November Test Drive!

Thinking of apping a character but not sure they'll fit in the city walls?

Have no fear, a meme for you is here.

Directions:
  • Use an RNG to choose a location and prompt, or wait for someone else to tag.

  • Post with your character with their name and canon on top!

  • If you'd like, leave contact info for people to get in contact for plotting and other such shenans.

  • Tag around! Make friends. Don't be afraid to chat OOC while tagging.

Locations

1.TRAIN STATION - The place where everyone gets dumped off at. Your first view of Ruby City, complete with informational posters telling you all about where you've ended up.
2. THE BEACH - Lovely year-round, though in the winter months, you're probably not likely to dip your toes in.
3. THE BLACK STALLION - A rather quaint bar. Supposedly, the burgers are great, but you don't see anyone immediately who's willing to serve you. Maybe you're meant to get it yourself.
4. THE OBELISK - The tall monolith in the center of the city marks the gathering place of many events, though right now it seems to be cold and dark.
5. THE CLOCKTOWER - Offering an impressive view of the city, several residents come here to clear their heads, if they don't mind braving the narrow staircase.
6. THE COFFEE JOINT - the front windows are warm and welcoming, and it seems there's always someone friendly enough to fix you a cup when you wander through.
7. THE CATACOMBS - Intrepid, aren't you? Those weird holes may beg exploring, but go too deep and you're going to be in a lot of trouble, considering the viciousness of the creatures held within.
8. THE CITY STREETS - All told, Ruby City is a lovely place, once you get past the fact that several of the buildings look derelict and on the verge of falling down. There's no harm in doing a little sightseeing.
9. THE PARK - You thought it'd be a lovely stroll, but the park is anything but friendly, if those approaching wolf-like creatures are any indication.
10. CHOOSE YOUR OWN - Don't like what we've come up with? Feel like picking your own place? There's a whole host of lovely locations to choose from in the City.

Scenarios

1. NEW ARRIVAL - Step off that train, walk down the street. People usually latch on to newcomers to try and help them out. Even if you look shy, the other residents probably won't be!
2. WATCH TALK - Feeling lost? Disoriented? Don't worry, everyone feels that way on their first day. Fortunately - if the signs at the station are to believed - the watch in your pocket can be used to talk to whoever else might be here.
3. BAD WEATHER - Aw, man. Whether it's snow, or rain, or just plain cold, today was definitely the wrong day to get dumped off in a City in the middle of nowhere.
4. A RUN-IN - Maybe you weren't watching. Maybe they weren't. Either way, you just bumped into someone. Perhaps apologies are in order?
5. HELP, IT HURTS - Clumsy, aren't you? Perhaps wherever the train brought you from wasn't so friendly, or you just tripped and twisted your ankle. Either way, you're in a bit of pain. Hopefully someone will notice your booboos and help patch you up.
6. HUNGRY - It isn't very obvious sometimes that restaurants are what they are, especially in a place like Ruby City. Where can a person go to get a bite to eat around here?
7. MISTAKEN IDENTITY - Hey, there's someone you know! --Or maybe not.
8. BEING FOLLOWED - Maybe you're just being paranoid, or maybe you've got a reason to be afraid. Whatever it is, it feels like there's eyes on you...
9. EVENTS - Feel free to look through our event tag!
10. CHOOSE YOUR OWN - Don't like any of these ideas? Feel free to come up with your own!

[His voice drops for a moment to a mutinous mutter.]

Not my fault our kitchen was a nonfunctional puppet dick deathtrap.

[BUT ANYWAY.]

Can't we, like, reverse engineer some modern shit? I mean, you're from 2001 and I'm from 2012, there's gotta be other people that actually, like, know how to do stuff.

Outer space.

[Because THAT'S normal.]

[Uh.]

Are you still doing the Superman joke, because that...sounded pretty serious to me.

Yeah? Hell, that's awesome. Really digging that soft nineties aesthetic.

[personal profile] digiorno 2015-11-08 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
[Yeah, no. All that makes him do is tighten his grip - and since Dio can't see anyway, he lets Gold Experience half-materialize, hovering over his hand like a golden glove to add strength. Gonna have to rip yourself out of your shirt to escape, friend.]

