April Test Drive

Thinking of apping a character but not sure they'll fit in the city walls?

Locations

1.TRAIN STATION - The place where everyone gets dumped off at. Your first view of Ruby City, complete with informational posters telling you all about where you've ended up.
2. THE BEACH - Lovely year-round, though in the winter months, you're probably not likely to dip your toes in.
3. THE BLACK STALLION - A rather quaint bar. Supposedly, the burgers are great, but you don't see anyone immediately who's willing to serve you. Maybe you're meant to get it yourself.
4. THE OBELISK - The tall monolith in the center of the city marks the gathering place of many events, though right now it seems to be cold and dark.
5. THE CLOCKTOWER - Offering an impressive view of the city, several residents come here to clear their heads, if they don't mind braving the narrow staircase.
6. THE COFFEE JOINT - the front windows are warm and welcoming, and it seems there's always someone friendly enough to fix you a cup when you wander through.
7. THE CATACOMBS - Intrepid, aren't you? Those weird holes may beg exploring, but go too deep and you're going to be in a lot of trouble, considering the viciousness of the creatures held within.
8. THE CITY STREETS - All told, Ruby City is a lovely place, once you get past the fact that several of the buildings look derelict and on the verge of falling down. There's no harm in doing a little sightseeing.
9. THE PARK - You thought it'd be a lovely stroll, but the park is anything but friendly, if those approaching wolf-like creatures are any indication.
10. CHOOSE YOUR OWN - Don't like what we've come up with? Feel like picking your own place? There's a whole host of lovely locations to choose from in the City.

Scenarios

1. NEW ARRIVAL - Step off that train, walk down the street. People usually latch on to newcomers to try and help them out. Even if you look shy, the other residents probably won't be!
2. WATCH TALK - Feeling lost? Disoriented? Don't worry, everyone feels that way on their first day. Fortunately - if the signs at the station are to believed - the watch in your pocket can be used to talk to whoever else might be here.
3. BAD WEATHER - Aw, man. Whether it's snow, or rain, or just plain cold, today was definitely the wrong day to get dumped off in a City in the middle of nowhere.
4. A RUN-IN - Maybe you weren't watching. Maybe they weren't. Either way, you just bumped into someone. Perhaps apologies are in order?
5. HELP, IT HURTS - Clumsy, aren't you? Perhaps wherever the train brought you from wasn't so friendly, or you just tripped and twisted your ankle. Either way, you're in a bit of pain. Hopefully someone will notice your booboos and help patch you up.
6. HUNGRY - It isn't very obvious sometimes that restaurants are what they are, especially in a place like Ruby City. Where can a person go to get a bite to eat around here?
7. MISTAKEN IDENTITY - Hey, there's someone you know! --Or maybe not.
8. BEING FOLLOWED - Maybe you're just being paranoid, or maybe you've got a reason to be afraid. Whatever it is, it feels like there's eyes on you...
9. CURRENT EVENTS - None at the moment, but feel free to look through our event tag!
10. CHOOSE YOUR OWN - Don't like any of these ideas? Feel free to come up with your own!

[She takes a walk everyday since she'd arrived. Lately though, she's aware that she has a Glorfindel-shaped shadow however distant he keeps. At least no one has tried keeping her locked up at the house where she'd be relatively safe considering everything that happens there.

Celebrían saw hobbits briefly when she'd gone to the Grey Havens but she'd never had the chance to really know any of them. It's enough that she recognizes him as one though.]

Greetings, Master Hobbit. You have only just arrived, I would guess?

[Well this hobbit certainly was humble even by hobbit standards, so it was not as if he was expecting to be recognized. But then to have an elf approach and speak to him, you'd think he would be more accustomed but it still left him a bit at a loss and nervous.]

Good afternoon miss. I am, arrived just this morning as it would have.

[Same half bowed his head, trying to be polite. He still wasn't quite sure of what one was supposed to say or do to greet someone with such elegance or courtly appearance.]

[She dips her own head politely in return, smiling. The train had passed earlier in the day, she recalls, but she hadn't looked who had disembarked. Now she wishes she'd taken the time to come and meet him sooner.]

Welcome to Ruby City then, master hobbit. I am Celebrían, I live just by the station.

May I walk with you?

Samwise Gamgee at yer service. It would be an honor to have you walk with me, though I'm afraid I'm not quite certain where it is that I'm walkin' to.

[A real life elf wanting to walk with him, there was a time when this was all that Sam had dreamed of. Then things had changed quite a bit and many of his dreams had come true. Straightening himself up a bit he scratches the back of his head realizing how foolish that probably sounded.]

Is there somewhere you were heading I could escort you to?

Well met, Samwise. And that's more than alright, I was simply taking a walk myself. It does some good just to walk about sometimes.

[A light musical little laugh and she shakes her head.]

