Well, if you really want a dare instead, I have a couple of things in mind.

[She laces her fingers together and turns out her palms. Oh ho ho ho ho~]

[You'll never get him to cross-dress! He is the manliest of men!]

Regret? Uh...

[He wants to say that he doesn't get regret, but for some reason, he can't say that like he usually would.]

I regret picking truth, for one thing.

[Okay, even he knows that's cheating.]

[That's okay, Chie knows it too. Which is why she's still looking at him expectantly, fists on her hips.]

[She's such a demanding girl! He doesn't appreciate it.]

Uh, that whole thing with Nanako getting sick and stuff. Since it was kind of— all right, totally my fault.

[Sigh.]

[Well...she's glad he's not a heartless bastard. Honestly she can't imagine anyone really wishing harm on a cute little kid like that, Nanako's the sweetest girl Chie's ever met. But now she actually feels a little bad forcing him to say it, just like that. She looks down at her feet, rubbing the back of her head for a moment.]

I guess that was a little unfair on my part.

...But I'm glad you told me.

[He feels bad about that, and also betraying Dojima-san by totally screwing him over, but she only asked him for one thing, and he's not going to volunteer another. He's not expecting her to say what she says next, though.]

Huh? Ah, I did it, now I've got to pay the price! That's what happens when you lose. That's the way the world works.

I guess it's an important lesson for a kid to learn, that there are bad people out there.

[He's sure she hates him now, but every kid has to learn someday that you can't trust adults.]

[Whoa. He actually admitted it? He really does feel regret, doesn't he? Chie looks to the side for a moment. Feels weird, comforting a guy like that, but...feels worse to let him stew in his misery.]

Maybe you could try teaching her that bad people can learn from their mistakes, and get better. Nanako's not the type of girl who'd hold a grudge, you know?

[He's not asking to be comforted. It's sort of weird, coming from her. He really doesn't get these kids. He's the bad guy!]

It's not like I'm ever going to see her again. I'm in jail. So the teaching thing will be hard to do.

Maybe not, but little kids think murderers are pretty scary.

What, you're giving up just like that?

It's not like you've got a life sentence! You want to make it up to her? Give her something good to believe in, and look forward to!

I told you. I lost. I'm not one of you determined, hopeful, young kids. I know when to give up!

I'm still waiting for trial! I haven't been sentenced yet. So I don't know what I'm gonna get. I could get a life sentence. Ha, or the other kind. She can look forward to the bad guy getting what he deserves.

[She should slug some sense into him. Sometimes that works. With this guy, though? No idea. It probably wouldn't be as effective coming from her, but it's pretty clear she's mad. She POINTS.]

[People try slugging sense into him a lot. It's had mixed results. But he doesn't care if she's mad. She can be mad all she wants! Although, at that emphatic POINT, he gives a start.]

Wait, is it my turn to ask you truth or dare, or do you want me to pick again? I never played this game.

[Because he didn't have any friends.]

[She's not going to enlighten him otherwise, since she's got a point to make.]

Okay. I guess... Er— Truth.

[It's a tough choice! Even if he regretted truth the last time, he's still afraid of what she might dare him to do. Especially since he seemed unable to evade the truth.]

Are you saying that because you really believe it, or because you're just not creative enough to start considering alternatives?

[denialism]

Uh, the alternative is escaping from jail. Shouldn't you be wanting me to serve my time and take my punishment?

[f_steak]

Sheesh, are you going to dance around every question?

[It's not like it'll transfer to the actual game more's the pity, she's getting impatient.]

Anyway, I don't care about punishment. Redemption's more important. Otherwise, what's the point of punishing someone in the first place?

What do you want me to say? That I'm not creative? Okay. I'm not creative.

[If he was creative, he probably could have thought of better solutions to his boredom.]

I'm not really redeemed. I'm not the type. You know, everyone wants to think that bad guys learn the error of their ways and become better people, but that's not how it usually works.

True. There's the rule, and the exception. But it's still your choice, you know?

Whatever, I guess. If anyone's going to change your mind, I know it's not going to be me.

I don't know what you think I'm going to do. At some point in your life, you realize you're out of options.

I'm following the rules, I'm stopping some dumb kid from destroying the world, and I didn't even complain that much about being given gross lotus roots. That's pretty good, coming from me. Don't expect miracles! You'll only be disappointed.
