RUMOR WAR EVENT ONE - FAQ RECAP

RUMOR WAR EVENT
Despair Disease

Hello!

First and foremost, thank you very much for all of your questions and eager participation in the plotting for the January 20th event!

Because of the questions that were received, we'd like to provide a very quick FAQ to re-cap some important points that may be relevant to you and yours.

Please click the cut!

Is this event very time sensitive/will it prevent backtags (and should I be worried if I am busy during the event?)

The only things that have to be finished by the end of the event are the Cure/Murder Records in the Main Event Log. This means that you can backtag damn well into next year for all we care, but no cure or murder reports that are tagged into the Cure/Murder records after the event's end will be counted. Even if you haven't finished those threads (or are handwaving the giving of the cure or the murder), please make sure you make note of your curing/murdering in the log appropriately before the end of the event.

Will characters experiencing the disease also experience other symptoms of illness?

Yes! This should have been more thoroughly explained and for that, your "trusty" event mod apologises. The despair disease does come with symptoms of regular fevers such as chills, nausea, very high fever (yes, your character may absolutely realise that these fevers seem too high for human characters to function with, but the fever itself may not impair function), headache, and other assorted general gross-cold-symptom.

If your character has a stronger immune system, they may be resistant to the physical symptoms of the disease. Weaker characters may be more affected by the sickness.

Will characters be able to fight the symptoms of Despair?

No. Because the event is taking place in a simulation, the virus is effectively being "downloaded" and the only "antivirus" is in the cure phials. They will be able to fight the physical symptoms of fever if they are stronger, however.

What happens if a character tries to destroy a Kiosk or Vending Machine?

If a machine is destroyed it will appear broken for three seconds before reverting to its original state in a glitch like a video game. In addition, a particularly annoying voice will say "that's against the rules!" And the perpetrator may find themselves missing 1-2 Prize Cards.

Yes, we are absolutely serious.

When a character is cured, can they contract the disease or another strain of the disease again?

Nope. When they are cured, the cure phials are full of an "antivirus" that will prevent them from becoming sick again.

Will characters be able to hunt for food outside the city walls, and do the despair disease effects extend to animals in and out of the city?

Yes, they will absolutely be able to hunt, and the disease cannot affect anyone but Player Characters! Your event mod apologises for not including it in the official write up. It was there originally, but was lost in revisions, unfortunately.

Does the disease affect physical or magical strength?

The disease only affects physical strength as much as a fever would. Nothing in the city will remove any supernatural or extraordinary power that characters may have during this event.

Is the scarcity of food going to be sudden?

Yes. Everything will be fine until January 20th.

How is the disease spread?

Because this is a simulation, proximity as well as touching can spread the disease.

Are corpses contagious?

Nope.

Will instructions be given by NPCs about how to use the cures?

No, but just like real life OTC and prescription medicines, there will be instructions on the label.

Will NPCs physically be intervening?

No. NPCs are restricted by Ikaros's rules and are only allowed to use the power of influence during Rumor War events.

Will infected characters be required to take dangerous action?

No. While they will lose remorse if they cause trouble or kill while sick, they will not necessarily be dangerous or violent unless it is already something they do. For instance, the character Bowser is naturally a bully character and the character Loki is naturally a trickster. However, a pacifist character such as Epsilon might not take dangerous action unprompted.

Is my non-human character allowed to be infected?

Yes. Anyone is capable of becoming infected in the simulation.
