I...okay! I'm glad you do. Uh, so is it too strange to ask that next time we can try to make something different? I've always wanted to try to make a pot pie. Is it different?

Pot pies tend to need a little more time to make the filling, but I can certainly see about showing you how to make Shepherd's Pie or, more likely, a simple chicken pot pie. It all depends on what kind of meat, or lack there of, that you like best.

I don't mind simple. Simple is best, I think. But knowing me, I might overcomplicate things a little.

That still doesn't mean you shouldn't go traveling without some kind of spice. Powdered garlic or a bit of rosemary will pick up just about anything.

Oh god yes. He needs more of that in his life.

[He laughs because that's happened before. He made the mistake of using the whole egg once instead of cracking it for the contents inside the shell when he was making a pie. Needless to say, the egg exploded and everything was a mess.]

That's a good rule to live by. I used to think that all things tasted good but it's the preparation that does the trick. I learned something new and I like it!

Spices are a thing of beauty and vague magic. It takes ages to find the matches that make your tongue leap with joy, but once you have them, they will do you right for years to come.

What does making an offering entail? I've never really done anything like that before. Is it to a god?

Usually wine and something personal to the god to offer in flames to them. Hestia represents the home and hearth. She is the secure structure in which Hera's standing over marriage and family find its safety. Without Hestia, there is no safety from the whims of the worst gods.

Ah. [A pause.] We should make an offering.

I think she'd like that. Even if they do not have inherent belief, the gods appreciate those who take the effort to make an offering.

Well, everyone needs a little something in their life. Might as well make the most of what I have and give a little back.

[She nods at that.] The wisest always give more than they take. It means that you'll have more people willing to stand by you in times of need.

I'll stand by them too. Everything works better when everyone's working together. I still believe it.

That's how survival has to work in a city like this. If the people can't look out for each other...who can they rely on?
