Catacombs Exploration

Details: The summoning and subsequent escape of the leviathan has left several structural issues in the Northern quarter despite efforts by residents and overseers both to shore up the damage. On the morning of August 29th, a small group will drop into the catacombs via a weak point in the ground which will close as quickly as it appeared thanks to the shifting nature of the tunnels beneath.

Entering the catacombs in so unusual a manner offers a unique opportunity - one of exploration. Without food or water save for what they had on their persons their priority should be on escape, but on the way they will come across a strange room lost deep in the winding passageways.

Much like many other small hideaways lost deep in the catacombs, this room appears to have been left abandoned for some time. Behind rusted bars with the door unlocked, a narrow entrance area tapers off into a wide and longer space. There are nooks two feet deep and six feet long cut two high and two abreast in each wall, littered with the dusty remains of what look to be scraps of fabric. A desk thick with dust but still standing is tucked into the corner of the 'main room', and some age-worn sheets of paper still linger under the coating of grey.

With the dust cleared off, there is still some writing legible on the paper, but great care will be needed in order to gain the full message...

After the group leaves the room, continuing with their attempts to find their way out, the ground under them will begin to subtly shake. Another earthquake? No, but in the darkness behind them something large and hungry is creeping closer, drawn by the sounds of their voices and the vibrations of their footsteps.

Before them lies blackness, any light source showing a slope downwards just steep enough to sweep them off their feet. Behind them is the creature. Will they try to fight, or will they take the plunge into the unknown? Either choice may offer escape, but each under different circumstances.

Rewards: Full disclosure of the contents of the letters IF handled carefully, part if handled incorrectly. Notable trinkets IF correct places are searched in the discovered room.

This mini-event will operate strictly on a volunteer basis! If you would like to be considered, please comment below with the relevant character journal and only enter one of your characters if you have more than one.

Sign-ups will remain open for seven days until Monday, August 24th, at which point they will be RNG'd for participants if they number more than three. As Badge suggested the event, they will be granted an automatic place.

In order to make sure that this is enjoyable for everyone involved, we must insist that those who do volunteer are committed to taking part should they be chosen! If you are selected and change your mind, let us know before August 29th so that we can fill the vacant spot.

Anyways, Chibi Chibi will be able to produce light... she literally glows. She's not going to want to fight the monster, but she will put a barrier between them and the beast their decision to be made, if need be (though she can in fact fight, if needed).

She has wings and can carry one other person, so... there's that however you guys want to use it.

Well THIS isn't going to end in doom.

Phoenix has his little dagger he got eons ago but generally prefers not to have to deal with horrible things that want to eat him. He's got enhanced endurance thanks to his fairy tale reward but that's about it. You're probably going to want him in the room with stuff though.
