FIVE YEARS LATER...

HOW TO PLAY:

Nothing truly stagnates in Ruby City, but what if it did? What if things stayed consistent--or, well, as consistent as the usual chaos of day-to-day life--for five years? Time is weird, but surely your characters are a bit different: whether in physical appearance or emotional status. Go wild. Take the time to think about what five years of isolation could do to your character, five years of separation from the outside world. Are they tougher? Weaker? Do they still have hope of leaving?
HOW TO PLAY:
01. Post a toplevel and get creative. This is a meme, after all! Have fun imagining CR possibilities and character devleopment! Really, go wild.
02. Reply to other people's toplevels, build off of what they have laid out.
03. Profit?
Polnareff;
⚔ still super into Bruno, who is now his Bruno, very much so
⚔ can now speak French, English, Italian and (very, very little) Japanese
⚔ Far better at advising Don Giovanna; learning how to be a good consigliere
⚔ helps (has helped?) Giorno organize an actual monetary economy
⚔ has tried to organize patrols around the edges of the city, to keep creatures at by a
⚔ Organizes sports (any kinds of sports, he just likes it, he'll play with/teach literally anyone) periodically, most especially fencing and soccer
⚔ frets a lot about being nearly 30
dio!!!
- around 5'8" in height, tall and lanky and cranky
- he's grown his hair out so it's almost midback in length. he usually keeps it pinned up in a bun or a high ponytail
- enjoys birds, has one, her name is duchess
- can speak italian more fluently
- goes by the name inizio moreso than dio
- still a god damn nerd who appreciates education and SCHOOL
- a few nights out of the week he likes to sleep up in the observatory to study the stars. duchess comes with him.
- he isn't afraid of the woods anymore
- his time stop has gotten longer but it seems to be capped at five seconds and he isn't that interested in trying to push it any further than that
- more often now he has his stand, the world, out with him. he is currently trying to teach his stand how to play chess with him.

They've gotten closer, but there are things Inizio can't do with him. They've long since learned that seeing the World will only lead to grief; they know that certain phrases will send Polnareff reeling. But those are the bad days-- and as more and more time passes, the bad days become far less frequent.
He's become quite good at fencing. Very good, actually, to the point where Polnareff has stopped fudging their competitions. He loses more than he wins, but it's only a matter of time before that changes, god knows. But it's early autumn, and the leaves are crisp, and it's no time to be indoors. So, instead: football. Soccer, as the Americans call it, and he'd had to correct some people on that the first time he'd brought the subject up on the network. Football, and Jotaro had found him a ball some years ago, and he's always ready to play.]
I can't believe you know rugby, but not football. Who likes rugby over football?
[He says it with a distracted air. He's too preoccupied with bouncing the ball off his knees, seeing how long he can keep it midair.]
no subject
As he watches Polnareff bouncing the soccer ball on his knee Dio walks over and just. Knocks it away before it hits Polnareff's knee again.]
So show me how to play - unless that was it, in which case I don't want to learn anymore.

