[JULY] Test Drive

Thinking of apping a character but not sure they'll fit in the city walls?

Have no fear, a meme for you is here.

Directions:
  • Use an RNG to choose a location and prompt, or wait for someone else to tag.

  • Post with your character with their name and canon on top!

  • If you'd like, leave contact info for people to get in contact for plotting and other such shenans.

  • Tag around! Make friends. Don't be afraid to chat OOC while tagging.

Locations

1.TRAIN STATION - The place where everyone gets dumped off at. Your first view of Ruby City, complete with informational posters telling you all about where you've ended up.
2. THE BEACH - Lovely year-round, though in the winter months, you're probably not likely to dip your toes in.
3. THE BLACK STALLION - A rather quaint bar. Supposedly, the burgers are great, but you don't see anyone immediately who's willing to serve you. Maybe you're meant to get it yourself.
4. THE OBELISK - The tall monolith in the center of the city marks the gathering place of many events, though right now it seems to be cold and dark.
5. THE CLOCKTOWER - Offering an impressive view of the city, several residents come here to clear their heads, if they don't mind braving the narrow staircase.
6. THE COFFEE JOINT - the front windows are warm and welcoming, and it seems there's always someone friendly enough to fix you a cup when you wander through.
7. THE CATACOMBS - Intrepid, aren't you? Those weird holes may beg exploring, but go too deep and you're going to be in a lot of trouble, considering the viciousness of the creatures held within.
8. THE CITY STREETS - All told, Ruby City is a lovely place, once you get past the fact that several of the buildings look derelict and on the verge of falling down. There's no harm in doing a little sightseeing.
9. THE PARK - You thought it'd be a lovely stroll, but the park is anything but friendly, if those approaching wolf-like creatures are any indication.
10. CHOOSE YOUR OWN - Don't like what we've come up with? Feel like picking your own place? There's a whole host of lovely locations to choose from in the City.

Scenarios

1. NEW ARRIVAL - Step off that train, walk down the street. People usually latch on to newcomers to try and help them out. Even if you look shy, the other residents probably won't be!
2. WATCH TALK - Feeling lost? Disoriented? Don't worry, everyone feels that way on their first day. Fortunately - if the signs at the station are to believed - the watch in your pocket can be used to talk to whoever else might be here.
3. BAD WEATHER - Aw, man. Whether it's snow, or rain, or just plain cold, today was definitely the wrong day to get dumped off in a City in the middle of nowhere.
4. A RUN-IN - Maybe you weren't watching. Maybe they weren't. Either way, you just bumped into someone. Perhaps apologies are in order?
5. HELP, IT HURTS - Clumsy, aren't you? Perhaps wherever the train brought you from wasn't so friendly, or you just tripped and twisted your ankle. Either way, you're in a bit of pain. Hopefully someone will notice your booboos and help patch you up.
6. HUNGRY - It isn't very obvious sometimes that restaurants are what they are, especially in a place like Ruby City. Where can a person go to get a bite to eat around here?
7. MISTAKEN IDENTITY - Hey, there's someone you know! --Or maybe not.
8. BEING FOLLOWED - Maybe you're just being paranoid, or maybe you've got a reason to be afraid. Whatever it is, it feels like there's eyes on you...
9. EVENTS - Feel free to look through our event tag!
10. CHOOSE YOUR OWN - Don't like any of these ideas? Feel free to come up with your own!

Germany wanders the streets of an unknown town, though if the signs at the station he arrived at are any indication the place is called Ruby City. The name doesn't ring any bells and certainly isn't the place he should be. It's a planned city, that much he can tell as he takes in street after street and they slowly form a map in his mind. If it wasn't there just wouldn't be any way for the streets to look so orderly. But who planned it and which country is this? The English name excludes some candidates right away.

What is even stranger is how deserted the place is. Nobody in the streets, not even any kids on their way home from school. If there even is a school for he sure didn't see one. A ghost town. Maybe one of America's nuclear testing sites from a few decades back? But the buildings look too old and weren't those somewhere in the desert.

Lost in deep thought, Germany finally reaches a big obelisk in what he assumes is the city's centre. And just because luck finally decided to look his way, he isn't alone. Someone is standing next to the obelisk and he approaches that someone, calling to them in a loud and clear voice. Even if he tried he couldn't do it any differently.

"Hey, you!"

{{OOC: If you prefer bracket style we can happily switch to that!}}

i. has anybody seen a group of really dumb boys?
[Yona is afraid.]

[Which really, there isn't anything particularly new about feeling afraid — not anymore, sometimes Yona thinks it's become infused with the very essence of her being at this point and maybe it has — but it felt like there had been a brief respite from fear before she found herself stepping off the train. She'd been full of certainty about the path that she was going to walk even if she didn't know the places that it would take her, and she knew that there would be a number of things that were hard to look at and even more difficult to do. But she knew and she felt comforted at knowing that she wouldn't be going at it alone.]

[And maybe that's what makes this fear feel a little different. She steps off the train and Yona is aware that she is utterly alone. For the first time in her life, she's alone. Yona tries to hope that's the not case, not really. Hak and the others... They must have just gone on ahead looking for her, right? So, what does she do? Does she find a place to sit in the train station and wait for one of them to come back or does she press on and try to find them?]

[She decides to walk.]

