March Test Drive!

Thinking of apping a character but not sure they'll fit in the city walls?

Have no fear, a meme for you is here.

Directions:
  • Use an RNG to choose a location and prompt, or wait for someone else to tag.

  • Post with your character with their name and canon on top!

  • If you'd like, leave contact info for people to get in contact for plotting and other such shenans.

  • Tag around! Make friends. Don't be afraid to chat OOC while tagging.

Locations

1.TRAIN STATION - The place where everyone gets dumped off at. Your first view of Ruby City, complete with informational posters telling you all about where you've ended up.
2. THE BEACH - Lovely year-round, though in the winter months, you're probably not likely to dip your toes in.
3. THE BLACK STALLION - A rather quaint bar. Supposedly, the burgers are great, but you don't see anyone immediately who's willing to serve you. Maybe you're meant to get it yourself.
4. THE OBELISK - The tall monolith in the center of the city marks the gathering place of many events, though right now it seems to be cold and dark.
5. THE CLOCKTOWER - Offering an impressive view of the city, several residents come here to clear their heads, if they don't mind braving the narrow staircase.
6. THE COFFEE JOINT - the front windows are warm and welcoming, and it seems there's always someone friendly enough to fix you a cup when you wander through.
7. THE CATACOMBS - Intrepid, aren't you? Those weird holes may beg exploring, but go too deep and you're going to be in a lot of trouble, considering the viciousness of the creatures held within.
8. THE CITY STREETS - All told, Ruby City is a lovely place, once you get past the fact that several of the buildings look derelict and on the verge of falling down. There's no harm in doing a little sightseeing.
9. THE PARK - You thought it'd be a lovely stroll, but the park is anything but friendly, if those approaching wolf-like creatures are any indication.
10. CHOOSE YOUR OWN - Don't like what we've come up with? Feel like picking your own place? There's a whole host of lovely locations to choose from in the City.

Scenarios

1. NEW ARRIVAL - Step off that train, walk down the street. People usually latch on to newcomers to try and help them out. Even if you look shy, the other residents probably won't be!
2. WATCH TALK - Feeling lost? Disoriented? Don't worry, everyone feels that way on their first day. Fortunately - if the signs at the station are to believed - the watch in your pocket can be used to talk to whoever else might be here.
3. BAD WEATHER - Aw, man. Whether it's snow, or rain, or just plain cold, today was definitely the wrong day to get dumped off in a City in the middle of nowhere.
4. A RUN-IN - Maybe you weren't watching. Maybe they weren't. Either way, you just bumped into someone. Perhaps apologies are in order?
5. HELP, IT HURTS - Clumsy, aren't you? Perhaps wherever the train brought you from wasn't so friendly, or you just tripped and twisted your ankle. Either way, you're in a bit of pain. Hopefully someone will notice your booboos and help patch you up.
6. HUNGRY - It isn't very obvious sometimes that restaurants are what they are, especially in a place like Ruby City. Where can a person go to get a bite to eat around here?
7. MISTAKEN IDENTITY - Hey, there's someone you know! --Or maybe not.
8. BEING FOLLOWED - Maybe you're just being paranoid, or maybe you've got a reason to be afraid. Whatever it is, it feels like there's eyes on you...
9. CURRENT EVENTS - None at the moment, but feel free to look through our event tag!
10. CHOOSE YOUR OWN - Don't like any of these ideas? Feel free to come up with your own!

His eyes when he looks at her are frightened for a moment, and then settle into a distrust that attempts to be haughty and prideful and speaks of nothing more than a sharp will to not look as helpless and frightened and weak as he feels. His mind, if she reaches out towards it, is a mess, torn open and touched by Darkness, an open wound left to fester without stitches or cosmetics to hide it, almost painful to look at.

"Who are you?" She looks familiar, beyond clearly being an Elf - Noldorin, he thinks, at least partly, and a touch Vanyarin blood. Something that looks Telerin, too. But no face that he has seen before, and he can see the light of the trees in her eyes. Why does he show me your vision for a vision it has to be, this whole place has to be an illusion. What trick is it that brought you forward?

"Most now call me 'Galadriel,'" she says, knowing well that that name is not likely to hold any meaning for him- for she's becoming more certain in her suspicions. "But I suspect the name to offer you is 'Artanis.'"

She watches his face carefully, studying his expression. So similar to Aredhel's and yet so different. Perhaps if he smiled the resemblance would be better; her cousin was always smiling in her memories.

His eyes widen in clear recognition, and he wavers - to take a step forward or back, more figuratively than literally. How far am I gone? Too far, is the immediate answer - the moment that he was captured, it was over, in a way. Even if he through some miracle (like if this truly is no illusion...) - even if through some miracle he should not betray the city to the Enemy, he's still been captured and nobody will trust him if they know.

In the end, he stays, and simply answers. Illusion or not - if it is one, he's not giving up new information, and if not - well, if she is who she claims to be, she probably at least guesses who he is. He's been told that he resembles his mother often enough. "Maeglin." There is another name, too, a small, private treasure that his mother gave to him along with her language, one that he loved and now can find no joy in anymore for how Morgoth and his underlings have twisted it to mock him, but he will not give that to her. It is doubtful that she would even know it, anyway. "Maeglin" she should know if any news of the Nirnaeth reached her, at least.

"I thought as much. You bear your mother a great resemblance." Seeing him now, it was hard to believe what he had done- or will do. He was so very young, so very fragile looking, and she found herself moved to pity, more than anything else.

Again, she holds out her cloak to him. "Please accept it- for her sake."

"I have been told so." He almost flinches at his own words (your cheekbones a bit more like this a sharp pain on his cheek as the tip of a knife breaks the skin way too close to his eye, and he forces himself to stay still for fear of a movement bringing the blade too close to his eye and I could paint your hair... only for a little bit... laughter, dark and cruel, and he shivers, closing his eyes against memories of stories from long ago ("Mother, you can tell me the scary stories as well, now, I am old enough!" and she had, had told him of ice and cold, of blood on the beach ...and of a friend more dead than alive that her brother brought back from Morgoth's claws) the must amusing memories, I could reenact them, what do you think? and that laughter again) for his mother is not the only relative whom he has been told he resembles, even though the circumstances and intent were so very different.

He bites his lip hard, stifling the flinch and trying to straighten a bit instead, trying to pull back into himself, close off... but still accepting the cloak and pulling it tightly around himself in hopes of managing to do so without the worse injuries and also the tattoos on his body becoming visible, for different reasons.

Her eyes flit quickly over whatever injuries are visible to her before settling back on Maeglin's face. "I am a healer. If you would allow it, I would tend to your wounds."

She doesn't ask where he received them. She doesn't have to. It's written all over his face, easily read by one who knows his history.

There is hesitation in his eyes - they will heal anyway, with time and rest and food, and he doesn't know her beyond name and stories. And if this is not reality, what will accepting mean?

But at the same time, he doesn't know this place, and time and rest and food might not be gained that easily. So he inclines his head, accepting her offer, though his eyes stay trained on her. "Where?" Surely not here, in the middle of the street.

“I have been staying not far from here, in a house procured by my daughter for our use. If you would be comfortable there, you are welcome. If not… I believe there is a clinic not far from here.” She doesn’t work there- not yet, she probably should get around to volunteering her services- but she can’t imagine they would turn away an injured man.

"I am hardly injured." Nothing that will not heal by itself, at least, his body is as unharmed as one can be coming from where he just was, probably.

So a place made for the sick is out. Just - if Artanis's daughter procured this house, who will be there? "Who resides there with you and your daughter?"
