Thinking of apping a character but not sure they'll fit in the city walls?

4. The Black Stallion Saloon: You were told the burgers were great here-- but maybe you just came for the beer.

5. The Library: You came to do a little research, but it looks like all of the information's just out of your reach. Though, you can always find a way to pass the time here.

6. The Coffee Joint: A lovely place to have a chat and a bite to eat.

7. Le Cafe Anglais: A Parisian-British fusion that's as charming as it sounds and serves the best tea around.

[Lily's about ready to get up to leave, money or no. She's been sitting for over an half hour, her tea long gone, and frankly there's only so many times you can transfigure a cup out of boredom before even that becomes a little monotonous. She makes a move to get up, before stops short as she realizes who's standing in front of her.]

Black? Wonderful, you're here too. Well, where's Potter then? Merlin knows the two of you are practically fused together.

[Merlin, that's nostalgia of the worst kind. Sirius swallows, realizing that Lily is from another time, long ago, and that breaking apart in front of her would be quite inappropriate.

Okay. Acting, he can do that. Although he does wonder how long she can ignore the fact that he's definitely older than the last time she saw him.]

I'll be sure to tell him you miss him.

[She's clearly unamused.]

Please don't give him the encouragement.

[So she didn't quite pick up on his shocked face earlier in her reflex of bristling at his presence, but she can at least recognise he looks a little different, and says as much.]

...You look different. You haven't gotten taller, have you?

[It doesn't even feel like it's actually him talking. Like he's listening to someone from far away and very long ago.]

I haven't grown much recently, no. [Witty banter isn't really on his mind right now.] Merlin... Lily, you look... [Young, alive, one of these inappropriate things he shouldn't really bring up right now. Or call her Lily. Oops.]

That's not what I meant by it and you know it.

[Really not earning yourself any positive points there Sirius. She touches her hair unconsciously as he stares her, shifting slightly.]

Look like what? Sirius Black, stop staring at me like I've sprouted a second head, it's unnerving.

[He's not overly worried about that, he remembers that he didn't earn any positive points until after Lily and James had started to date and they suddenly realized that they had to get along. Merlin's beard, it seems forever ago.]

Just caught me off-guard. When did you get here?

A few hours ago, give or take. It's a little hard to say, since the only watch I have doesn't seem to tell time.

[She pulls the offending object out of her pocket, showing it to him.]

Where is "here" exactly?

Yeah, I have one of those thingies too. [He uses the technical terminology of someone who grew up in a pureblood family.] It's called Ruby City. It's...

[She begins to her eyes at the use of "thingie" but stops short.]

What do you mean we can't leave? I can't stay here; my parents don't know where I am, I have none of my things...I need to go back. School's starting soon.

Relax. It's a bit of a... Y'see, time doesn't pass back home while you're here. A bit as if you've got two timelines and only one can run at a time.

[It's difficult to explain, but at least a Hogwarts education helps one to keep an open mind where some things are concerned.]

We're stuck in an alternative time then? And we just can't leave?

[It's amazing what a wizarding education allows you to start accepting as simple truth. Well, relatively.]

Not that it isn't completely pleasant being stuck with you in "Ruby City", but I don't accept that we're simply stuck here for all time.I mean, haven't you tried? I never pegged you as the type you sit down and accept something like that Black.

[Accept being stuck. Damn, this conversation wouldn't go well, not that he expected it to.]

I keep trying. Some leave, but no one knows what causes that.

But by all means, I'm sure you can solve it within an hour.

...They just disappear? No word or anything?

[Even as the child of muggles, Lily's spent enough time growing up in the wizarding world during the war to know that disappearances of an unexplained nature are never good.]

Well someone needs to. We can't just stay here.

It's limbo. [He's not in the greatest of moods, as recent stays at Azkaban are prone to render someone.]

[She rolls her eyes at the slight melodramatics.]

Oh come off it, it's not like we're dead. What have you even be doing all this time, if you've decide you're stuck here?

[WORD CHOICE, word choice, Lily. Right in his heart.

'It's not as like we're dead.'

He was almost tempted to laugh, but he had a feeling it wouldn't be the kind of laugh she'd be used to hearing, so instead he just shakes his head.]

I try to get back. Unfinished business, you understand.

Like what exactly?

[Consider her still unimpressed with the nonchalant routine there Black.]

[Like being in Azkaban. Hoping to escape one day so he could hunt down Peter. Keep Harry safe. Her son.

Damn.

In the end he just shrugs.]

Marauder business.

[She sighs, rolling her eyes.]

Of course, how could I forget your ragtag little club. I can't imagine how many important tasks you must be missing. How will the Slytherins survive without being hung upside down by you and your band of friends?

By doing much worse than hanging people upside down.

[Like being evil Death Eaters. His world view is a lot more black and white than he likes to pretend.]

[She swallows hard, looking a little hurt.]

They're not all like that. You can't just assume, then you're no better than them.

Oh, I'm related to most of them. It goes a bit beyond assumptions.

Perhaps no better, but better prepared.

[Way too serious, without any pun, and so he shakes his head.]

Do you have a place to stay at yet? [A small hesitation.] Evans?

[She still looks likes she wants to challenge his point, but thinking about it only seems to conjure up memories of old former friends, so she drops it.]

...I can't say that I do. I didn't think I would have to stay very long.

Come with me. There's room where I'm staying.

[He hesitates for a moment, frowning.]

Fair warning. My brother is staying there too and he's...

If he says anything I'll hex his arse into next week if you're not faster. [Credit where credit is due.]

[Her first gut reaction is to quickly reject the offer, but she thinks about her realistic options, about who she really knows in the city.]

Only for a night or two. I'll find own lodgings after that.

[She cracks a small smile at that.] I'll hold you to it.
