April Test Drive

Thinking of apping a character but not sure they'll fit in the city walls?

Locations

1.TRAIN STATION - The place where everyone gets dumped off at. Your first view of Ruby City, complete with informational posters telling you all about where you've ended up.
2. THE BEACH - Lovely year-round, though in the winter months, you're probably not likely to dip your toes in.
3. THE BLACK STALLION - A rather quaint bar. Supposedly, the burgers are great, but you don't see anyone immediately who's willing to serve you. Maybe you're meant to get it yourself.
4. THE OBELISK - The tall monolith in the center of the city marks the gathering place of many events, though right now it seems to be cold and dark.
5. THE CLOCKTOWER - Offering an impressive view of the city, several residents come here to clear their heads, if they don't mind braving the narrow staircase.
6. THE COFFEE JOINT - the front windows are warm and welcoming, and it seems there's always someone friendly enough to fix you a cup when you wander through.
7. THE CATACOMBS - Intrepid, aren't you? Those weird holes may beg exploring, but go too deep and you're going to be in a lot of trouble, considering the viciousness of the creatures held within.
8. THE CITY STREETS - All told, Ruby City is a lovely place, once you get past the fact that several of the buildings look derelict and on the verge of falling down. There's no harm in doing a little sightseeing.
9. THE PARK - You thought it'd be a lovely stroll, but the park is anything but friendly, if those approaching wolf-like creatures are any indication.
10. CHOOSE YOUR OWN - Don't like what we've come up with? Feel like picking your own place? There's a whole host of lovely locations to choose from in the City.

Scenarios

1. NEW ARRIVAL - Step off that train, walk down the street. People usually latch on to newcomers to try and help them out. Even if you look shy, the other residents probably won't be!
2. WATCH TALK - Feeling lost? Disoriented? Don't worry, everyone feels that way on their first day. Fortunately - if the signs at the station are to believed - the watch in your pocket can be used to talk to whoever else might be here.
3. BAD WEATHER - Aw, man. Whether it's snow, or rain, or just plain cold, today was definitely the wrong day to get dumped off in a City in the middle of nowhere.
4. A RUN-IN - Maybe you weren't watching. Maybe they weren't. Either way, you just bumped into someone. Perhaps apologies are in order?
5. HELP, IT HURTS - Clumsy, aren't you? Perhaps wherever the train brought you from wasn't so friendly, or you just tripped and twisted your ankle. Either way, you're in a bit of pain. Hopefully someone will notice your booboos and help patch you up.
6. HUNGRY - It isn't very obvious sometimes that restaurants are what they are, especially in a place like Ruby City. Where can a person go to get a bite to eat around here?
7. MISTAKEN IDENTITY - Hey, there's someone you know! --Or maybe not.
8. BEING FOLLOWED - Maybe you're just being paranoid, or maybe you've got a reason to be afraid. Whatever it is, it feels like there's eyes on you...
9. CURRENT EVENTS - None at the moment, but feel free to look through our event tag!
10. CHOOSE YOUR OWN - Don't like any of these ideas? Feel free to come up with your own!

[ Option 1-1 | Action ]

[ Artemis steps off the train with his usual lack of grace. He spares a single glance for the departing mode of transport before looking around at where he was. He hadn't expected this, nor factored it into his plans but considering the outcome of his plans were outside of his control, he realises there is nothing else to do but wait.

He takes a tentative step forward, as if his legs aren't made for walking, and easily makes it to the opposite wall, peering at the posters. ]

Ruby City? [ He mused out loud. ] What part of my brain did I conjure this from?

[ Option 4-2 | Video/Action ]

[ Upon leaving the train station, Artemis follows the directions to the centre of the city and takes a look at the obelisk. Everything is in such great detail and while that doesn't seem out of place, what does is the lack of fours. He doesn't comment on it though, not to himself at any rate. He doesn't want to sound even more crazy than he believes he is. Once there, he leans against the tall monolith and fishes in his pocket for the watch he had been told he had and had left upon his arrival. It was easy enough to figure out how it worked so he clicks on the video feed and speaks aloud. His accent is distinctly Irish and if anyone cares to notice, he has one hazel eye and one brilliant blue. ]

Hello Ruby City. My name...[ Which I suspect you already know as I believe this to be a figment of my subconscious, he mused but didn't say out loud. ]...is Artemis Fowl. The posters at the train station are a nice touch but I only saw two. Two is hardly a scary number. As it is, if you are here, Orion, please make yourself known to me.

[ He ends the video feed with a bored sort of look before closing the watch and placing it back into his pocket. He does not expect any answers. ]

[ Loki doesn't often deal with newcomers. They can fend on their own for all he cares but there are days he gets bored. Days he can't help but peer into the watch with the slightest bit of curiosity. ]

You'll do well to find a place to live, Artemis Fowl.

[ For now he balances the watch on his hand. Some ornate transfigured Asgardian fixtures behind him. ]

I doubt your acquaintance followed you through to this world. Most aren't so lucky.