Do not worry for that. We can simply walk, it may help you learn your way around.

It is. Though it reminds me of something Mister Frodo said that Bilbo told him. It's a dangerous business, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no knowing where you might be swept off to.

[When he had left the Shire with Frodo, it certainly wasn't an adventure that Sam had been planning for. But then you only got to see what was out there by walking there as well.]

I suppose it might.

[Hard not to smile. It is dangerous, going anywhere at all. She knows that well but what life would anyone live if they stayed right where they were safe all their lives?]

Bilbo sounds quite wise. I wish that I could meet him. [She's glad he agrees to walk with her.]

And where ever we end up, I will guide us back anywhere you like.

Perhaps one day. I'm looking forward to seeing him and Mr. Frodo again some day. Though I recon it will be sometime before that happens.

[Sam adjusts the pack on his back a bit to make certain he wouldn't fall behind once they got to moving again.]

I'll have to find a place to return to first. I doubt there's anyplace cozy on that platform, despite the helpful information they put up.

It may be, I will not lie. Some people come here and stay some time while others remain for barely more than a few weeks.

[What good would lying about it have done anyway?]

You are more than welcome to stay with my family and I, if you like. Until you find a place to call your own.

Yes well they did sail off with Gandalf across the sea, and I was told I could join them some day. Once I was done with all that I had to do.

[At the offer Sam seems a little uncertain of the offer, he would love to but he didn't know much about who they were or if everyone else in the home would be alright with it.]

Thank you, though I wouldn't want to be a bother or nothing. That is I would appreciate it, but don't want to cause no problems with anyone else that might be staying with you. I wouldn't want to intrude.

Sailed? With Gandalf? [It's been so long since she's heard that name, since he first came to Middle Earth. Between her mother and husband, it would have been hard not to meet him.] At least you know you will see them again.

[Oh, she's sure they will be. Finrod would be charmed and so would her mother, her grandfather would hardly refuse her anything. Maedhros and Maglor would probably be just as enchanted as Finrod.]

You would be no bother. In fact, I would hope we would not be the bother. My family sleeps little and I know Maglor has taken to sitting in the music room and Finrod enjoys singing. [She knows they'd avoid making too much noise at night though, if they were asked.]

Yes, to the undying lands. And seeing them again was a promise they made, though not out loud. It's the only reason why I didn't go with them in the first place, well that and I'm not entirely certain they would have let me on the boat. And there was the family waiting for me back in the Shire.

[But he was starting to ramble now.]

No, of course not. It'd be no bother at all, it is your house after all. Besides I've had to sleep in places no one ought to have to sleep, so a little music and song would be nice to have while sleeping by comparison.

I am glad that you will be able to see them again at least. I will have to keep watch for a ship, when I return home, so that I might greet them. [Family is a good reason to stay behind. If one is capable.]

In that then, we will be glad to serve. And you will have a comfortable bed so you will not have to worry on that.

Thank you, I'll be happy to do what I can help out in return. Perhaps tend to the garden or help a bit with the cookin', though I reckon it might be a bit different than what you might be used to.

Help with the garden might be welcome, there is a good sized yard beside the house. So I have been working on starting a garden, with my mothers help. And I would not mind trying anything you make.

[She has always enjoyed trying new things and this is an opportunity she'd missed back home. And probably might never have again, depending on where the hobbits settled across the Sea.]

[They're both certainly things he has had his fair share of practice at, so he wouldn't mind helping in the least.]

If you've already got one started I could help to weed it, or maybe even work on ensuring that they get plenty of water and everything.

And I'll have to figure out what kind of things they have here before I can really cook a decent meal. Though I recon it shouldn't be too hard to find something long as there's a few good taters.

I would not want you to put in too much work to our garden unless you wished to. You are our guest, after all.

[A little smile.] Lucky for all of us, the shops do not charge for anything they are stocked with so you can help yourself to anything they carry. I am sure you will want for little.

It'd be no problem, and I'd be earnin' my keep.

[Well that was awfully strange, Sam looks a little confused about it but then he wasn't going to question it he supposed. After all she had been kind enough to open her home, so perhaps they did the same with their goods.]

That's awful nice of them, though that seems like quite a lot just be giving away.

If you are sure then.

[She can't force him one way or another. She really wouldn't if she could, it wouldn't be fair and she knows her mothers would be disappointed if she tried.]

They bring us here suddenly and from all different times, I suppose it is the least that they can do. Especially for any trouble that it might cause.

As long as you don't mind.

[At the idea of the same people being the ones that pluck them from home at all different times and places, Sam's going to be a bit suspicious. Not only because it was rather strange to take a fellow and then give them everything they need, but what kind of magic would be able to do something like that.]

They must be mighty powerful wizards to be able to do something like that. It was scary enough thinking about what kind of things Mr. Gandalf would be capable of if he to get into a bad mood.