[Her knees feel weak and her legs are shaking with nearly every step, her stomach twisting and flopping itself into knots as she's careful to keep the hood of her cloak drawn up. Walking into the city itself... Nothing even looks close her father's kingdom. She feels like crying and bites her lip so hard she thinks she's about to make it bleed to keep from doing it, but eventually she has to dart quickly into an alleyway because she can't take it anymore. She lets herself sink down to her knees, hand covering her mouth as she shakes with sobs. She hates that she's crying, but she hates more that she doesn't hear the sound of hurried footsteps followed by Hak's heavy hand on her shoulder or Yoon's chiding her for being such a pain as he sits with her on the ground for a little while.]

[When it passes, she feels raw and still a little sick to her stomach, but she wipes at her eyes. Enough of that. She's grown stronger so she could take care of herself, so people wouldn't have to always look after her. Now is the time to prove it to herself that she has indeed become as strong as she thinks. Yona pushes herself back up to her feet, adjusting her hood and stands a moment to draw a deep breath. She'll wait in this city for the others. And when they find her, they'll see that if they were worried about her, they didn't need to be.]

[Yona turns and goes back to wandering the city.]
ii. is this thing on?
[When the camera first turns on, it's being held a little too close and it's a lovely view of the top of someone's head and the sky.]

I can't tell if it's working... I hope it is. [she mumbles to herself. But A few seconds more and Yona holds the watch out well enough in front herself to show more than just her red hair. She smiles after just another moment.]

Hello, everyone. My name is... [Someone listening closely might have heard the softly spoken Yo that slipped out of her, but it's entirely possible to have missed it because now she needs a moment to think. She's letting herself be seen by doing this (assuming the watch is working as intended) and that's risky in of itself. But even still, she probably shouldn't be announcing to whoever might be listening or watching what her name is. She carefully corrects herself by clearing her throat with an apologetic smile.] Sorry. Rina. My name is Rina.

I know it's probably a little impudent of me to ask this since I'm new and everything, but if anyone happens to know anything about how to fight with a sword... Well, I'm only just beginning to learn, but I want to get better. If anyone has the time or is willing to teach me, I can't really promise you anything in return. I'm not... [Yona laughs a little.] I'm not very good at a lot of things like cooking and sewing, and I can't really teach you anything in return, but I've been practicing a lot with my bow and arrow lately, so I'm actually not bad at hunting and I can butcher the meat for you, too.

Or we can always work something else out, but I promise I won't let it be a waste of your time. I promise.
iii. wabbit season or duck season
[And whether or not Yona actually receives any offers for instruction or if anyone wants her to hunt for them, Yona does head into the woods by herself eventually. It's first for the sake of practice. She chooses a large enough tree and practices firing arrow after arrow. It seems so long ago now that she used to shake under the weight and tension of drawing back the bow, but now there's hardly ever a tremor except when she begins to hit her upper limit of shots she can take consecutively before her arms tire. But she doesn't wish to push herself to that extreme when she still has work to do.]

[After a handful of practice shots, Yona collects her arrows and moves deeper into the woods. Yoon and Hak both taught Yona some about tracking, but she's nowhere near as adept as Hak or as knowledgeable about all the signs of nearby game as Yoon is. So, it takes her a lot longer to find anything than it would if she was with either of them. Or with Shin-Ah and his eyes to spot the target from miles and miles off. Fortunately, she's too focused on the task itself to give much thought to missing anyone right now and that's largely why she's out here. It's a good distraction.]

[Eventually though, she does come across a deer and it's with a single arrow that she manages to fell it, which is an amazing stroke of luck. She's quick to shake off her surprise at her success, however, and hurries to be by its side, nearly tripping over some overgrown roots. Yona strokes the deer with a somber expression as she pulls free her knife.]

I'm sorry, [she says softly before ending the deer's suffering.]

[Yona sets her knife aside and seems to be staring at the deer for a long moment, but in reality, she's saying a quiet prayer before she sets to work with butchering it. Unfortunately, while she works, Yona isn't entirely aware of her surroundings. She's too used to having company when she hunts and someone else to be watchful of the woods around her, and she's unaware of the dangers that could lie just beyond the brush...]

one. train station

[One of the benefits of arriving in a strange place still furnished with your very own extremely lethal weapon is that there's no question as to what to do first. Not that there ever is, with Hak; he so rarely hesitates, could probably stand to do it more, but in a crisis, at least, he's dependable.]

[The trouble, the first thing he needs to fix, is that no one is here to depend on him. That isn't correct. This isn't Kouka, of course, but that's a secondary concern. He was brought here by an enemy, obviously, and as such his job is to kill them and find Yona, not necessarily in that order. Ideally not in that order.]

[He could really do with a handful of dragons right now. Figures that when you need them they're nowhere around.]

[In any case: he starts making his way away from the train station. He won't get far, though. Because the first person he meets, if they get close enough, will have the blade of his hsu quandao resting delicately against their throat and a blank, Very Done stare leveled in their direction.]

Take me to whoever's in charge. And do it quickly if you don't want to get a lot shorter.

[He's so cool.]

two. network

[Witness: one staring face. Hak is lots of things, many of them good, even, but none of them are tech savvy, so. He just starts poking at the buttons at a fairly dizzying speed. Whoop, his screen's turned sideways. Whoop, it's black and white now. Black and white and upside down. Sepia! Who knew. Normal again, and—]

[And now it's voice. There's silence for a moment before he speaks, flatly.]

Did it stop doing that? Finally. Who needs that . . .

I need new clothes. These have blood on them. Where can I find those?

[A beat. And another. Eventually:]

It's not mine.
