JANUARY TEST DRIVE!

Thinking of apping a character but not sure they'll fit in the city walls?

Have no fear, a meme for you is here.

Directions:
  • Use an RNG to choose a location and prompt, or wait for someone else to tag.

  • Post with your character with their name and canon on top!

  • If you'd like, leave contact info for people to get in contact for plotting and other such shenans.

  • Tag around! Make friends. Don't be afraid to chat OOC while tagging.

Locations

1.TRAIN STATION - The place where everyone gets dumped off at. Your first view of Ruby City, complete with informational posters telling you all about where you've ended up.
2. THE BEACH - Lovely year-round, though in the winter months, you're probably not likely to dip your toes in.
3. THE BLACK STALLION - A rather quaint bar. Supposedly, the burgers are great, but you don't see anyone immediately who's willing to serve you. Maybe you're meant to get it yourself.
4. THE OBELISK - The tall monolith in the center of the city marks the gathering place of many events, though right now it seems to be cold and dark.
5. THE CLOCKTOWER - Offering an impressive view of the city, several residents come here to clear their heads, if they don't mind braving the narrow staircase.
6. THE COFFEE JOINT - the front windows are warm and welcoming, and it seems there's always someone friendly enough to fix you a cup when you wander through.
7. THE CATACOMBS - Intrepid, aren't you? Those weird holes may beg exploring, but go too deep and you're going to be in a lot of trouble, considering the viciousness of the creatures held within.
8. THE CITY STREETS - All told, Ruby City is a lovely place, once you get past the fact that several of the buildings look derelict and on the verge of falling down. There's no harm in doing a little sightseeing.
9. THE PARK - You thought it'd be a lovely stroll, but the park is anything but friendly, if those approaching wolf-like creatures are any indication.
10. CHOOSE YOUR OWN - Don't like what we've come up with? Feel like picking your own place? There's a whole host of lovely locations to choose from in the City.

Scenarios

1. NEW ARRIVAL - Step off that train, walk down the street. People usually latch on to newcomers to try and help them out. Even if you look shy, the other residents probably won't be!
2. WATCH TALK - Feeling lost? Disoriented? Don't worry, everyone feels that way on their first day. Fortunately - if the signs at the station are to believed - the watch in your pocket can be used to talk to whoever else might be here.
3. BAD WEATHER - Aw, man. Whether it's snow, or rain, or just plain cold, today was definitely the wrong day to get dumped off in a City in the middle of nowhere.
4. A RUN-IN - Maybe you weren't watching. Maybe they weren't. Either way, you just bumped into someone. Perhaps apologies are in order?
5. HELP, IT HURTS - Clumsy, aren't you? Perhaps wherever the train brought you from wasn't so friendly, or you just tripped and twisted your ankle. Either way, you're in a bit of pain. Hopefully someone will notice your booboos and help patch you up.
6. HUNGRY - It isn't very obvious sometimes that restaurants are what they are, especially in a place like Ruby City. Where can a person go to get a bite to eat around here?
7. MISTAKEN IDENTITY - Hey, there's someone you know! --Or maybe not.
8. BEING FOLLOWED - Maybe you're just being paranoid, or maybe you've got a reason to be afraid. Whatever it is, it feels like there's eyes on you...
9. CURRENT EVENTS - The City is currently overrun with the DESPAIR DISEASE, which means some people are more violent than normal, the overall atmosphere is more dreary than it normally would be, and there's some pretty vicious creatures roaming the streets! Also, there's hardly anything to eat. What a frightening thing!
10. CHOOSE YOUR OWN - Don't like any of these ideas? Feel free to come up with your own!

"Truer words have never been spoken."

The words came from above, where a winged man was sitting perched on the sloped part of the clocktower roof. His glowing eyes had a soft quality to them, but his waving tail was reminiscent of a curious cat.

"Welcome to Ruby City. It only gets weirder from here."
patricided: (this'll be fun | let's go |)

[personal profile] patricided 2015-01-04 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
She spins, hand going immediately for her pistol and levels the sight on his head. She almost feels guilty for reacting quite so violently, but then she registers the glowing eyes and waving tail, and it's only the fact that so far he can talk and hasn't attacked her that keeps her from squeezing the trigger. Not that it gets her to lower the gun any though.

"My my, I guess even here I'll find plenty of work to do."
superstylishsquid: (Excuse you?)

[personal profile] superstylishsquid 2015-01-04 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
His eyes narrow, the light from them turning brighter and harsher. There's the racism he was used to...ahhh, reminders of home.

"Lady, I'm so far out of your league..."

