'm just trying to keep things fun for you all.
Each of the mimic heartless have a total of 600HP upon discovery, though the last three will work up to be double this for the sake of fun. The average human's punch will take out about 40-70HP depending on how strong the person is, and average human weapon based attacks (blunt objects doing the lowest damage and sharp ones-- well you get the idea) can do anywhere between 80-100 damage per hit. If you all want to make it more challenging, we can also cap some of the powers of the fighters involved.
SO. Questions? Comments? Fun idea? Shit idea?
NEW IDEA UPDATES
Remember, Chari and Chassie are operating this as a game. They are organising it as though it is completely sport-- so it's being done as though it is sport.
There will be a scoreboard on the Obelisk with the number of days left as well as the ##/## of mimics caught. It is a pleasantly decorated sign-- creepy isn't fun, okay.
I'd like to have at the very least ten mimics so that this can be fun for everyone. The more mimics there are, the more investigators and fighters can be involved.
I think a good timeframe for this would be a one-week IC time limit for the contest. That way it doesn't get stale.
The dopplegangers aren't operating on a 'dark' version or 'evil' version. They're trying to imitate the people they're replacing to a T, since their independent goals are to steal hearts. The difference involved is the fact they can't feel or accurately reproduce emotions. You know that feeling you get when someone is pretending to be happy but you can tell they're not? Think of it like an emotional uncanny valley. The dopplegangers can copy all they want, but they can't actually feel emotions. They are heartless, after all!

Yes I did just vector an entire freaking heartless for you people

**Be careful, though, characters! Don't interrogate them too quickly; after all, if you're good enough, you may get hints about who else is a doppleganger. That is, if the mimic you're talking to isn't lying.

I think Tojiko will just be getting drunk this event.

since contradictions totally ARE his thing and xion's most used to fighting heartless they could probably be a super effective duo in taking this shit out

though i'm actually ambivalent on whether or not to make her a mimic or just have her freak out super hard once the mimics start becoming obvious
i kind of want to actually keep her uninvolved mimic wise and perhaps help spearhead whatever investigation team ends up coming together, especially if aqua is becoming a mimic.
actually yeah no i'm just declaring Xion will not be a mimic and instead will be doing her best to organize and direct any investigation work/battle teams. She'll feel personally responsible for this happening so there's no way she won't get as deeply involved as possible, and also not sleep for a week straight. or come home. at all. sorry house 12.
ANYONE WANNA JOIN ME IN THE INVESTIGATION/FIGHTER TEAMS, let's get some Heartless resistance up in here, come plot with me.

THAT SAID Eren is actually pretty useful for investigating too? He's pretty adept at sensing stuff "off" about people. Granted he never figured out the traitors in canon until they spilled the beans but THIS IS DIFFERENT.

Don't think Sephiroth would opt-in though being so very outwardly emotionless anyway, but he'd enjoy the show!

but as well as having Madoka help out with the anti-Heartless squad I'm gonna offer Kariya here up as a mimic because his life has so not been difficult enough lately
