Monkey D. Luffy - One Piece
The sound of chewing fills the audio of the feed, drowning out any other semblance of sound as the cracking and bending of metal is heard. Moments after, the darkness in the feed is flooded with light as the recording comes into focus on the black-haired youth.
"Ara~! I thought this thing was candy. Hmph-! Just what is this weird thing?"
II. Action - The Black Stallion
He hadn't intended to do so in the first meal he'd had since arriving in the city, but given his erratic sleeping habits it was to be expected. His face was deep in the dish, planted firmly in the steak and potatoes the brunette behind the bar had prepared for him. Subtle snores rise from what little bit of his face wasn't pressed into the meal, suggesting that he had fallen asleep in mid-meal.
"zzZ.. zzZ.. zzZ.."
no subject
That's...odd. Could someone really be that exhausted?
Being the gentleman that he is he gets up and wanders over to sit across from the kid, reaching out to give his shoulder a shake. If that doesn't work he'll tap his hook on the plate in hopes that'll jolt him out of sleep.
"Oi, mate, come about."
no subject
Immediately his head lifts from the plate, hearing the metal knock against the porcelain. Licking his chops he turns to face the stranger as he's brought back to the waking world.
"Man. That was a nice nap! Hmm-?"
He blinks once. Twice. By the forth time he looks as if his brain has switched off. He raises a hand, pointing a finger at the man just before speaking.
"Someone stole your hand."
no subject
At Luffy's sudden deduction that his hand was "stolen" he can't help but to laugh a little at that. He wasn't entirely wrong when he really thinks about it. Actually that was quite accurate. He didn't just lose it to Rumple, he took it.
"Aye." He raises his hook, turning his wrist stump so the curved metal is profile. "My enemy, the Crocodile known as Rumpelstiltskin took me hand and ran off with it. He thought I had a magic bean clutched in my grip."
He's leaving the Milah part out for now, he has a feeling the kid won't care about such things as a broken heart and lost love.
no subject
He laughs along with the gentle fellow, holding his stomach as his hunch was proven true. It doesn't last long, however, before he's staring at the crude looking replacement once more.
"So.. How do you play tag if you got a hook fot a hand?"
no subject
There's another small laugh at that question.
"I haven't played tag since I was a lad but... I suppose I would mainly use my hand." He shrugs, "Though, I think I could use my hook so long as I was careful. Might even work to my advantage to snag your shirt and catch you." He'll look up to catch the bartenders eye and nods, pointing to himself in silent gestures for a drink.
"You must've been exhausted to have fallen asleep mid-meal. Did you just arrive?"
no subject
He looks to the plate, seeing the remains of what had been his dinner, mashed into an amalgamation of flavors and textures. He gasps loudly, his face going pale as he realizes the horror that lays in front of him.
Fists pound against the bartop as he stand abruptly, holding the plate up into the air for a moment before scooping the remains into his mouth. There's no display of mannerisms as the young lad simply barks out his dissatisfaction.
"SOMEONE FELL ASLEEP IN MY FOOD AND I NEED MORE!"
He turns back to the Captain, chewing and swallowing the remnants in haste. Setting the plate down, he cushions his rear atop the stool.
"You hungry, Mister? There food here's pretty good!" He seems to have all but ignored the stranger's question, safe a moment of thought that does offer a reply. "Yeah. Just got here. My stomach led me here."
no subject
"I'm fine, thanks, Mate. I'll certainly take your word for it." He thanks the tender when they return with his drink, taking the bottle and pouring some into a glass they provided. He took a swig.
"I suppose my thoughts led me here." He shrugs, "I can relax a bit more in a tavern."
He debates it for a moment but eventually turns to offer the boy his good hand for a shake.
"The name is Killian Jones, though I often go by Captain Hook."
no subject
"Ahh-! You have a hook for a hand and your name is Captain Hook! Is that just a coincidence or is it because of your hand?" It had to be coincidence, right? Crocodile didn't look like a Crocodile, but he had crocodiles at his disposal. Perhaps the steady and sea-fairing man was given the title because of his fierce looking accessory.
