State of the City - JULY
STATE OF THE CITY
July 2015
July 2015
CR MEME AND TEST DRIVE INFO:
July's test drive is now up and running - take a look and make all those prospective players feel welcome! There are already some very interesting characters poking their heads up and seeing how they might fit into the city, but they're never going to know for sure if they don't get interaction from you lovely folks.
The general CR meme is also up, offering opportunities for plotting between yourselves and your fellow players! Go ahead and see who's already put up a comment, and set your own up if you'd like to. Come on, guys, you all live in the same city, you're bound to come across everyone at least once!
METAPLOT INFO:
So what's going on with the city as a whole?
The Rumor War events have far-reaching consequences that aren't only restricted to the few days or weeks following their conclusions. Each event, and those NPCs whose influence over Ikaros and the city itself as a result, cause permanent alterations to the way that the city functions and its general appearance.
So far, an early win in the first Rumor War event by the Virtue of Charity gave the city rations a boost. Everything from food and gardening supplies, to clothes and weapons were made more plentiful. Charity doesn't discriminate, after all. A later win by Wrath increased the amount of firearms, ammunition and other weaponry available in the city, piggybacking onto Charity's overall climate effect. Most recently, victories by both Pride and Sloth restored the wall around the city and also supplied warmer, softer blankets and better quality materials for clothing (and stuffing pillows), giving an extra edge of comfort to the usual fare.
While several of the NPCs are mistrustful (or worse) of the people residing in the city, some are open to conversation and even questioning, up to a point. Some of those who are are being cooperative are making attempts to persuade others to do the same, with varied results. The benefits of success would, of course, be that the Virtues and Vices holding stronger and more reliable abilities will be more willing to be helpful. NPCs can be contacted using the NPC contact pages, but please be patient! Some of them take longer than others to answer their watches.
GAME FEEDBACK:
After the laid back nature of the past month, we'll be picking up the pace again going forward, so don't fret if you've started to find yourself short of things to do. As promised in last month's SotC, this month will play host to a Rumour War Event which will take place closer to the end of the month.
Again, please let us know if you would like to see any tweaks or changes to the SotC layout! What's working for you, what isn't working? Any suggestions for the game on the whole? We'd like to know!
EVENT LIST FOR THE MONTH:
A playbook for your PCs
JULY 5 - JULY 6: WE GONNA PARTY LIKE IT'S 1999
A short event to start off the month with a bang is just what the doctor ordered! Taking advantage of the warm weather, the residents of the city will be made aware of preparations on the beach and boardwalk from the morning of July 4th in the form of colourful hand-drawn posters in various places. Anyone who ventures to attend the advertised gathering will find, in addition to the usual weekend life brightening the boardwalk, a large bonfire burning on the beach and a spread of tropical foods laid out on covered trestle tables far enough away to be untouched by the heat.
On the beach, small palm huts to provide some escape from the sun and a few crates containing equipment for a limbo contest and several other beach-themed games will be set up, just waiting to be taken advantage of.
As night falls, the area will be lit with beach lanterns stuck into the sand and candles on the tables, the weather staying warm and pleasant. Small fireworks will be available for the enjoyment of anyone wishing to use them, and the edge of the woods will even appear to be more tropical for a short time (much to the confusion of the local fauna). Beach towels and low slung hammocks will be on offer and set up by the mysterious boardwalk denizens, offering a comfortable and fun kick off to summer.
There will be a mod posted log for this event, posted on the evening of July 4th.
JULY 7 - JULY 19
A period of downtime before the main event of the month, this is an opportunity for you to continue developing your own personal plots or to start new ones! It may also be an opportunity for other things, which are detailed further down in this bulletin, so please do read on!
JULY 20 - JULY 30: GOTTA CATCH 'EM ALL!
The Rumour War event for July will be themed around the Pokémon Universe. While there will be a plotting post with full details closer to the time, we would hate to rob you of the chance to speculate about what we might be about to lay out for you!
In order to make the event as accessible as possible, we are trying to ensure that prior knowledge of the world of Pokémon is not required outside of what will be provided in the event. We would like this to be fun for everyone, so there will be ample time for your opinions and questions when the main plotting post goes up around five days before the event commences.
We will be using an RNG setup, as is customary for our Rumour War events, and the NPCs pulled into the fray will be Gene Jecklin (Kindness) and Ava Rice (Greed), but just how their particular aspects will come into play... well, we'll leave that to your feverish imaginations for now!
STATE OF THE CITY:
Full Weather Report | Threat Report
WEATHER:
A warm start to the month, fairly humid with the occasional showers which will offer little respite from the heat. The flowers seem to enjoy it, though. It is a trend that looks set to continue for the rest of the month, though any sudden aberrations will certainly be brought to your attention. Though the humidity isn't as high as June, sleeping at night will still be made much easier by leaving a window open and allowing some fresh air into the room.
Unfortunately, none of the buildings in Ruby City are really made to reflect heat.
ANIMALS AND BESTIARY INFO:
The escape of the leviathan shook things up both inside and outside of the city. Native water creatures have been slow to return but there has been some of the usual giggling chatter beneath the bridge in the early mornings and late afternoons.
Unchecked thus far, the wendigo population is still making itself an issue, now taking to possessing the other local wildlife such as wargs, spriggans and hobgoblins, turning already violent creatures into marauding deathbringers. Attentive patrols will keep them at bay initially, but these creatures are intelligent enough to quickly figure out how to get around that obstacle.

