4. The Black Stallion Saloon: You were told the burgers were great here-- but maybe you just came for the beer.

5. The Library: You came to do a little research, but it looks like all of the information's just out of your reach. Though, you can always find a way to pass the time here.

6. The Coffee Joint: A lovely place to have a chat and a bite to eat.

7. Le Cafe Anglais: A Parisian-British fusion that's as charming as it sounds and serves the best tea around.

[Careful there, Steve; Loki might enjoy seeing a little bit of evil on your face. Because somewhere in his twisted mind, it means he's gotten under your skin. Still, he did not do anything but nod.]

Anyone I should know?

[He paused, half expecting a critical look, before continuing.]

I've a right to know, least any previous incarnations of me have tempted those who have the capability of treating me like an ant.

[captain_asthmatic]

[His eyes flicker slightly and he shrugs. He's really not good at lying. At. All.] I doubt you would know them. And I have no idea who you might have pissed off before.

[This conversation was quickly leaning toward being useless. Loki just let out a sigh and a shrug, shaking his head.]

Ah, I suppose I will have to discover that on my own then. What is dying one more time?

[He began to walk away, starting to count down in his head when the Soldier's sense of righteousness would kick in.]

[captain_asthmatic]

[Steve gritted his teeth and moved to follow] Look, if I knew, then I'd tell you. The person who had met you before is my friend and she seemed to think you were a really nice guy, so I'm guessing you did a good job of fooling her.

[See? He can be sarcastic, too.]

And just so you know, if you die you just come back.

[That got Loki to pause, a slow, small smile creeping its way onto his face. He doubted there would be many women in the multiverse that he would leave a good impression on, much less waste his time on, and that just left...]

She?

[He turned slightly, an eyebrow raised. He would address the issue of being revived after death later, but for now:]

She wouldn't happen to be Jane Foster, by any chance?

[captain_asthmatic]

[The surprise and dismay on Steve's face is probably answer enough. Then he clenches his jaw.

He can't understand how Loki had guessed that so easily. There are lots of women in the city. Though only one from their own world. Does that matter so much that Loki immediately knows who he's talking about just from that?

Apparently.]

Yeah, that's right.

[Loki smirked at that, nodding slightly. He was enjoying this, toying with the Soldier. The best part was, he had only told one lie.]

I thought as much. Shielding an individual as forces are exploding above them tends to leave an impression.

[Loki turned to leave again, waiting to hear the man's brain grind to a halt trying to process that.]

[captain_asthmatic]

[It's not actually audible, though the check in his step is.]

What are you talking about?

Oh, she didn't tell you?

[It was a good thing his back was to the Captain; he doubt he would have appreciated the amused smile on his face.]

She had the unfortunate problem of absorbing the Aether. Nasty thing, slowly killing her; we had to allow the only person that could take it out of her do so in hopes to destroy it.

[He paused, glancing back at the Soldier.]

It didn't work, by the way, but the duty to protect her fell on me while Thor tried.

[captain_asthmatic]

She doesn't know. She was brought here before you came to Earth to steal the Tesseract.

[He rolled that around in his mind. It was certainly hard to believe. There was no one he could ask, no way to verify it.]

So you want me to believe you died protecting Thor's girlfriend. Really?

[trustinmyrage]

Really? Hm...

[Well that was a shame... and she still had faith in him, even with the almighty Captain America to tell her what a bad idea that was? Yes, he could see why Thor was so fond of her; they were both far too trusting idiots.]

Were you not listening? I died saving my brother; she just needed protecting until she could get away from the fight.

[captain_asthmatic]

[Steve is pretty sure she'll be more wary after what Steve has already told him, but he's still concerned about what Loki might do to her as part of his desire for vengeance on Thor. Maybe not immediately, but at some point he might have a reason to hurt her.]

I was listening. But protecting her was part of the whole...same mission where you died. It seems too pat for me. If you wanted me to trust that you'd changed, that I didn't have to keep as close an eye on you and to give you a chance, then you'd tell me a story like this. Fact is, I have no proof that any of it is true.

[Loki let out a tired sounding sigh.]

Believe me or not if you wish; I do not answer to you, nor will I.

[He clasped his hands behind his back as he turned around, favoring the Captain with a sneer.]

But understand this; it would take a serious act for me to even consider aiding my brother, and it would take a serious act for him to come to me begging for my help.

[captain_asthmatic]

Like the death of your mother. [Steve's tone is a bit kinder as he says it] I get that. And maybe she really is dead, and maybe you really did die saving Thor's life. Maybe I'll believe you, someday. It depends on what you do while you're here.

[The mere mention of Frigga, even if it had already been brought up in this conversation, was still enough to make Loki twitch and turn away to hide his irritation. Perhaps if his last words to her did not involve denying that she was his mother, it would not still bother him like this.]

[Not that he was ever going to bring that up.]

Well, that all depends, does it not?

[captain_asthmatic]

[Steve did have to admit, if Loki was making it all up, he was a pretty good liar. That twitch and turn away looked like real emotion]

On what?

[trustinmyrage]

[Good thing the Captain did not actually say that out loud; Loki's reaction to such a comment would have been swift and painful.]

On whether or not there is anything worthwhile here.

[He gave another glance around.]

So far, I am not impressed.

[captain_asthmatic]

It's primitive, even by my standards. [Steve has to agree, though his sentiment about it is different. He doesn't really mind that much.] No electricity. There's gas for heating and cooking, and you have to use real ice to keep food cold. My grandparents lived this way.

[He glances at him sidelong, amused] So this world isn't worth conquering, is that what you're saying?

[trustinmyrage]

[Loki came to an immediate stop at that, before slowly turning to stare at the Captain like he was kidding. He was not one to complain about lack of comforts, but at least a warm light to read by was not too much to ask for!]

...I am not allowed to ever rest, am I?

[captain_asthmatic]

[There are gas lamps and candles and such things. Steve's managed to find light to read by.

Steve shrugs, his lips twisting wryly.] I know the feeling.

[trustinmyrage]

Yes, so I've heard.

[Loki paused, before he let out a soft breath. He let it appear that he was just going to accept it for now, but there would be a chance in the future for him to do something, whether it was to break free of this prison or enslave everyone in it. Only the future would tell.]

I've no interest in continuing our conflict in such an enclosed space. I will not swear to protect anyone, nor will I swear to destroy them. Leave me in my peace, and I will do the same.

[For now.]

[captain_asthmatic]

[Steve glanced at him, and nodded. That was the best that he could expect, actually.] Fair enough. You have a deal. [He holds out his hand to shake on it]

[Loki glanced at his hand, his expression much like he was going to catch something if he touched a mere mortal's hand. After a moment, however, he consented, his hand clasping the Soldier's firmly.]

[And shockingly, they both utterly failed to spontaneously combust.]
