Locations

1.TRAIN STATION - The place where everyone gets dumped off at. Your first view of Ruby City, complete with informational posters telling you all about where you've ended up.
2. THE BEACH - Lovely year-round, though in the winter months, you're probably not likely to dip your toes in.
3. THE BLACK STALLION - A rather quaint bar. Supposedly, the burgers are great, but you don't see anyone immediately who's willing to serve you. Maybe you're meant to get it yourself.
4. THE OBELISK - The tall monolith in the center of the city marks the gathering place of many events, though right now it seems to be cold and dark.
5. THE CLOCKTOWER - Offering an impressive view of the city, several residents come here to clear their heads, if they don't mind braving the narrow staircase.
6. THE COFFEE JOINT - the front windows are warm and welcoming, and it seems there's always someone friendly enough to fix you a cup when you wander through.
7. THE CATACOMBS - Intrepid, aren't you? Those weird holes may beg exploring, but go too deep and you're going to be in a lot of trouble, considering the viciousness of the creatures held within.
8. THE CITY STREETS - All told, Ruby City is a lovely place, once you get past the fact that several of the buildings look derelict and on the verge of falling down. There's no harm in doing a little sightseeing.
9. THE PARK - You thought it'd be a lovely stroll, but the park is anything but friendly, if those approaching wolf-like creatures are any indication.
10. CHOOSE YOUR OWN - Don't like what we've come up with? Feel like picking your own place? There's a whole host of lovely locations to choose from in the City.


Scenarios


1. NEW ARRIVAL - Step off that train, walk down the street. People usually latch on to newcomers to try and help them out. Even if you look shy, the other residents probably won't be!
2. WATCH TALK - Feeling lost? Disoriented? Don't worry, everyone feels that way on their first day. Fortunately - if the signs at the station are to believed - the watch in your pocket can be used to talk to whoever else might be here.
3. BAD WEATHER - Aw, man. Whether it's snow, or rain, or just plain cold, today was definitely the wrong day to get dumped off in a City in the middle of nowhere.
4. A RUN-IN - Maybe you weren't watching. Maybe they weren't. Either way, you just bumped into someone. Perhaps apologies are in order?
5. HELP, IT HURTS - Clumsy, aren't you? Perhaps wherever the train brought you from wasn't so friendly, or you just tripped and twisted your ankle. Either way, you're in a bit of pain. Hopefully someone will notice your booboos and help patch you up.
6. HUNGRY - It isn't very obvious sometimes that restaurants are what they are, especially in a place like Ruby City. Where can a person go to get a bite to eat around here?
7. MISTAKEN IDENTITY - Hey, there's someone you know! --Or maybe not.
8. BEING FOLLOWED - Maybe you're just being paranoid, or maybe you've got a reason to be afraid. Whatever it is, it feels like there's eyes on you...
9. CURRENT EVENTS - The City is currently overrun with the DESPAIR DISEASE, which means some people are more violent than normal, the overall atmosphere is more dreary than it normally would be, and there's some pretty vicious creatures roaming the streets! Also, there's hardly anything to eat. What a frightening thing!
10. CHOOSE YOUR OWN - Don't like any of these ideas? Feel free to come up with your own!

"Yes, I am new." She took his hand in hers. If this were any other man, she would half-expect them to kiss her hand. However this one seemed a little too nervous to expect that from. So instead, she shook it gently and pulled it away.

"La Muerte," She gave him a smile that soon fell when he said that she was stuck here. "What do you mean I'm stuck here?"

Maurice was surprised to find her hand cold in his. Which was sort of silly considering what she resembled, but he was surprised anyway. Once they had reclaimed their respective hands, he went back to wringing his.

The vampire sighed. "Just about everybody here walked offa that train. You can follow the tracks if you want, but they don't go anywhere." There was just ocean, ocean, and more ocean. "It's not all bad! Nothin' costs any money and nobody I know personally has died from monster attacks!"

La Muerte listened to Maurice's little explanation. It didn't make that fact that she was apparently stuck here much better. For a brief moment the flames of her candles grew brighter. It didn't matter how nice it was here, she was away from her precious realm. Running an endless fiesta was hard work.

But it really wasn't this poor little soul's fault. He already seemed nervous without her being angry. She gave a sigh and curbed her anger for the moment. She forced a smile.

"It sounds like a lovely place, Maurice." Monster attacks and all. More dead people meant more people in her realm.