CLOSING:
Fii-mod would like to apologise for the lateness of this bulletin, as work has been kicking her butt all week long. Please use the comments below to your hearts content for event plotting, and for addressing questions to the moderators.
Now, for the 'other things' mentioned above! The idea of 'mini adventure' events has popped into mind, based around the premise of small groups of volunteers (RNG'd if there are many more than can go on the adventure), with tasks set that will culminate in a reward.. or possibly a punishment, depending on how it goes. These consequences may be personal or may affect the city as a whole, depending on the nature of the event. As of yet the idea is still half formed, but as well as noting some ideas of my own I am also reaching out for anything that you would like to do!
Is there a place on the map you'd like to see in a more exciting setting? A creature in the bestiary that you'd like to have pushed into the limelight? Let us know on the plot submissions post - submitting an idea guarantees you a place on it (if you want one)! More news on this as the idea develops.
Additionally, there will be some small tweaks to the death mechanic over the following month to have it make a little more sense than it does at the moment. Full details as soon as it is ready to be rolled out! Don't worry, it will be essentially the same, simply laid out in a more streamlined fashion.
Finally, please remember that the Activity Check begins on July 5th. Any thread or post with a timestamp from before that date will count towards your activity, even if you continue to tag on it during the length of the activity check. Essentially, tag up to the 13th will count, as long as the thread it belongs to was started before the 5th of the month! While we do not encourage this, is is something that we will accept for those people who are struggling.

QUESTIONS & COMMENTS - Event
Event-ish
From some of the questions that were asked and how they were answered, I was under the impression there would be some limited NPCing of the Leviathan. For example, my character was going to try and talk to it using his ability to talk to animals. (Also, the mentions of possible death made it seem--at least in my mind--that attackers might get some response.) However, there was never any NPC tagging with that. Did I just assume wrong or did plans get changed?

Stepping up to take responsibility for this because I did not only drop the ball, I kicked it into the neighbour's greenhouse then claimed the ball wasn't actually mine when they came looking for the culprit.
If you would still like to have that conversation, however brief it might be, let me know.

Since that is the type of derp he is.So if you don't mind, I would like to do something, however brief. There is no rush, though. After all, I let it go this long without asking about it!
Summer event and mini event questions
As for those mini-adventures? Kaylin wants in on pretty much any and all! This sounds like a lot of fun!

And I don't honestly know what to do with Kaylin. The person she spoke to with the police dropped, and she wants to have that secured before she joins the patrols. I've tried contacting other players on the force, but have gotten insufficient results.
