April Test Drive

Thinking of apping a character but not sure they'll fit in the city walls?

Have no fear, a meme for you is here.

Directions:
  • Use an RNG to choose a location and prompt, or wait for someone else to tag.

  • Post with your character with their name and canon on top!

  • If you'd like, leave contact info for people to get in contact for plotting and other such shenans.

  • Tag around! Make friends. Don't be afraid to chat OOC while tagging.

Locations

1.TRAIN STATION - The place where everyone gets dumped off at. Your first view of Ruby City, complete with informational posters telling you all about where you've ended up.
2. THE BEACH - Lovely year-round, though in the winter months, you're probably not likely to dip your toes in.
3. THE BLACK STALLION - A rather quaint bar. Supposedly, the burgers are great, but you don't see anyone immediately who's willing to serve you. Maybe you're meant to get it yourself.
4. THE OBELISK - The tall monolith in the center of the city marks the gathering place of many events, though right now it seems to be cold and dark.
5. THE CLOCKTOWER - Offering an impressive view of the city, several residents come here to clear their heads, if they don't mind braving the narrow staircase.
6. THE COFFEE JOINT - the front windows are warm and welcoming, and it seems there's always someone friendly enough to fix you a cup when you wander through.
7. THE CATACOMBS - Intrepid, aren't you? Those weird holes may beg exploring, but go too deep and you're going to be in a lot of trouble, considering the viciousness of the creatures held within.
8. THE CITY STREETS - All told, Ruby City is a lovely place, once you get past the fact that several of the buildings look derelict and on the verge of falling down. There's no harm in doing a little sightseeing.
9. THE PARK - You thought it'd be a lovely stroll, but the park is anything but friendly, if those approaching wolf-like creatures are any indication.
10. CHOOSE YOUR OWN - Don't like what we've come up with? Feel like picking your own place? There's a whole host of lovely locations to choose from in the City.

Scenarios

1. NEW ARRIVAL - Step off that train, walk down the street. People usually latch on to newcomers to try and help them out. Even if you look shy, the other residents probably won't be!
2. WATCH TALK - Feeling lost? Disoriented? Don't worry, everyone feels that way on their first day. Fortunately - if the signs at the station are to believed - the watch in your pocket can be used to talk to whoever else might be here.
3. BAD WEATHER - Aw, man. Whether it's snow, or rain, or just plain cold, today was definitely the wrong day to get dumped off in a City in the middle of nowhere.
4. A RUN-IN - Maybe you weren't watching. Maybe they weren't. Either way, you just bumped into someone. Perhaps apologies are in order?
5. HELP, IT HURTS - Clumsy, aren't you? Perhaps wherever the train brought you from wasn't so friendly, or you just tripped and twisted your ankle. Either way, you're in a bit of pain. Hopefully someone will notice your booboos and help patch you up.
6. HUNGRY - It isn't very obvious sometimes that restaurants are what they are, especially in a place like Ruby City. Where can a person go to get a bite to eat around here?
7. MISTAKEN IDENTITY - Hey, there's someone you know! --Or maybe not.
8. BEING FOLLOWED - Maybe you're just being paranoid, or maybe you've got a reason to be afraid. Whatever it is, it feels like there's eyes on you...
9. CURRENT EVENTS - None at the moment, but feel free to look through our event tag!
10. CHOOSE YOUR OWN - Don't like any of these ideas? Feel free to come up with your own!

"But if not for you, I think your dear master would never have reached Orodruin." Maglor points out. "Sometimes, it is the small things that make up the big ones that matter, in the end."

He blushes a little and bows. "Ah! Your pardon, I have been terribly rude, aye. Maglor at your service, Master Samwise."
his_gardener: (You're awake)

[personal profile] his_gardener 2015-04-17 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
"It's no problem or anything, and you don't have to bow or nothing. It's just nice to know a fellow's name when you're talking to him. Besides I was the one who intruded so I was just as rude."

Really he wasn't sure how to take this, he just wanted to be Sam and treated normal like. Well with a bit of common decency that you would give any fellow but still nothing special like bowing or being called lord or master or nothing.

"But it's good to meet you Mr. Maglor. You have quite a fine instrument there."
bythewaves: (shall I play something)

[personal profile] bythewaves 2015-04-17 05:53 am (UTC)(link)
A soft amused hum. "King Elessar does not seem to agree with that." Maglor points out in quiet amusement. "But I will refrain, if it make you more comfortable. And you did not! A bard expects too be interrupted, when he plays - it means someone is listening, aye? And that is always to the good."

He smiles and brushes a hand across the wood fondly. "She is, isn't she? My father made it for me, long ago. Would you like to have a try?"

"Well I'm not king, just a humble gardener. And I suppose he could, but they should at least wait 'til he's finished a song." Well maybe a bit more, but still nothing near what a king was. And it was rude to interrupt if you could help it.

"Oh no, I'm afraid I don't know anything about playing music. Nor singing for that matter. Plus it seems like an important thing to just let anyone play." Or dancing really, it all made him a bit nervous, though he had come out of his shell a bit with Rosie.

