Well, then I can answer some questions since in SoCal we have a somewhat similar student population, depending where you are in Texas.

My mom stepped in when they realized I was having vision problems. Now I'm like you and devour text.

Sounds good; it should be. I live right outside of Dallas, but thankfully, am not going to be in Dallas ISD. If you have been watching the news any, they're still messed up in the higher ranks and spending way too much money on people who are resigning/quitting/being fired. So many are angry about that.

Oh, that is great to hear! That's something I've vowed to do as a teacher: not mention medicine unless that is the only thing left that might help.

I've got like... six districts in my immediate vicinity and they all vary from amazing to awful. So it really becomes a "which one do you want to discuss?"

My mom is actually a special education teacher so she's seen all sorts of things!

Oh, wow. That is a lot. Are districts usually smaller out there? I only have two near me in my county before you get to Dallas County, and thus, DISD.

Oh, that is amazing! I've always been awed by special education teachers. No teacher position is easy, but it takes a lot more time, dedication, and compassion to go in that direction. Kudos to her!

Much smaller! There's three districts in the city I live in alone. Two for the elementary/middle schools and one for the high schools. Though that isn't the case for all the cities. But California is very different in that regard.

She's been doing it for 37 years, from mild to severe. So thank you for the kudos, I'll send them her way :D

Yeah, that really is different! In the school district I went to while growing up, it covered everything from preschools that were run by the state all the way up to high school and career centers/technical schools for teenagers. The only things they really don’t cover are privately run schools and colleges—but they have their own “districts”.

And you’re welcome! She’s amazing!

Well, California has "Union" vs. "Unified." Unified is when the school district covers Pre-K to Highschool and technical schools, Union is when the district is only Pre-K to middle-school OR high school, not one and the same.

Interesting. I'm going to have to research more into this!

I can tell you all about it, if you like as you get further into your credential program!

I would love that!
