March 3-10 Event!

RUBY CITY EVENT
Hide and Seek

You asked, and now you shall receive.

**This event has been moved for the players's ease to March 3 through March 10th!

Things have been quiet, haven't they?

Too quiet. It looks like it's time to have a bit of fun, and who knows better to have fun than a little girl? Your friendly neighbourhood NPCs are back in town. It looks like Chassie ([personal profile] chassiebarrows_npc) has just the game to stir things up a bit, and with help from Chari ([personal profile] charilandry_npc), she's going to send all of you on a little goose chase.

Unfamiliar with Chari and Chassie? Chari is a young woman appearing around 24 years old. As shown in a recent thread with Aqua, she likes to see people working together. Chassie is an NPC who appears to be a child. Though she gathers trust easily, proximity causes an adverse affect on residents, so she tends to avoid the city. Once, she changed the city into a fairy tale land.

It's a really good thing Xion and Waver warned all of you about the heartless that have appeared in the city, right? What they didn't mention, of course, was that Heartless come in two types: Pureblood heartless, which manifest on their own, and Emblem heartless. Emblem heartless were created artificially by a few dubious members of the Kingdom Hearts universe, and in a place like Ruby City, it isn't hard to figure out how to artificially engineer new heartless for a silly little game.

So they made this little guy.

Cute, isn't he? This is the Mimic Class heartless. It has access to magic that allows it to mimic a person's form and behaviour almost to a T.

Why almost?

Well, Heartless are called heartless because they are entirely devoid of emotion. That means that while they can copy a person's behaviour in response to situations, they can't actually feel or express the emotion involved. So, if a mimic copies, say, Mario, they might copy his Mamma Mia! response when in trouble-- but they can't actually express the disappointed emotion behind it. All emotions they show are hollow.

On Monday, March 3, Chassie will be picking volunteers. She's just going through town acting very harmlessly, but the people she approaches will disappear the next day. Of course, no one will notice; all of those volunteers will be replaced by Mimic dopplegangers.

On Tuesday, March 4th, a large scoreboard will appear on the Obelisk. It's quaintly decorated and rather cute, though very simplistic and cryptic. It's basically this thing below, but bigger.

It's clear that whatever's going on-- whoever did it only thinks of it as a game. It's all in sport. But what exactly is going on?

The residents will find out when a strange transmission broadcasts on the network. The video will display a watch on the ground, showing one of the mimic heartless from its tail to its chest. The heartless will then shift forms, but the viewers will only see the shoes of the doppleganger walking to the watch and shutting it.

Following this broadcast, the Network will begin to malfunction and only allow text transmissions and spotty audio calls for the duration of the event.

The residents now have a goal; find out who the dopplegangers are and defeat them.

But as if it weren't troublesome already, these mimics will argue and lie about their identities until one of two things happens; either the mimic must become confused by being forced to state a contradiction against the original's character, or be called out by distinctly stating that the heartless doppleganger is not the person they are mimicking. These mimics are casting illusion spells and can only keep them up if the illusion is believed-- so when they state an inaccuracy or are called out, they revert to their heartless form and attack.

**Be careful, though, characters! Don't interrogate them too quickly; the dopplegangers know who each other is and if you can weed through their lies, you might get hints on who is and isn't real.

As said before, once the heartless are in their natural form, they're going to try and attack and steal hearts. To make the game fair, it looks like there's been a cap on the powers of the residents. Each Heartless will have a set HP of 1500 points, and the average weapon hit from any resident will deal a total of 150 damage. The average physical hit will do 80, and the average magic spell hit will do 230 damage.

Of course, these threads can be handwaved if you wouldn't like to thread a battle. If you do, however, the doppleganger player has the choice of playing the mimic themselves or asking Luc to NPC the mimic heartless in the thread. All battles will be turn-based (just like in Kingdom Hearts), so a 1-on-1 thread will be 1 attack per post. 2+-on-1 threads will go in the format of Player 1's move > Player 2's move > Enemy's move and so on.

~BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE. The characters will notice there's a ##/## on the scoreboard, as well as a time limit. If there are still dopplegangers undiscovered at the end of day 6, on day 7 they will combine into a bigger, more powerful Heartless Boss. For every 2 undiscovered dopplegangers there will be one large boss with 3000HP, and an attack team of up to 6 residents is allowed to battle. And we'll definitely sort more of that out when/if we get there, don't worry. It's flexible depending on the number of dopplegangers left.

So, let's re-cap.

  • ***ABOUT SIGNUPS AND PLAYING DOPPLEGANGERS: Dopplegangers, while in the form of the character, will be played by their character's mun. We're not going for too much behavioural change; just a natural tendency to try and keep people from thinking they're dopplegangers and an inability to express emotion. If they are called out as a doppleganger or say something that isn't true to the character, they must reveal themselves as Mimics. The player then has the option, if a battle thread is to ensue, to either play the Mimic themselves or have it NPC'd.

Signups for Dopplegangers will be screened. You may reveal that your character is a doppleganger if you would like, but to add to the mystery of it, you also have the option to sign up in complete secret and totally screw over all of your wonderful friends.

Remember, this post is for sign-ups, not plotting. Comments to this entry will be screened. Refer to the links above for the plotting post.