The undead man recoiled ever so slightly when La Muerte's flames flickered. She had just warned him!

"You're takin' this a lot better than most people...I could show you around!" There you go, Hutch, make those friendships! Talk to those randomly appearing skeleton women! You're a winner!

Oh yes, she assumed she was taking this better than most, but that was because she had dealt with far worse before. Of course, far worse involved Xibalba's cheating. At this point, there was only so much she could really be angry about. Perhaps that's what happens when you're a few eons old.

"I would love that," She offered her arm to Maurice. He would probably be too shy to take it, but she wanted to see what he would do.

She was right to think that. When the slender arm was offered, Maurice withdrew--but only just so. He wasn't...great...at dealing with girls. Women. Those types of creatures. Lots of bad past experiences including one that landed him in the deathly shape he was in. But as the new year rolled over, he found himself just a little bolder.

Giving a tour to a mysterious, beautiful woman was nowhere near as scary as asking out Hanna Cross.

He sure as hell wasn't going to make eye-contact though. Maurice took her arm as best he knew how and began to walk her down the street.

"There's this shop that pops up every once in a while that has stuff from other worlds in it. Unless somebody here has set up some kinda business, everything's free...except for that shop. You have to trade weird stuff...there!"

He pointed to an empty spot between two buildings.

"That's one of the places it shows up."

La Muerte giggled as he took her but still avoided eye contact. Aye, he was so nervous! Maybe he'd be more comfortable if she kept the conversation about the city.

"And what kind of 'weird stuff' do they ask you to trade?" she asked, eyeing the empty spot between buildings. The idea of a shop that traded strange things and popped up out of nowhere was intriguing. Perhaps she would give it a try if it showed up while she was here. That was, if she decided to stay here long enough.

[toothaches]

"Well...I found a backpack but the cost was a robin's egg shell. Like the bird. You dump the stuff in this donations box near the front. I don't know what happens if you just walk out with something, but I'm not gonna try and find out."

Maurice was a good, law abiding citizen! And a coward.

"This place does some pretty twisted stuff...I mean, Hanna and I found an arm in the street once. Just an arm! Hangin' out in the middle of the festival!"

A robins egg? It didn't sound too hard to find though. It was a strange form of payment, yes, but she had seen much stranger in her years. "And that's very good, you didn't walk out with it." She gave him a little pat on his arm. He was such a little sweetie. She made a mental note to give him extra care once he entered her domain.

Her eyes light up at the mention of the arm, though. "An arm? Did you give it back to their owner? I'm sure they missed it."

"Errrrr, no, we didn't touch it. We were on a sort of errand at the time." Maurice can't help but feel (and look) guilty now. Of COURSE he should have given it back to its owner.

Time for a distraction!

He pointed to the tall red spire for which the city was named. "You see that thing? I heard it exploded once and people got hurt."

She let out a soft laugh at the obvious look of guilt on her new guide. She didn't mean to make him feel guilty, but it was nice to know that he had a bit of a conscience. She had just met this cute little creature, but she knew his heart was in the right place.

Plus, she figured that mystery person would get their arm back anyways at some point. Maybe not when they were living, but perhaps in the afterlife.

"Really?" She looked over the large pillar in front of her. It really was a lovely color, wasn't it? Though there was something different about it. Something perhaps sinister? No this was nothing like Xibabla's energy that was both sinister yet charming. This was... very different. Maybe sinister was the wrong word to use here.

She tilted her head, and peered up at the monument from beyond the brim of her large hat. "Do you know what brought it back here?"

[toothaches]

"Well...folks said they put it together but it's so big I don't see how they coulda...so maybe only parts of it came off?"

He wondered that aloud more to himself than to La Muerte.

"I've been here a long time...where are you from?"

"They did a very good job if they did," she mused. The pillar seemed almost seamless in its construction. It was almost impossible to think of it falling apart in the first place.

She glanced down at her companion a this question. Oh, that was a fun one to answer. She let a small smile tug at the corner of her mouth. "Oh, I come from somewhere very far from here, but it's where most people tend to go."

The vampire slowly tilted his head. Well that was...a cryptic answer. He had been wondering why she looked like a skeleton for a good twenty minutes but that's not really something you can ask about. You can't just say, excuse me senora, why do you look like a grateful dead poster?

"Oh...well. I hope you get to go back home soon! I'm from Texas. Which is also pretty far away."

But nobody went to Dogtrot. Nobody.