"I'm Monkey D. Luffy. I'm the man who's going to be the King of the Pirates."
The atmosphere about him seems to loom like a giant towering over the two of them. The confidence which exudes from his words isn't boisterous or foolishly optimistic. He says his introduction as nothing short of fact, looking into Killian's eyes with a resolve that is focused well beyond the capacity that most sailors and men carried. It is a bold claim, and one that causes Luffy to grin to his fullest as he releases the fellow Captain's hand.
"What kind of Captain are ya', Uncle Hook? Are you a Marine or are you a pirate?"
no subject
"Well, after I lost my hand I gained this hook instead, so the Moniker came about from that and my reputation."
Sleek brows raise once again at the boys claim and the fierce, looming atmosphere behind it didn't go unnoticed. He'd never quite felt or experienced anything like it before, but it left little room for doubt that the boy was entirely serious. He stood strong in the face of this strange power the boy wielded, even if part of him wanted to shrink back away from it. His confidence was beyond anyone he'd ever met, to the point you could literally feel it. That was impressive indeed!
"Pirate," Lifting his goblet with a roguish smile, "of course. And you, my good Monkey, King of the pirates you say? Afraid I'm not familiar, or rather we don't have a King where I'm from." He takes a swig of his drink.
"Though I can proudly say I was one of the most well known and feared pirates in my realm. There wasn't a man above me."
no subject
"Haven't heard of the Pirate King, huh? I thought every pirate knew about Roger. You must not be from the Grand Line then. Roger was the greatest pirate to sail the seas, and it's said that the man who claims his treasure will become the great King of the Pirates!"
He plucks the straw hat from his head, spinning it on a single finger like a well-balanced ball.
"I made a promise to some one close to me- that someday I'd become a great pirate and find Roger's treasure. I vowed to become the Pirate King and return this hat that was entrusted to me."
Placing the old, flimsy looking hat atop his head, he looks back to Hook with a bright grin once more on his face.
"Feared? You must be a really strong pirate! Did you have lots of musicians in your crew? Pirates gotta' have musicians!"
no subject
It didn't mean much but it still amused him that the Pirate King from Luffy's world was named Roger. It was interesting to find strange little parallels like that.
"Least, that's what she's called now. Before I was a pirate I was in the kings Navy as a Lieutenant under my Captain and brother, Liam. At that time she was known as the Jewel of the Realm."
He listened intently to the boys story, smiling fondly at his promise and nodding along. He took another swig and gave another small laugh.
"No, no musicians in our crew, though the men do try."
no subject
"Pirate crews's gotta' have musicians! That's what pirates do best, right? Sing and dance, live the life of freedom! Sailing all day and going out on grand adventures, seeing the world and everything there is to offer, all the while singing great songs and eating great food!"
He slams his fist atop the bartop once more, grabbing at the drink in front of him and downing it in one gulp. Letting out a sigh of relief, he turns back to the Captain and raises his empty glass before him.
"Guys like us have to enjoy every moment we've got! A pirate's life is dangerous. You never know what moment might be your last. Me? I aim to be smiling when they take my head. Smiling up until the very last moment. A life with no regrets, as long as I follow my dreams!
What about you, Uncle Hook?"
ngl I almost did the "guidelines" line from PotC
"Ah, but a true Pirate's crew won't follow the standard to the letter. The only thing constant is the code, even that is fairly flexible." He smiles none-the-less.
"Though I agree, a pirates life should be full of whimsy and great adventure, good food and company as well. Why, the whole point of it is to see the world and all it has to offer while enjoying freedom at it's finest."
It was strange to be called Uncle by the boy, yet somehow fitting, so he continued to let it go. At the question however he paused to mull over his response. It was a heavy question that, how he'd go out, but he thought up his answer.
"Aye, a pirates life is hard and dangerous at times, we have to live like it's our last, but fight like we want to live forever." He nods.
"I have no intention of being caught or dying by anyone's hands. When I go, it'll be after I've lived a full and satisfying life. And people will be singing songs about me perhaps, or at least my name and story will carry on through the ages."
