I don't want you to be human. I don't want you to have ideas and interests. I want you to be the monster at the end of the book, so I can finish it and close it and never have to look at it again. But you're not. Life isn't like that, and I can't keep telling myself stories as a way of coping when you're here in person to tear them all down. You turned everything on its head just by showing up, like you always do, and now I don't know what I'm supposed to do.

I don't want you to like me. I don't want you to share my interests. I don't want to know more about you, and find out that I'm more like you than I know I am already.

There's a lot of people here who'd look down on me for that. Bullying you while I'm strong and you're weak would leave as bad of a taste in my mouth as it did in Cairo, so it's not like I'm going to act out of revenge for things you haven't done yet. But that also doesn't mean I'd hesitate to put you out of commission just because you're a little kid, either. If I had to.
I haven't forgotten what you'll do to me. I'm never going to.

You're so angry. And I understand why, and I won't downplay that, but at the same time sometimes you're too defensive. I'll try not to openly laugh at you, though.

We're even more similar than I thought we would be. Especially now, like this, with you so caught off guard and afraid. It makes me wonder a lot of things - what would I have been if not for such-and-such? What would you have been if you'd had those things? I hate that chance and cruelty took so much away from you.