[ A tip of head, as a greeting. ]

Loki, of Asgard.

[ Live? In my own mind? Artemis wonders. And why would a Norse God be here? Artemis and Orion were Greek Gods. I must have relapsed worse than I thought. But he would play along. He didn't need reality to come crashing down around him. It would only confuse him further.

So Artemis inclined his head in return, hiding his surprise at the response. ]

Orion is hardly an acquaintance, but I see your point. Perhaps you wouldn't mind giving me some more insights into this fair city, Loki of Asgard.

Insights such as?

[ A beat. ]

You struck me as the observant type, but Ruby City is a realm all it's own as I've come to understand. When you leave you won't remember this place.

[ Which doesn't help with this being some kind of made up dream for Artemis but c'est la vie. ]

Ah, [ A tilt of his head as if he's remembered something. ] and we have people who observe us here. I haven't quite figured out their function but I've been lazy about finding information.

[ He hasn't felt compelled, really. He enjoys it here, for the time being. Even with the odd occurrences here and there. ]

[ Well that all sounded vaguely familiar. A realm all it's own sounded like Hybras, but there was no memory loss upon leaving. He remembered the events with complete clarity, even those that didn't technically happen. But this wasn't Hybras. It obviously held different rules. So that meant magic pulled him here. And yet he remembered nothing of the trip. A mind wipe perhaps? If that were true, he'd have to find a way to recall the information at another time. Right now, he had company. He turns back to Loki, still pondering but able to give the Norse Gold most of his attention. ]

Observers? So this is all a game or an experiment to them? With impressive magic, technology or both.

[ He straightens out his suit jacket, which makes no difference due to it's soiled and rumpled state, but it's a habit. ]

Any other information you have would be most helpful. [ Though why would he get it? Loki was often said to be the Trickster God so maybe he was being duped by his own brain once again. ]

Both, invariably. My guess is they depend heavily on magic and not technology. Asgard has better facilities than the ones here. [ He scoffs. ] But then my world was always leagues ahead of Midgard--which I suspect you're from originally.

[ A part of him wants to see where misinformation might lead Artemis but he almost has a nagging voice in the back of his head telling him to play nice.

He never plays nice.

That isn't how he operates. ]

The library is practically useless. If they don't want you to find something, you won't. I highly recommend you abstain from killing anyone but I don't think that'll be a problem for you. [ Yeah he made that mistake one too many times. ] There are plenty of resources available. Many of the residents have their own businesses if that's any indication of how long people tend to stay in this world.

I'm curious, however. Is Orion a God?

[ He knows someone who might be able to track him down if he is. ]

This city does seem much more primitive technologically than I used to. And yes, I do come from what those from Asgard called Midgard. [ It seemed safe to admit those little facts. ]

I'll keep that in mind for when I find the library. Though I hope you don't take offence if I don't take your word for it.

[ His face momentarily frowned at the mention of Orion and did his best to answer without giving away too much about his mental state. ] In mytholology, yes. Orion was a Greek God. Much in the same way Loki is considered a Norse God.

[ Is Artemis implying the Loki is a false god? R u d e. ]

He is, and I am a Norse God.

[ Which will sound confusing for Artemis but makes complete sense in the context of Ruby City what with two incarnations mucking about. ]

I asked because there is another who hails from Olympus. She may be able to help you, granted you clarify as I don't intent to waste her time.

[ Artemis assumes the first comment was about Orion, not realising the second Loki in the city. Confusion isn't something Artemis Fowl suffers from as his brain rationalises most situations. Even when almost eaten by trolls, he refuses to believe it was real. Though, he now knows better. ]

You believe I hail from Olympus? How wonderful. Who, may I ask, also hails from such a mighty place?

[ He is clearly amused but there is no telling why. ]

[ A mocking laugh. ]

No, I mean Orion may be of kin to the person I know. Not you, mortal.

[ A sly smile. ]

Her name. . .[ He contemplates, should he tell him? Why not. She was more than sociable with him. ] is Lady Rosalind.

[ Artemis copied his laugh, though with his own flare. ] If I am mortal, then so is Orion.

[ The name was not immediately recognisible but due to his own incredible intellect, he was sure it was in there somewhere. Something else to ponder later. ]

Then he has no business associating with her.

[ However his curiosity has been piqued. ]

You expect me to believe you're anything but when you said Midgard is what you call home?

My hope is that he never turns up here. If you only believe one thing I say, it's that you will prefer my company to his.

[ And, as always, Artemis has an answer for everything. ]

Do you expect me to believe anything you say when you introduce yourself as the God of Tricks and Lies?

[ How cute. ]

Do you know any other beings that hail from Asgard and carry the same name as I do?

[ He is dying to know what Artemis could come up with for that. Part of his defensiveness comes from the desire to prove himself even if he has given up on doing so in the conventional sense. He stole the throne in 'death'. All that matters is that he achieves his goals and not what name carries as he does but--

In due time. ]

I'm sure I will. I can't say Gods are always the best company.

