State of the City - November
STATE OF THE CITY
November 2015
November 2015
GENERAL OOC INFO:
November has arrived! The test drive and general CR meme are up and ready for your use, so get out there to make our prospective players feel welcome! Giving some love to each other is important too - make sure you give the CR meme a look, you never know how that strange new piece of CR might turn out.
We are still looking for new plot/event suggestions! No matter how large, small, how silly, how elaborate or how plot-specific your ideas might be, we want to hear them! Please don't be shy, the post is screened so that anything suggested is just between yourself and the mods unless you would like to have it be otherwise. Ruby City has a large and imaginative playerbase, and we love hearing all of your ideas.
METAPLOT INFO:
So what's going on with the city as a whole?
The Rumor War events have far-reaching consequences that aren't only restricted to the few days or weeks following their conclusions. Each event, and those NPCs whose influence over Ikaros and the city itself as a result, cause permanent alterations to the way that the city functions and its general appearance.
An early win in the first Rumor War event by the Virtue of Charity gave the city rations a small boost. Everything from food and gardening supplies, to clothes and weapons were made more plentiful. Charity doesn't discriminate, after all. Additionally, a victory by Pride restored part of the wall around the city.
Most recently, a landslide win by Kindness has temporarily taken the edge off the ferocity of some of the more violent wildlife, as well as boosting the medical supplies in the clinic. For a time, there was also an increase of stock at the hardware store to help with the rebuilding of the still partly-damaged northern quarter.
While several of the NPCs are still mistrustful of the people residing in the city, some are open to conversation and even questioning, up to a point. Some of those who are are being cooperative are making attempts to persuade others to do the same, with varied results. The benefits of success would, of course, be that the Virtues and Vices holding stronger and more reliable abilities will be more willing to be helpful. NPCs can be contacted using the NPC contact pages, but please be patient! Some of them take longer than others to answer their watches.
NOTE: The action records log will remain open until November 8th to allow for backtagging, at which point the 'winner' will be decided. Don't forget to make note of your characters' decisions!
EVENT LIST FOR THE MONTH:
A playbook for your PCs
NOVEMBER 05 Remember, remember...
Though it may be a mystery to most and only a vague point of general knowledge to others, the fifth of November has long been held in certain parts of a certain world to be a day put aside to build a large bonfire and set it alight. Add a few colourful explosives, and you just might have a party! Though the weather is wet and cool at the start of the month, the night of the fifth is strangely dry, with an unlit pile of wood and flammable scraps provided by a mysterious benefactor set up in park. Though not set out on display, fireworks will be more than available in the general store, from small boxes of sparklers to large rockets that wouldn't look out of place in the middle of a military armoury.
Everyone is, of course, encouraged to have fun with these toys, as well as with the toffee apples - still around despite the end of Halloween - hot chocolate mixes, s'mores ingredients and other traditional fare.
Just don't eat too much treacle toffee, it tends to stick your teeth together.
The fireworks will be available through the weekend, when all those not removed from the stores will vanish. Any that you took for yourself, you can keep.
NOVEMBER 01 - NOVEMBER 30 In that cold November rain
Keeping in mind that the month of November is a busy one for many, and that the previous month was difficult for a number of charcters, it seems that the weeks leading up to November will be quiet ones.
Of course, just because things aren't actively being forced on the residents doesn't mean that things can't be made difficult.
November is expected to be cold, but the end of the first week brings colder weather than would reasonably be expected for this time of year. Wrapping up will do the trick at first, but watch your fingers and the tips of your ears - those are always the first to go. The supplies of food in the general store begin a slow but steady decline, leaving enough for most to get by on basic meals... but there is the subtle encouragement towards those searching for food to find a way to supplement it with foraging, hunting or trading.
Venturing north in exploration of the island will reveal that the waterfall near the head of the northernmost river has already frozen almost solid, though the sound of the river behind it and the sluggish movement of the water beyond shows that it has not yet given itself entirely to the unnatural frost. From the third week of November onwards, high winds after nightfall are liable to cause property damage and unexpected visitors in the form of smaller native life caught in the gales. Finally, late November will bring a fall of snow, leading into December. Keep an eye on the weather report for more details!
Weather woes aside, there is a peculiar spirit of giving suffusing the city at this time of year. A time to be thankful for what you have, and to share it with others, perhaps? Why not speak to that person you have never approached before? It could be the best thing that you ever do.
STATE OF THE CITY:
Weekly Weather Report | Threat Report
WEATHER:
Novemer is going to be an odd month as far as the weather is concerned. Winters in Ruby City are always harsh, but this one seems to be starting particularly early, with cold snaps, frost, thick fog in the mornings and even snow towards the end of the month.
The fog is that strange, unnaturally thick, and of the type that a few months ago was tugging at people's clothes and whispering close to their ears. Those walking out in it will notice the same phenomenon, though it seems that this time whatever is in the fog is becoming a little more forceful...
ANIMALS AND BESTIARY INFO:
Many of the smaller native creatures have now ventured into hibernation, leaving the forest and plains quieter, but also offering easy prey for those who are able to find them. Are you really that type of person? Maybe you are.
Spirit-based creatures, such as the ghosts occasionally seen around the city and city boundaries, the park creatures, wendigos and wisps are becoming increasingly active following a spike in the month of October. Following wisps is likely to lead you into trouble with other, less savoury creatures, though such things are open for you to enjoy and can be arranged with the mods if they involve one of the more sentient beasts marked for moderator approval in the bestiary. If you don't see a creature there that you would like to run into, please do submit it using the form at the bottom of the page and we will consider adding it to our list!
STORES AND SUPPLIES:
Though the most basic of supplies still line the shelves, over the course of November the levels of stock will show a slow but visible decline. Sharing is caring, folks... or you could just hoard all the good stuff for yourself.

A new clinic volunteers post will soon be made available under Remus Lupin's journal, however we are now short any kind of patrol roster! If anyone wishes to start one up and requires any mod assistance, please let us know.
Anything to tell us? Let us know below!
CLOSING STATEMENT:
The game's activity check will be going up on Thursday, November 5th! If you have been accepted into the game within the last activity period or have been on hiatus for two weeks or more within the last activity period, you will be exempt from the check. Anyone currently holding a strike will not be required to wipe it in the month immediately following, so please don't worry if you haven't managed to make double activity. If for any reason you have had difficulty gaining enough activity this month, please get in touch with us.
The process to improve things in the game is still an ongoing and unfortunately slow one due to current RL commitments of the moderators involved, but please rest assured that we are working on it! In the meantime, we more than encourage your input and suggestions and always want to hear what you have to say, so please do let us know if you have any suggestions at all. We thank you from the bottoms of our hearts for your patience - you're all fantastic.
For this month, the Emporium will be CLOSED. However, it will reopen at the start of December as a consistent feature of the city which will shift position week to week. As such, you will be able to place requests at any time, to be answered within seven days. Please keep an eye on the page if the store is expected to move in the middle of your waiting period! Those requests still waiting will be dealt with within the next seven days - don't worry if others have been seen to and yours hasn't, it just means we're cooking up something special for you.
As of December, the ghostly boardwalk will also be consistently available after dark. This will be added to the residences map, along with the track that the trolley takes on its trips to and from the area.
Thank you, and have a good November!
