Locations

1.TRAIN STATION - The place where everyone gets dumped off at. Your first view of Ruby City, complete with informational posters telling you all about where you've ended up.
2. THE BEACH - Lovely year-round, though in the winter months, you're probably not likely to dip your toes in.
3. THE BLACK STALLION - A rather quaint bar. Supposedly, the burgers are great, but you don't see anyone immediately who's willing to serve you. Maybe you're meant to get it yourself.
4. THE OBELISK - The tall monolith in the center of the city marks the gathering place of many events, though right now it seems to be cold and dark.
5. THE CLOCKTOWER - Offering an impressive view of the city, several residents come here to clear their heads, if they don't mind braving the narrow staircase.
6. THE COFFEE JOINT - the front windows are warm and welcoming, and it seems there's always someone friendly enough to fix you a cup when you wander through.
7. THE CATACOMBS - Intrepid, aren't you? Those weird holes may beg exploring, but go too deep and you're going to be in a lot of trouble, considering the viciousness of the creatures held within.
8. THE CITY STREETS - All told, Ruby City is a lovely place, once you get past the fact that several of the buildings look derelict and on the verge of falling down. There's no harm in doing a little sightseeing.
9. THE PARK - You thought it'd be a lovely stroll, but the park is anything but friendly, if those approaching wolf-like creatures are any indication.
10. CHOOSE YOUR OWN - Don't like what we've come up with? Feel like picking your own place? There's a whole host of lovely locations to choose from in the City.

Scenarios

1. NEW ARRIVAL - Step off that train, walk down the street. People usually latch on to newcomers to try and help them out. Even if you look shy, the other residents probably won't be!
2. WATCH TALK - Feeling lost? Disoriented? Don't worry, everyone feels that way on their first day. Fortunately - if the signs at the station are to believed - the watch in your pocket can be used to talk to whoever else might be here.
3. BAD WEATHER - Aw, man. Whether it's snow, or rain, or just plain cold, today was definitely the wrong day to get dumped off in a City in the middle of nowhere.
4. A RUN-IN - Maybe you weren't watching. Maybe they weren't. Either way, you just bumped into someone. Perhaps apologies are in order?
5. HELP, IT HURTS - Clumsy, aren't you? Perhaps wherever the train brought you from wasn't so friendly, or you just tripped and twisted your ankle. Either way, you're in a bit of pain. Hopefully someone will notice your booboos and help patch you up.
6. HUNGRY - It isn't very obvious sometimes that restaurants are what they are, especially in a place like Ruby City. Where can a person go to get a bite to eat around here?
7. MISTAKEN IDENTITY - Hey, there's someone you know! --Or maybe not.
8. BEING FOLLOWED - Maybe you're just being paranoid, or maybe you've got a reason to be afraid. Whatever it is, it feels like there's eyes on you...
9. EVENTS - Feel free to look through our event tag!
10. CHOOSE YOUR OWN - Don't like any of these ideas? Feel free to come up with your own!

[This is Naomi, opening her mouth to argue, pointer finger up to emphasize her point.

More like a crepe. You know, with the filling spilling out? Yeah.

[DAVE...]

I mean, it'd be fine, but we wouldn't exactly be having this conversation right now.

[She makes a face, nose wrinkling.]

Okay, well, did you hurt your ankles or anythin' when you landed?

Look, kid, I've got better self-preservation than that.

[DO YOU, DAVE. But he shifts up onto the balls of his feet and then back down to prove his legs are fine.]

See? I didn't land that hard.

[She was just a very short seventeen year old. Regardless she puffs out one of her cheeks, an incredibly childish action that probably doesn't help her case.]

Okay, but only if you're positive. [She's still not sure how he didn't hurt himself, but it looks like he's fine.] How'd you fall from up there?

[A short sigh.]

I didn't fall, exactly. I mean, I was just flying up there trying to get a handle on shit, but then shit just started flying off the handle as far as audibility goes, and I sort of lost my chill for a second and took the quickest route down which happened to be the route most assisted by gravity.

So you fell. [Naomi tilts her head to the side, looking only a little amused.] That's kinda what the "quickest route down" is when gravity helps.

[But if he wants to pretend like he didn't fall...]

I'm glad you're okay though. Did'ja just get here? I mean to to the city. 'm still new too, but I've been here for a few days. Oh! 'm Naomi. Naomi Mikano!

[Oh. Well. That happened rapidly. Excellent subject change, he is on board with this.]

Dave. Strider.

[He waves vaguely in the direction of the train station.]

My train pulled in like half an hour ago, so yeah, I guess I'm the rookie here. You're really seventeen?

[Sometimes Naomi's good at the subject changes. She's also gotten a lot better in noticing when someone wants to drop something. Her older brother's given her a lot of practice with it all.]

I still kinda think we're both rookies here, I just have a few days on you. Um, has anyone given you the bas- Yes 'm seventeen! My birthday was in May!

[So offended!]

[He says nothing. He just artfully deigns not to notice the height difference between them. Just is totally not bringing attention to that in any way.]

[Look, she's even trying to get on her tip-toes to lessen the height difference.]

Okay, old lady. You wanted to give me the basics?

I guess I could give them to you. [She gives a little huff though, crossing her arms over her chest.] First and foremost, we're stuck here until whoever brought us here wants to send us home. At least that's what everyone's told me, but my big brother'll find me 'nd then we'll kick some ass 'nd get everyone sent home.

Also they use pocket watches as, like, smart phones but don't have the internet or electricity.

What? But that doesn't make sense. How can anyone get signal if there's no electricity?

I donno. Magic? They've got a whole network too. It's weiiiiiird.

Oh. Magic. Well, okay.

[He mutters "magic internet" under his breath and shakes his head.]

And people, like. Live like that? Seriously?

I guess they don't have much of a choice, all things considered. But man has it been boring and I've only been here for a little while! It was okay at first 'cause I still had my phone, so I could play games on it. [And she fishes said phone with the most obnoxious phone case out of her jacket pocket to show him.] But it died.

[Okay there are priorities and then there's:]

[Naomi blinks, looking from her phone case to him. Then she's beaming.]

You like it? I made it myself!

Yeah? Hell, that's awesome. Really digging that soft nineties aesthetic.
