[Mini-Event] Fall Festival

RUBY CITY EVENT
Fall Festival

Scavenger hunt sign-ups are now closed!

It might be a little early for Halloween fun, but clearly, not everyone thinks so! After all, this is the month of Spooktober, isn't it? In celebration of all things scary, a very special person is going to be hosting a fall festival in the town center for your enjoyment! It will feature fun fare games, lots of fall treats with...interesting side affects, a costume shoppe whose affects are a little too lifelike, and a scavenger hunt with mysterious rewards. According to the posters going up all over town, the grand prize for the scavenger hunt is 'eerily spooktacular!'

This is just a short event. It will start on Friday, October 17th and end on Monday, October 20th, at which point the booths will be taken down with only the usual festival remnants blowing in the wind. The host of the event will be encouraging people to bring their own wares to trade or man some of the booths, which will be stocked with a fun variety of kitschy gifts that can be earned through equally kitschy games. (Do some of those plush dolls look like residents of the city wearing cheesy costumes? )

There will also be stands offering every kind of pumpkin anything imaginable. (Yes, that includes pumpkin lattes.) Some of these fall treats come with fun little side affects after being eaten; however the side affects wear off after about four hours. Here's some examples of what will happen to characters who get snack-happy.

Ghost Gingerbread Cookies: These cookies are shaped like ghosts, with white icing and black eyes. After snacking on one, your character becomes a ghost! They're still visible, just incorporeal and transparent. Comes complete with the ability to walk through walls - just don't get stuck when it wears off!

Puppy Popcorn Balls: These are decorated with small dog ears sculpted out of hazelnut chocolate, and for good reason - devouring one of these sticky treats will make you wolf out! It's focused on appearance and can be as simple as a pair of ears and a tail to gaining a snout, and sprouting a lot of fur. While you won't lose control of your rage, you will gain awesome sniffer powers. Careful who you hang out with for the next few hours. Some of these guys don't shower often enough at all.

Vampire Candy Corn: These little pouches of candy corn look almost normal, save for the red that replaces the traditional orange. Once the bag is completely eaten, your character will feel some really sharp fangs growing into place! This vampiric transformation is very much based on old-school Dracula - the widow's peak you'll be sporting on your paper-white skin is too dramatic for words, and while you won't get a hankering for blood, you might be wishing you had a long, flowing cape while under the affects of this treat.

Zombie Caramel Apples: The caramel on this apple is swirled with red and the apples themselves are all green. Make no mistake, they're still all sorts of tasty...even if your skin does turn the same color as the apple after you're done with this treat. You'll get a little drooly, though you won't be hungry for brains. Your arm might fall off, though. (Don't worry, it grows back. No, really.)

Pumpkin Skeletal Latte: The sugarcubes that your barista dropped into your coffee were shaped like bones, and when you're done with the drink, you will be, too! Your clothes will still fit (weird), and you'll still have hair on your head (even weirder), but you'll be suspiciously lacking in the muscles-and-skin department. How you're still talking without a tongue and lips is anyone's guess.

NEW! For those residents who can't (or won't) indulge in the sweets being offered, there will be a small Costume Shoppe set up near one of the entrances to the festival. Manned by an old crone who is the very picture of what a witch should look like, the little shop is very much smaller on the outside and filled with just about every costume imaginable. These costumes are for the event only, and the being working the shop insists that they be returned by the end of the festival. Some of the costumes are indeed enchanted to alter the wearer into whatever they represent (at least physically); however, we leave it up to the player's discretion. These costumes will not trump your treats, though! If you're dressing up as a fairy, eating a popcorn ball will indeed turn you into a dog in a dress. =3

The Scavenger Hunt is geared for teams of four or fewer folks, and each team will be given a polaroid camera and a cloth loot sack to hold their stuff. Each loot sack is embroidered with an appropriately spooky symbol (witches, black cats, jack-o-lanterns, etc) and has heavy cord drawstrings.
The scavenger hunt itself will occur on the last day of the festival, though we will be passing out the item list on the first day. That way, you have the entirety of the event to plan out how your team acquires the items. Each team who completes the scavenger hunt will receive a reward!

Feel free to use this post for plotting. We will be answering questions, as well as accepting sign-ups for people to operate booths and for the scavenger hunt!

Can the dolls of residents be of people that aren't here anymore?
chaoticwhimsy: (I will crush them!)

[personal profile] chaoticwhimsy 2014-10-13 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm, okay.

...Can people steal the dolls?
chaoticwhimsy: (Mmm I don't know...)

Well Lumina is going to try and win the dolls of people she knew/get other people to win them but if it doesn't work she'd probably steal the rest!
chaoticwhimsy: (So ya know...)

I'd be down for that too, then! She'll try to steal the lightning doll.

For the scavenger hunt, can a team's hunt be entirely handwaved (with a reasonable explanation of how they found what they did, of course) or does there need to be some sort of thread proof that they found certain items? I'm going to be largely unavailable this weekend but I feel like it would be OOC for my character to pass up the festivities, so I wasn't sure how to handle it.

Also, this is a bit belated, but would it be possible to request a thread with Ikaros on the event post? It was indicated he'd be largely available in the opening description, but there's no interaction comment for him. ): I'd gladly provide the starter!
psych0p0mps: badly drawn Aradia with a question mark (♈ boggle vacantly)

1. can there be a doll of sollux in a bee costume
2. do you still get prizes if you use telekinesis on the carnival games, or is that considered cheating
3. are there frog cookies and if so can they just give you a big dumb frog head like in the sims (or would i need to use a costume for that)

SO. FOR THE SCAVENGER HUNT.

I'm wondering if, for the purposes of 'a Knight's sword', Sasha can be counted as a 'knight' and use one of her sword blades? Or does it have to be an actual knight?

Late obviously, I just got the idea. How hard or rare are dolls of people who haven't been around for an excessively long time? For example, I know there used to be a Baelfire in the city, but that was waaay back, would there by chance be a doll of him?

And is magic capable of stealing it if there is or is it protected from such means of theft?