[ Look at Odin. ]

I think everyone is lying. It's nothing personal.

[ Which wasn't strictly true any more. But without Butler as his own enforcer, he was left with only his mind as a weapon. And while it was as sharp as they come, sometimes the Sig Sauer was just easier. ]

I know a great deal of knowledge spanning various subject matters. [ But he expected this Loki to already know that. If this indeed was just another figment of his conscious. If it wasn't, which was also possibly just not as likely, then he supposed he should be ready for that eventually as well. If there was one thing he had learnt about his dealings with the Fairy People, and especially Opal Koboi, it was to always have a Plan B. ] Asgard being among them yes. [ Well, he hadn't asked for specifics, had he? ]

I'll remember that.

Then you know very, very little of Asgard.

[ No one would dare share his name. Not now, anyway. ]

I'm offended you would think my feelings are hurt so easily. [ They are but that isn't the point. He isn't as naive as he used to be. He will always be a creature of extreme emotions but that is something he will just have to accept. It helps that he has spent so long in the City.

It'll be nearly a year in coming months. ]

I am not arrogant enough to assume I know everything about everything. So if you have information to share, I will gladly hear it.

[ The sneer was back in force on his face and while he wasn't in control of his situation by any means, he did feel some semblance of it for just a moment. Just then. ]

Most are. You are not unique in that respect.

For someone who thinks themselves humble to their own ignorance you are displaying fair bit of false knowledge over my mannerisms.

[ This time he actually smiles. Artemis opened himself up for that one. ]

This world has no currency. Sharing would be highway robbery.

[ Why give Artemis information when Loki gets nothing in return? ]

I'd ask you for an exchange but seeing as you've just arrived there isn't much you could offer me as you are.

[ Despite that set back, Artemis kept up his amused façade. Better to appear in control than appear weak. At least, to one not considered a friend. ]

I am sure I have something of value. All you need do, is find it.

[ Artemis, Artemis.

The reason Loki is even engaging him means he has already pinpointed something of value. It's just a matter of figuring out what that is. He's gathered the boy is intelligent, probably beyond his years. He wants to know if there is something else. He is attracted to quirks after all. He makes a habit of collecting powerful assets. ]

Tell you what, I'll help you get settled for the time being and you can just pay it forward in the future.

I am not stupid enough to accept an open ended deal.

[ But it seemed he had little choice in the matter. If this was his subconscious then he was doing this and it would happen whether he liked it or not. If this was the real Loki, then there was nothing Artemis could do about the information the man possessed. Either way, he wasn't in a good position. It made him wish he wasn't alone. And being alone was part of the reason he thought this wasn't real. ]

You have no reason to refuse my generosity.

[ A chuckle. ]

Besides, I didn't specify that it was a deal. I said to pay it forward.

[ Gold does binding deals. Loki just likes to know people will be there when he needs them which is almost the same thing--except he doesn't lord something over them when they're not present.

Well--

Let's not get into that. ]

"No Clue," Greg said, getting off the train behind him, leaning on a staff he no longer needed, guitar across his back, and a grin from ear to ear. Whatever else he may or may not be, the boy was quite amused.

"But I am curious, if you conjured all this up, why exactly you thought to drag me along? Not to be a drag or anything by asking, of course."

Yep, he totally just said that. And he was totally smirking about it.

She slipped out of the train with all the grace he lacked, and then some. A young girl, or so she seemed, in some odd sort of school uniform, with a briefcase like school bag. While the uniform itself, with it's plaid red skirt, plaid red cape, black coat, red tie, white shirt, might have seemed only slightly odd - and the knee length lace up boots might seem just a drop odder.... None of that is likely to be the thing a magic user like him would notice most. Even the odd purple ponytail would pale in comparison to the small kimono wearing girl floating wingless over her shoulder.

The taller girl smiled warmly at him, holding her bag behind her delicately, leaned slightly forward, head tilted just a fraction of an inch as she gave him a warm smile.

"Perhaps whatever you are seeing came from your heart," she said in a soft musical voice. "The you, who you want most to be."

Her smile was almost blinding as she said that, her eyes dancing with amusement, as if at some inner joke.

The small floating kimono wrapped girl beside her grinned and rested on her shoulder. She acted as though she did not notice. It was possible she actually didn't.

"

Bae had been walking his puppy, trying it out on his own for the first time, and wound up... well... lost. He knew he could call home for help, but he wanted to try and do it on his own. Papa was busy and Henry already thought badly enough about him.

He wound up at the train station, confused. When he had been here last, it had been pouring rain, and he had been miserable. Seeing it now, it was... familiar, but he didn't recall it exactly.

He saw another boy, and his first instinct was to walk away, before someone got hurt. But then... he remembered the party, and walking the dog with his papa and seeing how people reacted... so... he headed over to the other boy with a smile.

"Hi, Welcome."