In some ways, of course, he had already been grown up from the day they met. Sixteen and more in control of himself than anyone had a right to be at that age, Giorno had already been working to master his surroundings. Ruby City wasn't Napoli, but still he worked to make it as safe and secure a place as possible.
But there's a difference between that boy and the man Giorno has become. What sixteen year old Giorno struggled with, Don Giovanna now works on with ease. He controls portions of Ruby City now-- truly controls them, and his influence isn't always apparent, but it's certainly there. There's an economy now, small but vibrant, and if he were to guess Polnareff would bet about half the businesses got their start through Giorno's guidance.
Polnareff has grown, too. He's still not the perfect consigliere-- but five years is a long time to learn, and he's gotten far better. He's grown quieter, more thoughtful; he knows when to say what he thinks and when to shut up. Whether or not he actually shuts up is up for debate, but at least he's learning when he ought to.
Anyway. Some things haven't changed. Giorno is more his son than ever. He doesn't do his hair half as often as he used to, but it's a soothing ritual when they do. Sometimes they talk about politics or what Giorno is doing in the city; sometimes they talk about Mista or Bruno; sometimes they just sit in silence.]
Can you even see in those?
[He says it with a smile as Giorno comes into the mansion, wearing those sunglasses. Aviators, Papa, Giorno corrected him once, his sigh gusty, and since then Polnareff has always referred to them by the wrong name.]
no subject
Even if I couldn't, Papa, it wouldn't matter, would it? I can tell where you are without them.
[Gold Experience darts out, then, and pokes him in the middle of the forehead with two very pointy fingers, then drapes his arms around his shoulders, rubs his cheek against Polnareff's. Giorno smiles faintly and turns a page in the book he's reading.]
Why are you being so rude today, hm?
no subject
It was an honest question, Giogio. You can't blame me for wanting to learn more.
[A beat, and then, to Gold Experience:]
Snuggling against me doesn't erase the fact you just poked me, you know. I love you, but I don't have that poor a memory yet.
no subject
[So serene, so innocent. He has never done anything wrong in his life. Gold Experience, meanwhile, gives Polnareff a very innocent look. And then, a moment later, a rose out of nowhere. Giorno puts his chin in his hand.]
What a charming Stand. I wonder where he gets it from.
no subject
[He takes the rose with a huff of laughter. He never would have been this serene with Gold Experience in the past. He'd never disliked him, no, but this kind of comfortable closeness has only developed relatively recently.]
When you're ready, I have some reports for you.
no subject
[He closes his book, though, and tips his chin up at Polnareff, gesturing at the opposite seat. Gold Experience pats Polnareff's hair very very gently so as not to mess it up, and then comes to sit on the arm of Giorno's chair, upright and alert.]
And I am also always ready. So please, share.
no subject
There's more people who want to join up to fight any monsters that come in from the woods. Which is fine, except there's such a thing as too much firepower, so maybe we could start setting up some kind of second-rotation guard. Two, I've got two people asking if they can rent out some of the business you bought, so we could go over that. And--
[He wrinkles his nose. He is not fond of point three.]
We should probably go over the economy thing a bit more.
no subject
Do you want to talk about your least favorite thing first or last?
no subject
[Still, though: ugh.]
I think you're on the right track with expanding businesses, but more people are going to have to start running them if we don't just want it to be an economy of you.
no subject
[Best to get through it quickly, though, so that Polnareff stops suffering so much.]
Incentives for opening businesses, perhaps? Tax benefits?
no subject
no subject
How does four months sound?
no subject
no subject
[He is, after all, very persuasive.]
What else?
no subject
no subject
I think we're doing well, to start out with.
no subject
[But . . . Polnareff shifts, leaning his chin on his arms as he thinks.]
I think that's about it for economics, unless you've got something specific you want to go over.
no subject
Second rotation next?
no subject
[See, now, this is a subject he can warm to. Polnareff smiles a little, though his voice is serious.]
We've got seven people who've asked me about joining over the past few weeks. That's enough for a squad. Either we put them all together for a quiet hour, or we put one in each rotation and so they learn that way. But either way, they learn, and in two weeks we've got a second rotation and a full first one instead of two guys every hour.
no subject
[His smile, now, is admiring.]
You've always been best at this part of it.
Hinata
Ω Openly uses his talents now and his eyes stay glowing red.
Ω Much more stable, and confident.
Ω Very much a ranger type of fighter, he favors bows and knives. When he fights he can seemingly melt into his surroundings.
Ω still dating Nagito and Chiaki, now living in the same house with them.
Ω Still has several animals, and never without his dragon.
Ω Hinata investigates the mysteries of the city but also serves as a scout when necessary to whatever appears outside the walls.
Ω Has been working to see if he can find a way for him, Chiaki, and Nagito to all go home to the same world.
Ω Grew his hair out for a bit then chopped it shorter, but still longer than his hair used to be.

» Stands a solid 188cm / 6'2" now, with whipcord musculature on a slightly broader frame.
» Doesn't bother with cutting his hair except for when it itches his shoulders.
» Spends at least one day a week in his sniper's nest at the top of the clocktower with the rifle he's picked up from the Emporium at some point.
… And scares the odd newcomer when he fires it – it's a railgun, after all. [Hunting in the woods from the comfort of his nest in the city, just 'cause 5000m+ effective range. He does clean up afterwards, of course.]
» Has enhanced his bionic arm to the best of his ability. Having combined both of its 'modes', he can carry the theatre's piano (and then some) with ease in the one hand and land 30 straight punches in one second without needing to do any fancy arm movements to switch between the two.
» Takes on the role of local blacksmith when it suits him / when no-one else is in the forge. He makes about two blades a month, sometimes more.
… Most are gifted to others, though he's got a dozen or two for himself (mostly daggers / fighting knives and throwing knives).
» Is far more proficient in speaking French, but has lost some of his Banu fluency.
» Plays piano concerts in the theatre every so often.
… Never expects to draw much of a crowd, but still gets decent attendance numbers for the given city population.
» Gets along well enough with just about everybody, from the Elves to the Mafia.
… Doesn't actually run/own a shop/business, though he probably could.
» Has about as much a hope of leaving as when he arrived; that is, not much, but enough for him to support those who have a stronger desire to do so.