He jumps down to the floor and puts his hands on his hips. His tail hangs in the air behind him, giving off a disdainful impression.

"Good thing for you, too. I don't think a Devil Hunter would really appreciate having to deal with a bunch of pissed off human teenagers."
patricided: (you kidding me | side glance)

[personal profile] patricided 2015-01-04 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
There's an almost noticeable quake in her gun hand. Most demons don't even know her name, let alone that she can likely take them down in the amount of time it takes to apply a fresh coat of lipstick.

"A bunch of pissed off human teenagers? I knew you demons were fond of cults but aren't they a bit young?"
superstylishsquid: (Sorry but you're not funny.)

[personal profile] superstylishsquid 2015-01-04 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
He growls slightly and his tail lashes behind him. A cult? And with the modern connotations of that word, he somehow doubted she just meant a harmless niche religion.

"They're not a cult, they're my friends."

Though maybe he should think about the fact that all of his adult friends weren't human.
patricided: (you kidding me | side glance)

[personal profile] patricided 2015-01-04 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Now she blinks at him. The gun dropping to aim at the stone beneath her feet as her other hand goes to her hip. Friends are not a strictly human concept she knows this, but she's barely even heard Trish use the word so it's throwing her off. At the very least it's gotten her to give him a second look beyond the wings and the tail and the glowing eyes. Sort of, she recognizes he hasn't made a move to actually be a threat yet.

"Don't most demons skip friends and go straight to let me use you?" She's genuinely curious here, he's only the second possibly benevolent demon she's ever met. At least she's not yelling and mocking him like she did with Trish?
superstylishsquid: (Boo.)

[personal profile] superstylishsquid 2015-01-04 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
He continues to scowl, tail swishing in irritation and eyes glowing harshly. This. This was why he used to pretend he wasn't a demon. Why he hadn't even bothered to try to fit in with humans once he returned from his imprisonment on Mallet. Humans thought they knew him, as soon as they saw his horns and his claws and his glowing eyes.

He still wasn't moving to attack, but there was something dangerous in his voice. A deeper tone, as if it were being vaguely distorted by something.

"I'm not most demons. And if you point that gun at everyone here that doesn't look human, you're going to make a lot of enemies, supernatural and otherwise. Most of them good people."
patricided: (guarded | neutral)

[personal profile] patricided 2015-01-13 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay... All that tail swishing and eye glowing was starting to concern her. Like he might lose his patience and then attack, which would be fine it'd give her reason to shoot him. But her pistol remains aimed at the clock tower floor. She couldn't really help thinking that she knew how he was going to act though, she had a great deal of experience backing her expectations.

Not that she can fully stop the shiver that runs up her spine when he talks again. She wasn't scared per se. (Well she'd never admit it if she were anyway.)

"You'll have to forgive me for not taking the word of a demon on what constitutes a good person or not."
superstylishsquid: (Can we not talk about it?)

[personal profile] superstylishsquid 2015-01-17 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"You're convinced to see me as a monster, huh? Well, fine then. Just don't come crying to me when you upset Dante by shooting his alien girlfriend."

His wings beat heavily and carried his feet off the floor, then over the edge of the clocktower. He stopped before flying off, however, and turned to shoot her another glare.

"After all, I'm a demon. It's not like I have morals or a heart, right?"
patricided: (walk away | jobs done | we're done)

[personal profile] patricided 2015-01-17 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
She doesn't say anything just stands there looking very much like he'd just yanked the floor out from under her. She's shaking and it isn't from annoyance this time. That hurt. Hurt in ways she didn't want to think about more than she had to. It's a lot harder to deny when it isn't a question so much as a statement of fact anymore.

Her eyes tracking him as he flew up and over. Turning to keep him in her line of sight.

"So Sparda was just a fluke?" But there's a decided lack of vitriol in her words. Almost like he'd already taken the wind out of her sails even as she tried her best to keep her composure and put herself back together. She wouldn't give him the satisfaction of falling to pieces over a low blow like that.
superstylishsquid: (Can we not talk about it?)

[personal profile] superstylishsquid 2015-01-17 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"Why ask me? I thought you just said you didn't trust the word of a demon on something like that. Go find a human who's run into a lot of demons, I'm sure their opinion is more valid."
patricided: (pouty | what are you thinking | annoyed)

[personal profile] patricided 2015-01-17 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"Because sadly most humans who have any great amount of dealings with demons are as corrupt as any demon is believed to be. ...And all I have is a story even when faced with the son. And I trust Trish, she's a demon."
superstylishsquid: (Sorry but you're not funny.)