Did he do something to you? [Still to the dog, yes.] Do you want me to feed him to you? You do look incredibly hungry.

[He makes a thoughtful noise, then flicks the dog on the nose.]

Go home and get some real food, capito?

[. . . and there it goes.]

Nnrrrggnnffh.

[Could Dave look less enthusiastic to talk about this? Debatable.]

My bro collected puppets. And also assorted live weaponry. And mostly left it all lying around the house for my prepubescent past self to fall ass-first into.

[Or, you know. Deliberately set booby traps for his prepubescent past self to fall ass-first into.]

There were cherry bombs in the ice dispenser.

[Bro . . .]

[He looks - confused for a moment, understandably so, but not for the normal reasons, because - well. Childhood homes do not necessarily make safe havens; that doesn't surprise him. But live weaponry.]

[He's abruptly very curious, wants to know - how old was he? Did he give a reason, or not? What was he like, angry or distant or just calm? And some of that curiosity is communicated in the slight tip of his head, the way his expression is just a little too sharp, but most of it stays buttoned up tight, as things usually do with Giorno.]

. . . You must have gotten very good at dodging.

[That seems to be all he has to say on the matter. Is that tact or politics?]

Reverse-engineering might be possible, but there's no electrical grid, so we'd have to start there. And I have to tell you I have no idea how to set up a direct current.

[It could be tact or politics or a tap-dancing bear for all Dave cares, he bails on that topic like it's the Titanic and he's that asshole who pretended to be a little crying girl's father to get on the lifeboats. Good-bye, whichever character(s) might represent Bro's inescapable looming shadow over his life. Maybe the ship itself? Maybe the iceberg.

Whatever. He's just gonna move on.]

I mean, I don't know anything about that stuff either, but if it was that hard, like, people wouldn't've been able to do it in the first place. Doesn't it have something to do with kites?

[Dave, you are not Benjamin Franklin. Stop.]
digiorno: (♛ the kids are all wrong)

[personal profile] digiorno 2015-11-08 06:03 am (UTC)(link)
Um.

[Okay, but Giorno is not Benjamin Franklin either.]

I think there was a key on a kite. And an elephant?

[No, that was Thomas Edison. You're just confused now.]

[Do you believe in gravity?

Enrico Pucci does. He has seen countless scenes of everyday hardships, one more boy shivering in the rain should not warrant any special feelings of pity, yet as he strolls past the boy safely under his umbrella he cannot stop himself from looking back. He can't pinpoint what calls out to him. He looks like any other hapless street urchin.... Except for that look in his eyes has a fire behind it that reminds him of someone.

Oh a whim the priest turns easily and walks directly up to Dio. He does not shy back from appraising him, from his strange clothes to searching his face of every eerily familiar characteristic. Whatever he sees, Pucci tilts his umbrella forward to bump lightly against the edge of the awning. A silent invitation for him to join and walk if he wants.]

An unfortunate day to be caught out in the rain, child.

[There's no edge of mocking in his voice. For all the world he simply appears to be a concerned man of God.]

[a. the minor fall]

[2... 3... 5... 7....

After it all Pucci was drained. So much had occurred and so much obscured by the simple action of arriving in a town he had no recollection of. He hardly knew what his own Stand was anymore in this period of change and here he was. In Ruby City.

11... 13... 17... 19...

He stumbles through the streets. The information provided at the train station had been unsatisfactory to say the least. He needed to get there. He could not risk losing this chance to reach Heaven. He would walk there on his own two feet if he had to. Except even his feet were not the most diligent allies at the moment he realizes as his foot catches on the uneven cobble tumbling directly into a stranger. He catches himself against the other on reflex but hurried pushes away while bowing his head.]

Ah- I am terribly sorry. How clumsy of me.

[God damn it. He did not have time for pleasantries right now. His time was slipping away from him and he needed to go- As soon as Pucci rights himself he tries to move forward once more. Focused only on his goal. He was not defeated yet.

23... 29... 31... 37...]

[b. the major lift]

[Pucci has taken some time to rest, to collect himself. Even if he cannot accept the fact that he is stuck in this city there is also nothing he can do about it and he was not one to uselessly waste energy.

