Locations

1.TRAIN STATION - The place where everyone gets dumped off at. Your first view of Ruby City, complete with informational posters telling you all about where you've ended up.
2. THE BEACH - Lovely year-round, though in the winter months, you're probably not likely to dip your toes in.
3. THE BLACK STALLION - A rather quaint bar. Supposedly, the burgers are great, but you don't see anyone immediately who's willing to serve you. Maybe you're meant to get it yourself.
4. THE OBELISK - The tall monolith in the center of the city marks the gathering place of many events, though right now it seems to be cold and dark.
5. THE CLOCKTOWER - Offering an impressive view of the city, several residents come here to clear their heads, if they don't mind braving the narrow staircase.
6. THE COFFEE JOINT - the front windows are warm and welcoming, and it seems there's always someone friendly enough to fix you a cup when you wander through.
7. THE CATACOMBS - Intrepid, aren't you? Those weird holes may beg exploring, but go too deep and you're going to be in a lot of trouble, considering the viciousness of the creatures held within.
8. THE CITY STREETS - All told, Ruby City is a lovely place, once you get past the fact that several of the buildings look derelict and on the verge of falling down. There's no harm in doing a little sightseeing.
9. THE PARK - You thought it'd be a lovely stroll, but the park is anything but friendly, if those approaching wolf-like creatures are any indication.
10. CHOOSE YOUR OWN - Don't like what we've come up with? Feel like picking your own place? There's a whole host of lovely locations to choose from in the City.

Scenarios

1. NEW ARRIVAL - Step off that train, walk down the street. People usually latch on to newcomers to try and help them out. Even if you look shy, the other residents probably won't be!
2. WATCH TALK - Feeling lost? Disoriented? Don't worry, everyone feels that way on their first day. Fortunately - if the signs at the station are to believed - the watch in your pocket can be used to talk to whoever else might be here.
3. BAD WEATHER - Aw, man. Whether it's snow, or rain, or just plain cold, today was definitely the wrong day to get dumped off in a City in the middle of nowhere.
4. A RUN-IN - Maybe you weren't watching. Maybe they weren't. Either way, you just bumped into someone. Perhaps apologies are in order?
5. HELP, IT HURTS - Clumsy, aren't you? Perhaps wherever the train brought you from wasn't so friendly, or you just tripped and twisted your ankle. Either way, you're in a bit of pain. Hopefully someone will notice your booboos and help patch you up.
6. HUNGRY - It isn't very obvious sometimes that restaurants are what they are, especially in a place like Ruby City. Where can a person go to get a bite to eat around here?
7. MISTAKEN IDENTITY - Hey, there's someone you know! --Or maybe not.
8. BEING FOLLOWED - Maybe you're just being paranoid, or maybe you've got a reason to be afraid. Whatever it is, it feels like there's eyes on you...
9. CURRENT EVENTS - None at the moment, but feel free to look through our event tag!
10. CHOOSE YOUR OWN - Don't like any of these ideas? Feel free to come up with your own!

[While he may not have meant to spook her, spook her he does. Serenity turns around, eyes wide, her hands frozen mid-motion in their task.

Her shoulders remain tense, and she looks very much like she's torn between fight or flight instincts. It's an internal battle, but she manages to push them down. She swallows around a lump in her throat, licking her lips before she speaks.]

Un... Unless you have shoes, I'm not sure what you could do to help with my current predicament.

[She gives him a shake smile before looking back down to finish tying the makeshift bandage.]

You have wings.

I do. They're orange.

[With the obvious sufficiently stated, he watches her bandage her feet for a second, then looks down at his own. His shoes aren't anything fancy--regular old boots, only a little bit worn from his patrols, but he balances himself on one leg and starts to wrestle one off.]

And since I do, these are kind of a superfluous joke. I'd pontificate on the irony of walking my beat when I'm literally too fly to do so, but unless you got a pen to write that shit down, I should probably keep a lid on that shit so it stays fresh till later.

[His boot finally slides off and he hops a little to keep upright, then tilts his head at her.]

What's your shoe size?

[She looks at him, expression becoming increasingly confused as she tries to follow his words. He loses her almost completely, but she understands his intention.

Suddenly she feels fairly flustered.]

Wh-What? But those are yours!

[She couldn't possibly take them!]

I only meant if you had a spare pair, not to take your own shoes.

Whoa, hey. It's fine, it's not like you're keeping them. The shoes don't stop being mine just 'cause I take them off once. Otherwise they'd smell even ranker than they do.

[He sets the first boot down between them--without encroaching on her space--and starts to hover mid-air to remove the other. Also, that last comment is a joke. They don't smell that bad, especially given that a teenage boy (...more or less) has been wearing them.]

Look, ma'am, it's my job to help people, you know? It's not a big deal.

Are you sure you wouldn't need them now though?

[Even if she was only borrowing them, it felt wrong. Of course seeing him hover in mid-air has her leaning more towards accepting the offer. It would be nice not to have to worry about stepping in any more glass or worse.

In the end she gives in, worrying her lower lip as she reaches over to take the boot he set down between them. It looks like it might be a bit big, but Serenity's borrowed her older brothers shoes in the past so she can make due at least until they find someplace safer for her feet.

Which means she'll possibly follow Davesprite around like a duckling until she can properly return his boots.]

You are very kind. Are you a city guard?

[He shakes his head and waves her first question away as he hands over the second boot. He does, at least, have socks to keep his little orange toesies warm in the meantime.]

Kind of, yeah. I'm on the police force in a sort of junior capacity, but Saber--she's the chief--she has me work directly under her as her squire. [He frowns a little.] Which is a lot more paperwork than I figured when I signed up. You know King Arthur doesn't do her own paperwork? It's fucking incredible.

[With what he probably imagines is a surreptitious glance, he tries to check her over for other injuries.]

You know, I could point you to the clinic, if you want to slap a real bandage on that.

[Oh look at her eyes going wide in awe.]

You're a squire to the King of this city?

[Besides her foot - which is now safely covered by his boot - she's uninjured. Frazzled, but uninjured.]

She's not the king here. Just the King of England. Or...whatever counted as England back in those days.

[He tries to picture a map of medieval Britain, then shrugs.]

We don't really have much in the way of government oversight here. Very laissez faire.

She? Wouldn't she be a queen then?

[Not that a woman couldn't be king it's just... Not something Serenity's heard of before. Ever.]

Oh... Might I ask, where is 'here' exactly?

No, no no, she's king. For sure. And this is Ruby City.

[He floats ahead a bit and turns to point at the obelisk rising over the center of town.]

Named after that useless looking thing over there.

[If he says she's a king then Serenity will just accept that as a fact. Who knows, this place might be different then her home.

She follows to where he's pointing, suddenly feeling even smaller then before.]

I see... [Shouldn't it be called Ruby Obelisk City or something to that extent if it was named after it?] How can I return home?
