Locations

1.TRAIN STATION - The place where everyone gets dumped off at. Your first view of Ruby City, complete with informational posters telling you all about where you've ended up.
2. THE BEACH - Lovely year-round, though in the winter months, you're probably not likely to dip your toes in.
3. THE BLACK STALLION - A rather quaint bar. Supposedly, the burgers are great, but you don't see anyone immediately who's willing to serve you. Maybe you're meant to get it yourself.
4. THE OBELISK - The tall monolith in the center of the city marks the gathering place of many events, though right now it seems to be cold and dark.
5. THE CLOCKTOWER - Offering an impressive view of the city, several residents come here to clear their heads, if they don't mind braving the narrow staircase.
6. THE COFFEE JOINT - the front windows are warm and welcoming, and it seems there's always someone friendly enough to fix you a cup when you wander through.
7. THE CATACOMBS - Intrepid, aren't you? Those weird holes may beg exploring, but go too deep and you're going to be in a lot of trouble, considering the viciousness of the creatures held within.
8. THE CITY STREETS - All told, Ruby City is a lovely place, once you get past the fact that several of the buildings look derelict and on the verge of falling down. There's no harm in doing a little sightseeing.
9. THE PARK - You thought it'd be a lovely stroll, but the park is anything but friendly, if those approaching wolf-like creatures are any indication.
10. CHOOSE YOUR OWN - Don't like what we've come up with? Feel like picking your own place? There's a whole host of lovely locations to choose from in the City.

Scenarios

1. NEW ARRIVAL - Step off that train, walk down the street. People usually latch on to newcomers to try and help them out. Even if you look shy, the other residents probably won't be!
2. WATCH TALK - Feeling lost? Disoriented? Don't worry, everyone feels that way on their first day. Fortunately - if the signs at the station are to believed - the watch in your pocket can be used to talk to whoever else might be here.
3. BAD WEATHER - Aw, man. Whether it's snow, or rain, or just plain cold, today was definitely the wrong day to get dumped off in a City in the middle of nowhere.
4. A RUN-IN - Maybe you weren't watching. Maybe they weren't. Either way, you just bumped into someone. Perhaps apologies are in order?
5. HELP, IT HURTS - Clumsy, aren't you? Perhaps wherever the train brought you from wasn't so friendly, or you just tripped and twisted your ankle. Either way, you're in a bit of pain. Hopefully someone will notice your booboos and help patch you up.
6. HUNGRY - It isn't very obvious sometimes that restaurants are what they are, especially in a place like Ruby City. Where can a person go to get a bite to eat around here?
7. MISTAKEN IDENTITY - Hey, there's someone you know! --Or maybe not.
8. BEING FOLLOWED - Maybe you're just being paranoid, or maybe you've got a reason to be afraid. Whatever it is, it feels like there's eyes on you...
9. CURRENT EVENTS - The City is currently overrun with the DESPAIR DISEASE, which means some people are more violent than normal, the overall atmosphere is more dreary than it normally would be, and there's some pretty vicious creatures roaming the streets! Also, there's hardly anything to eat. What a frightening thing!
10. CHOOSE YOUR OWN - Don't like any of these ideas? Feel free to come up with your own!

[Oh wait, is she not supposed to let him know that? Or maybe he does already? These mixed timelines are giving her a headache...]

I do, actually. You're in Ruby City, it's a place that takes people from different points in time and keeps them captive in here. What's the last thing you remember, dear?

[Granted, none of those memories will include her, something that pangs her even without actually knowing the boy, but she wants to help him all the same.]

[The I know gives Harry pause but he doesn't draw attention to it. He instead listens to her explanation and answers her question as vague as possible. If she is his mother, she'll know what he means and if not, then no harm done.]

I was on a train. It was my first year at boarding school and I was on my way back...for the summer holidays. [The word home was purposefully not said.]

[Oh, that hurts a little; he's already school age. She wonders how much he knows about them, both her and James, if her family took him in or James'. Maybe her parents?]

You can call it Hogwarts here sweetheart, there's plenty of muggles here who openly know about magic. How do you like school so far? What was your favorite class?

[She would ask about his house but honestly she'd be fine with whatever he ended up in, even Slytherin.]

If you don't mind my asking...who are you living with?

Oh, okay. [That was a little surprising and he looks confused.] But doesn't that break the law? Like how we're not meant to use magic outside of school.