With nowhere to go he gravitates towards the cathedral in the center of town. No one could say that Pucci was not a pious man. He is remarkably unobtrusive, seated on a bench to the side of the great hall with head bowed. To the casual observer they might assume he is praying and he very well could be. After all, isn't a man alone with his thoughts another form of prayer in its own right?

Despite the private display he is wearing a priest's garb and as one he is always open to talking with his fellows. It was a habit that was hard to break even when one is feeling lost themselves, so anyone that stares for too long or approaches he will make eye contact with. Come talk with him if you wish.]

[Giorno is always walking. When he isn't fighting or governing or planning something, anyway - he's always walking. His goal is to know this city well enough that he can walk it in the middle of the night with his eyes closed and his ears plugged, and truth be told he's very close to achieving that goal.]

[Part of being aware of your surroundings is being aware of the people nearby, of course. So he's aware of the man coming towards him - he recognizes the garb of a priest, even if it's a little unconventional - and is completely prepared to nod and let the obviously troubled man pass without speaking to him, but then. Well.]

[Man, people run into each other a lot around here, don't they.]

[Still, at this point - at this point it's obvious that the man who's run into him isn't well, in body or in mind, and so he reaches out to grab his shoulder, even though he obviously wants to leave. This is not, it should be noted, out of the goodness of his heart. Letting someone obviously troubled walk away without at least the offer of help is a bad first impression. He doesn't make bad first impressions.]

[So.]

No, that was my fault. Are you all right, Padre?

[This will probably go fine.]

[Was he really alone at all?]

[The sound of quiet steps on a wooden floor would interrupt the silence of the poorly lit cathedral, their source a man in the pitch black of a priest's clothing under a long purple coat. He walked in slow but long strides, coming to a gradual stop when he noticed Pucci and turned dark eyes on his fellow man of God with an unreadable smile.]

Good afternoon. It's rare that I find others having made their way here.

[...and oddly, he spoke in a voice remarkably like Pucci's own.]

[He won't rip his shirt trying to set himself free, but he won't stop struggling either. Whatever hold this man - teenager? - has on him feels almost inhuman, but Dio's feels himself racing with fury the longer he's kept here like this, like some misbehaving child. Who did this idiot think he was?

If anything hearing him talk to the dumb beast like it could actually understand only irks him more. Dio digs his nails in Giorno's wrist and glares darkly at him as the dog trots off.]

I said- let me go.
digiorno: (♛ see straight through me)

[personal profile] digiorno 2015-11-08 08:02 am (UTC)(link)
[Now, finally, Giorno's attention turns back to Dio, and . . . for the first time he looks a little uncertain. Because now that he actually sees him, it's clear that something's not right here. He can't put his finger on what, but. Definitely something.]

[He schools his expression into neutrality again fairly quickly, but the moment was there.]

You're going to have to try a lot harder than that if you want to hurt me.

[Probably not the best thing to say to tiny Dio, but you know.]

Why should I let you go?

[personal profile] sinfamous 2015-11-08 08:12 am (UTC)(link)
[Indivisible. Just like the prime numbers he was counting and focusing on. He would walk the remaining miles if no train was coming, nothing would stop his ambition.

Except a slight hand holding on to his shoulder. Pucci had tried to walk forward normally, not expecting such a reaction, and jerks against the hold. Held in place he finally turns to really look at the stranger.

It feels as if he saw another star shoot across the sky.

Could so many coincidences exist in one man's life? Was anything truly a coincidence in his life anymore? No. This was fate once again. All uncertainty fades from him and he cannot help but smile at Giorno.]

I am more than alright. This may sound strange, but can I ask you a question? [He does not pause for a reply, obviously never intending to wait on one.] Do you believe in 'gravitational forces' between humans?

A; BANGS POTS AND PANS LOUDLY

[personal profile] beatofmyblood 2015-11-08 08:18 am (UTC)(link)

[This is not the reunion he expected.

