Locations

1.TRAIN STATION - The place where everyone gets dumped off at. Your first view of Ruby City, complete with informational posters telling you all about where you've ended up.
2. THE BEACH - Lovely year-round, though in the winter months, you're probably not likely to dip your toes in.
3. THE BLACK STALLION - A rather quaint bar. Supposedly, the burgers are great, but you don't see anyone immediately who's willing to serve you. Maybe you're meant to get it yourself.
4. THE OBELISK - The tall monolith in the center of the city marks the gathering place of many events, though right now it seems to be cold and dark.
5. THE CLOCKTOWER - Offering an impressive view of the city, several residents come here to clear their heads, if they don't mind braving the narrow staircase.
6. THE COFFEE JOINT - the front windows are warm and welcoming, and it seems there's always someone friendly enough to fix you a cup when you wander through.
7. THE CATACOMBS - Intrepid, aren't you? Those weird holes may beg exploring, but go too deep and you're going to be in a lot of trouble, considering the viciousness of the creatures held within.
8. THE CITY STREETS - All told, Ruby City is a lovely place, once you get past the fact that several of the buildings look derelict and on the verge of falling down. There's no harm in doing a little sightseeing.
9. THE PARK - You thought it'd be a lovely stroll, but the park is anything but friendly, if those approaching wolf-like creatures are any indication.
10. CHOOSE YOUR OWN - Don't like what we've come up with? Feel like picking your own place? There's a whole host of lovely locations to choose from in the City.

Scenarios

1. NEW ARRIVAL - Step off that train, walk down the street. People usually latch on to newcomers to try and help them out. Even if you look shy, the other residents probably won't be!
2. WATCH TALK - Feeling lost? Disoriented? Don't worry, everyone feels that way on their first day. Fortunately - if the signs at the station are to believed - the watch in your pocket can be used to talk to whoever else might be here.
3. BAD WEATHER - Aw, man. Whether it's snow, or rain, or just plain cold, today was definitely the wrong day to get dumped off in a City in the middle of nowhere.
4. A RUN-IN - Maybe you weren't watching. Maybe they weren't. Either way, you just bumped into someone. Perhaps apologies are in order?
5. HELP, IT HURTS - Clumsy, aren't you? Perhaps wherever the train brought you from wasn't so friendly, or you just tripped and twisted your ankle. Either way, you're in a bit of pain. Hopefully someone will notice your booboos and help patch you up.
6. HUNGRY - It isn't very obvious sometimes that restaurants are what they are, especially in a place like Ruby City. Where can a person go to get a bite to eat around here?
7. MISTAKEN IDENTITY - Hey, there's someone you know! --Or maybe not.
8. BEING FOLLOWED - Maybe you're just being paranoid, or maybe you've got a reason to be afraid. Whatever it is, it feels like there's eyes on you...
9. CURRENT EVENTS - None at the moment, but feel free to look through our event tag!
10. CHOOSE YOUR OWN - Don't like any of these ideas? Feel free to come up with your own!

_{[He cringes back. He almost predicted the kid's response word for word. He lifts his hands to try and calm Steven down.]}

I know, I know, but we can't! There's weird magic stuff happening here and that's just how it is. It's not a horrible place though.

The Gems. I need to find them!

_{[Momentary translation error. Input: The Gems. Register: JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS. This kid is obviously a celebrity. Thanks, beergoggles. Maurice shakes his head to clear away that dumb starstruck look.]}

Whatever's happening back home will wait for you. People say time freezes whenever you're, uh, abducted I guess would be th' right word. And when you go back, it's like you never left. Weird time-travel stuff. You gotta breathe, man!

Time...freezes?

[ Whaaaat?
Is this...a Gem thing, maybe? Did the ship actually not crash? Or...is this like mom's room? Where the little pink whale--
Nononono, don't get distracted, Steven!]

I can't wait! I can't stay here! [ He's very much freaking out. So much happened and he hasn't caught a break yet. ] Please! You gotta help me find a way back!

_{[Steven's panic is a little infectious and Maurice does the only thing he can think of--putting his big clawed hands on the kid's shoulders and giving him a little shake.]}

You gotta calm down, man, there's nothin' we can do but wait till the weird time train picks us up again. I'd send you back in a heartbeat if I knew how. What were you doing when you got here?

Aaaaaaa [ Don't scramble his brains more than that this whole thing is already doing!

Calm down, Steven. It's okay. It's gonna be okay. Breathe. You're gonna find the Gems, and you're all gonna find the train, then you're all gonna go home. Yeah. ]

Huh, I was...

[ ...a lot of stuff happened, and now that he's thinking about for a second, now that he has a moment to think about it.

Whoa. Oh man. Oh man. ]

_{[Maurice drops his hands by his side and wishes that Steven was not a small baby child because the only way he knows how to deal with this kind of thing is to take people out for drinks.]}

Do you wanna sit down? There's a bench over there...

[ He doesn't...know. What to do. He doesn't know where he is, and he's being told he might not go back, and weird time stuff, and everything that happened, and the ship, and the city, and the Gems aren't here and... ]

Y-yeah. Okay.

_{[The dead man leads Steven over to a bench outside what used to be the old flower shop before shrugging off his guitar and sitting down on the far end.]}

I know this is a lot to take in...hah, I spent my first day hiding under a bench. So you're doing pretty good!

[ He sits on the bench, looking down at his legs.

You don't even know the half of it, Maurice. This kid's got a lot on his mind. ]

I...guess. [ He's a bit distracted now. At least he's not freaking out, right? ]

_{[Maurice holds his guitar in his lap and stares out across the way. Steven's reflection is clear in the other shop window but Maurice's is nowhere to be seen. He's trying to think of the other good points to this place a kid might like. He doesn't want to get into the horror terror territory yet.]}

Hey, guess what, you can live anywhere you like here! And there's a place that gives out free muffins daily.

[ He's barely listening at this point. Thinking about the events of the earlier night is a little too much for someone so young, and now he's stranded in some weird place, brought over by some magical disappearing train, and the Gems are nowhere to be found. How is he suppose to go home? Is it all really over? Are the Gems around here somewhere?

He's quiet, trying to find an answer, trying to think of a way to get out of this and just go home, but he can't. ]

_{[The vampire's strained grin fades when Steven doesn't respond. He can't really blame him. Maybe he doesn't need somebody talking his ear off right now. Maybe it's him who needs an ear. Maurice puffs out a sigh and drags his claws across the guitar strings before starting to pluck out a random song.]}

[ Buck up, Steven. Everything ended up okay, right? They won, and everything turned out better. Some new weird thing just happened, and now he just needs to find a way home! And the Gem are probably gonna show up real soon. Yeah, he can-

He looks over at Maurice when starts playing, snapped out of his train of thought. ]

_{[He continues to play--a chunk of an old Journey song. It feels so weird that being away from music for so long has made him start forgetting even his favorite songs. This is the only way to keep them alive.]}