[He digs in his pocket and finds the note Professor McGonagall gave him before he boarded the Hogwarts Express, handing it to Lily. She'd have seen one before but he was making a point. He also uses it to ignore her question. He didn't really have a favourite. Just a worst.]

I'll answer that after you tell me why you're asking. [He was still confused how she knew him so he wasn't going to rub in her face that he was dead if she didn't know.]

[She smiles a little at that; he may look a lot more like James, but he at least doesn't seem to have a complete and utter disregard for the rules. She glances down at the paper and sees McGonagall's familiar scrawl; she remembers getting a similar letter at the end her fifth year, when she was still underage.]

Normally yes, but for some reason the Ministry has no access to this place. That rule was meant for your safety above all else, but I promise you, you won't be punished for using or talking about magic here.

[Still clutching the paper in one hand, she sighs a bit. If they're going to break the rules, what's one more? Besides, Remus and Sirius had told her about a time long after her and her future, so admitting it couldn't hurt the boy, at least she didn't think so.]

Well, I'm...I'm you mum, right? If I can't be a part of your life, I'd at least like to hear about it.

[Harry couldn't believe his ears. She knew she was his mum. Also appeared as though she knew what was in store for her future. So he decided to tell her what he knew.]

There's not much to tell. I live with Aunt Petunia, Uncle Vernon and Dudley when I'm not at Hogwarts.

You live with Tuney, not my paren--er, your grandparents? She went and married Vernon then, I'm so sorry to hear it...he was always a bit unpleasant. And Dudley is...?

[It's beyond strange, hearing about the future of her son, a future she plays no part in. She wants to reach out and touch him but she's pretty sure it'd just make him uncomfortable. How can you miss someone you don't even know?]

I'm so sorry Harry. I would have been there if I could. Tun--Aunt Petunia, she wasn't too bad when she took you to get your school suppplies at Diagon then? I know she can be a bit rude when it comes to magic, but it was just hard on her when we were children. She's never really gotten over it, at least not as far as I know.

Aunt Petunia? In Diagon Alley? Are you kidding me?

[It might not be the nicest words or tone but Henry couldn't believe what he was hearing.] Why would they set foot there? I think a bit rude is an understatement when it comes to the Dursleys and magic.

Oh and Dudley is their son, my cousin.

[Lily's mouth forms a thin line when she hears how Harry talks about his aunt and uncle; it doesn't take a genius to read between the lines there.]

I see. Well, I'll be sure to have a few words with your aunt when I get home then.

[Yeah, because talking to your sister about the mistreatment of your future child isn't going to make you seem any more crazy Lily. Good luck with that.]

Well, if they didn't take you dear, who did? Please tell me you didn't have to go to Diagon alone.

[Good luck with that indeed, Mum. Harry doesn't say anything about that but does answer her question.]

Oh, Hagrid took me. Showed me everything on my eleventh birthday. It was the best birthday ever.

Hagrid, the gamekeeper? [She smiled at that; she remembered Hagrid from school, though she couldn't say they were incredibly close. Still, she remembered that he was a kind man, and she couldn't help but feel appreciative of him, even with this future act.] Well, I'm glad you had someone to take you. Diagon can be intimidating and wonderful all at once, and it's easy to get lost.

Tell me about your House, your classes, your friends, please. I want to...to actually know about you. I'll even trade you, question for a question, anything you want to know.

Yeah. He turned up on my birthday, told me I was a wizard, and then later on we went to Diagon Alley together.

[Harry smiled, really happy to have this chance to talk to his mother and not just see her through the Mirror.]

What do you want to know first? I'm in Gryffindor. I'm on the Quidditch team as Seeker. My best friends are Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. But I have others too.

[He's not sure what to ask so he doesn't. He just grins.]

[She beams, just feeling so prideful and happy looking at him.]

Gryffindor, well done, same house as...well, as your father and I. [Still weird, calling James a father, but whatever.] Quidditch, already? You can't be more than a first year though, can you? Suppose you're more like James then, unless you've suddenly found a passion for potions. Is school any fun? Well, as much fun as books and studying can be anyway. Are the subjects hard for you, what do you think of magic?

[She likes hearing about his friends, seeing him excited instead of skeptical is comforting in it's own way. She remembers being a first year, new to magic, new to everything and just so ready to start it all.] They sound lovely, I wish I could meet them. Are they in Gryffindor too with you or are they in different houses?