[personal profile] superstylishsquid 2015-01-17 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"What about Devil Hunters? I'm sure you guys run into plenty of us. You seem to think you know enough to think you can judge one of us as soon as you meet us, anyway."

He snorts, and somewhere in the distance, thunder rumbles.

"I can't say I ever met Sparda...I was banished and sealed before his rebellion. And as for Trish...you gave her a chance, but me you threaten to shoot on sight, accuse of manipulating teenagers into devoting their lives and souls to serving me and claim I don't know right from wrong because of what I am? What's so different about her that she's worth getting to know before writing off? Is it because she looks like one of you, instead of being the very picture of a humanoid monster like I am?"
patricided: (Default)

[personal profile] patricided 2015-01-22 06:54 am (UTC)(link)
"We don't typically stop to chat with demons when we find them or are hired to get rid of them." And it was true there were very few exceptions. Actually, there was just one: human presence. And even then it was only to trash talk Trish since she couldn't do anything else.

"Trish got a chance with Dante's help." She throws those words back, only mildly concerned about the thunder rumbling in the background. But there's more annoyance in her posture than anything else at having her words thrown back at her. It had nothing to do with her looks as opposed to his. Hell even Dante didn't get a chance just because he looked human. He should just be glad she had the self control enough not to shoot him as she had Dante and Trish.
superstylishsquid: (Can we not talk about it?)

[personal profile] superstylishsquid 2015-01-22 07:11 am (UTC)(link)
Would Dante vouch for him? He couldn't be sure. He'd been willing to be more or less civil with him, but he couldn't exactly claim they were friends. He wasn't even sure if Dante really trusted him, or if he was just waiting for the act to drop.

"And I guess being Dante's former servant doesn't mean much."
patricided: (Default)

[personal profile] patricided 2015-01-22 07:18 am (UTC)(link)
"Dante's never even mentioned you." And there's a calm to her voice that says she finds what he just said highly unbelievable.
superstylishsquid: (Sorry but you're not funny.)

[personal profile] superstylishsquid 2015-01-22 07:25 am (UTC)(link)
He twitches slightly. A low growl slips loose as he turns his head angrily to one side.

"Not surprising. The reason I insisted on winning my freedom from him is because he more or less forgot I existed after he brought me back from Mallet."
patricided: (Default)

[personal profile] patricided 2015-01-22 07:32 am (UTC)(link)
Mallet? The only things Dante came back from Mallet with were a few new weapons. More toys to crowd the walls of the shop and clutter the floor. And Trish but she didn't know about Trish for a while after that, busy as she was with her own work at the time.

"Dante only came back with weapons and a second business partner. I think I would have remembered him picking up a third."
superstylishsquid: (Is that supposed to impress me?)

[personal profile] superstylishsquid 2015-01-22 07:34 am (UTC)(link)
"Who do you think you're looking at?"

He draws his sword and holds it horizontally in front of him, letting her see the distinctive guard of the blade.

"I'm Alastor, the spirit of the electric sword he found there."
patricided: (Default)

[personal profile] patricided 2015-01-22 07:45 am (UTC)(link)
She just gives him the most blank look and she isn't really trying for it either. How does one respond to information like that? She knew Dante's weapons were special, but she hadn't actually spent the hours looking into demonic weaponry as she might have wished to after Temen-ni-Gru.

"Right..."
superstylishsquid: (Sorry but you're not funny.)

[personal profile] superstylishsquid 2015-01-22 07:47 am (UTC)(link)
He returns the sword to his back and crosses his arms.

"Look up Devil Arms sometime, see how they're made. It'll make sense."
patricided: (you kidding me | side glance)

[personal profile] patricided 2015-01-22 07:55 am (UTC)(link)
"I've been meaning to, haven't really had much in the way of free time lately." The last ten or so years have been sort of busy for her thank you very much.
superstylishsquid: (Oh yeah...)

[personal profile] superstylishsquid 2015-01-22 08:08 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, crash course: a Devil Arm is what you get when you seal part or all of a devil's soul into the form of a weapon after they die. I bound my soul to a sword thousands of years ago and got killed, then dumped on Mallet to rust."
patricided: (Default)

[personal profile] patricided 2015-01-22 08:21 am (UTC)(link)
Well that explained a few things she supposed. And she's left just staring at him for a long moment after that. "That explains a few things." And she isn't even referring to him so much as the weirdness that is long periods of time in Dante's shop.
superstylishsquid: (Oh yeah...)

[personal profile] superstylishsquid 2015-01-22 08:30 am (UTC)(link)
"So now do you understand what I meant by him being my former master?"