If he ever saw Dio again, he expected it to be in the very shadow of death, with a sacrifice he's been told will end their fates together - at least, for a time. Jonathan Joestar expected to see Dio with a face as pale as moonlight, fangs glinting in the firelight, sinewy neck torn away from his body by desperation and force.

Jonathan Joestar did not expect a fading memory from his younger years. He's grown since then, matured from an entitled child to a man others could respect as a true gentleman. This boy has stopped time, and Jonathan snaps his head around to look twice at the scene in question. The irony present in this situation hits him like a sledgehammer, but this man plays rugby, and it takes a lot more than the body weight of a twelve year-old to shove him to the side.

This is the boy who will kill him. This is the boy who will threaten the very fate of his family someday, but this is before his life took a turn for the bizarre. He knows by now that Dio never cared for him as a friend or a brother, but the boy he's looking at is no longer a monster.

He's human again.]

D--Dio?!

[He can't explain how this feels. He can't explain how any of this feels.]
digiorno: (♛ the story's all off)

[personal profile] digiorno 2015-11-08 08:32 am (UTC)(link)
[Ummmmmmmm.]

[This is not how he expected this interaction to go. He expected - well, it could have been anything, really. The priest could have been distracted or injured or otherwise unwell, or he could have been rude or dismissive or grateful for the help. Anything would have been fine.]

[Anything except this, which - his first instinct is to recoil. He fights it immediately, because if it were that easy to get under his skin he wouldn't be who he is, wouldn't have gotten to where he's gotten to. He wouldn't have survived, and he is a survivor. But the question is worth a moment's consideration, even putting aside its inherent oddness and the discomfort crawling up his spine, so he allows brief silence.]

[In the silence, he lets his hand fall to his side. This priest is clearly well, at least physically; he doesn't need anyone to hold him up. More than all right, what the hell does that mean?]

[His first thought is to Stand users. But he doesn't see a Stand here, and he's absolutely not pulling out Gold Experience, not after that look. So he thinks for a moment, and then:]

Are you referring to fate? Or something more specific?

[personal profile] sinfamous 2015-11-08 08:34 am (UTC)(link)
[Maybe it was the ill kept state of the city or the cathedral itself but Pucci was not expecting to see another man of the cloth. Even though he looked up at the even foot steps he would rather continue his thoughts in peace. However, he was not about to start off on the wrong foot with even the most inconsequential stranger and a colleague was not to be ignored.

Smoothly, he stands up and approaches Kirei, extending a hand to the other in greeting.]

A sad state of affairs then. Have you been here long?

[Can't even attract a following to such a lovely cathedral? At least Pucci had the excuse that he was servicing prisoners.]

[Dio meets his gaze head on the moment the Father focuses on him with a ferocity that would make weaker men step back. A tick of annoyance snags him as this complete stranger looks him over with consideration, but it's the offer of pity (because what else would it be?) that raises his hackles. It's insulting.

He doesn't budge an inch, eyes unwavering.]

Go back to your church and continue feeding gutter rats. My state is no business of yours.
blackmass: (anger and agony)

Long enough. [Kirei inclined his head in what was the faintest trace of a bow before unfolding his arms from behind him and briefly shaking his fellow priest's hand.] One tends to lose track after time enough spent idle, unfortunately.

[As pleasant as his words were, there was something a little hollow to them; it sounded like he spoke in a flat tone with only the barest affectation of amusement.]

What of yourself? I'd hope that my perception's not faulty enough that I've completely overlooked another child of God in this miserable place.

[It's like running into a wall. If Dio were less himself he'd almost believe he did run into an actual wall, but thankfully that isn't the case.

The only part of this looking up was that it seemed he lost the dog in the crowds, but the small seed of relief is quickly extinguished when the literal meat wall he ran into exclaims like a shrieking banshee - and with his name of all things! At least that grabs his attention enough to turn back from where he was scanning the crowds for any sight of the beast... and he looks up.]

Excuse you? [He recognizes that face, but disbelief suspends him. He's so caught off guard by the strange sight of a man whom he is sure could be Jonathan (which is ridiculous) that his expression shows his surprise as plain as day for a few precious seconds until he falls back into annoyance. This isn't Jonathan.]

Who are you? [Dio demands. It isn't a question.]