"So you are, and so will Gardeners be honored, I think, across Middle-earth." Maglor murmurs softly with a smile. "And I do not mind, I assure you!"

"Oh?" He crooks an eyebrow at Sam in amusement. "But that is not what the tales say! Why, there are stories of Master Samwise singing Master Bilbo's troll song, and all!"
his_gardener: (A true honest to God elf)

[personal profile] his_gardener 2015-04-21 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh well you know how it goes, sometimes the things they tell about in stories are a bit exaggerated and all. I mean I don't mind singin' a tune while having a drink and the rest of the guys are singing along, but it's nothin' special is all."

Ever see a hobbit blush, because Sam might be just a bit from embarrassment.

"Certainly nothing like yours."
bythewaves: (will you look back)

[personal profile] bythewaves 2015-04-21 08:26 am (UTC)(link)
A smile "And Gandalf's song that Lord Frodo said you wrote?"

Hobbits are adorable when blushing, but Maglor bows his head in thanks.

"Thank you for saying so. But there is a beauty in honest song as well that should not be discounted. It is different - it does not make it better or worse."
his_gardener: (An adventure)

[personal profile] his_gardener 2015-04-24 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
"I suppose so."

He really didn't know all that much about how to carry on a conversation about singing. Just that this fellow was talented at it and apparently thought an awful lot of what they had all gone through.

"So Mr. Maglor, have you been in this city long? Seems awfully strange around here compared to others. And there have been some rather strange lookin' folk as well."
bythewaves: (Arnold smile)

[personal profile] bythewaves 2015-04-24 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"Not long" Maglor shrugs a little. "Some few months, I think. And you have the right of it - there are many a strange thing here, and the folk equally so. But most folk, I have found, are good people, if somewhat different to what we are used to."
his_gardener: (Sam the brave)

[personal profile] his_gardener 2015-04-26 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't doubt that they are, just a bit peculiar is all. There's something about it that just seems to stand out, like something you know you ought to know but can't quite figure it out."

It wasn't really an uneasy feeling, just one that made you feel like there was something you were supposed to do or had forgotten.
bythewaves: (regard)

[personal profile] bythewaves 2015-04-27 11:04 am (UTC)(link)
"Mmhmm." Maglor nods slowly. "I think it is because they are not from our... world, I suppose. That there is something a little different about them. Certainly, those of us from Arda seem all drawn to each other, although I suppose most of us Eldar here are kin."
his_gardener: (A good smoke)

[personal profile] his_gardener 2015-04-29 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
"Kin? So you've got family here? That must be nice to have, getting to be together and all rather than separated by who knows what."

Forgive him a moment as he digs through the pack looking for something to nibble on a bit, after all it was nearly time for afternoon tea. He'll also pull out a pipe while sifting to get a little more comfortable where he was sitting.

"Are there a lot of people here from home?"
bythewaves: (corner of my eye)

[personal profile] bythewaves 2015-04-29 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
"I do, aye" Maglor nods. "I am more fortunate than most, it seems."

Sort. Of...

He eyes the pipe askance a bit, but he's used to hobbits and their love of pipeweed.

"Aye, although most of them for one reason or other are Elves. King Elessar is here, and Lord Glorfindel of Rivendell that you know, and I do not know if you ever met him, but King Thranduil, the Elvenking of Mirkwood now Greenwood is here as well."
his_gardener: (Bless the stars)

[personal profile] his_gardener 2015-04-29 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
For now Sam simply sat the Pipe off to the side, you didn't smoke before you ate because then you wouldn't be able to get the proper taste of the food. Besides it was something that was good for settling the stomach after a meal.

"King Elessar. . ." The name seemed familiar but wasn't quite the one that Sam was used to associating with the man. Though the second he did recognize though he wasn't overly familiar with Glorfindel. "I've never met King Thranduil, but I've heard plenty about him from Bilbo when he told us of his adventures."

Finally it sunk in, where Sam knew the name from. "Wait a minute. Aragorn is here? Is he doing well, it's been awhile since I've seen him."
bythewaves: (hm?)

[personal profile] bythewaves 2015-04-29 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
"He is a good man, the Elvenking." Maglor says simply. "I think you would enjoy meeting him, and certainly, he would doubtless be pleased to welcome you."

He nods. "Aye, he is. He does well - he misses his friends, I think, and will be most glad to see you again."
his_gardener: (Look up to a lot of people)

[personal profile] his_gardener 2015-05-01 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"It'll be good to see him again as well. "

After all he had proven himself to be a good man, all that he did for Frodo and Sam. They had heard all about what he and Mr. Gandalf and the others had done at the gate there at the end, keeping that burning eye turned away from the two hobbits that had barely made it up the mountain.

"It must be a rather big place to have so many Kings and people running around. Wonder why no one hardly has ever spoken of it? Seems there'd have been a story or something about it."
bythewaves: (corner of my eye)

[personal profile] bythewaves 2015-05-02 09:51 am (UTC)(link)
"Not so big as that." Maglor smiles wryly and somewhat sadly. "It is, after all, only a city. But I suppose no one tells the tales of it because no one has carried the tales home - we are, I fear, rather trapped here, Master Samwise."
