OOC Info
GENERAL INFO:Welcome to April! We’d like to extend a huge and heartfelt hello towards all our new players, both those who apped in from the fourth wall and those who are here the more traditional way! We’re very excited to have you join us, and can’t wait to get started.
We’d like to first and foremost direct your attention once more to the Plot Submissions page and give us some of your ideas! We’ve got some good ones coming up over the next few months, but we’d always love more. If there’s a certain type of event our veteran players miss and haven’t seen in a fair bit, we’d love to hear from them!
As a reminder, our Bestiary page is open for submissions for all kinds of creatures. And finally, for general game thoughts, our Suggestions Post is always open. Please drop any thoughts you have in there--your feedback helps us keep the game at its best!
A couple more links, and then we'll get to the good stuff! Our General CR Meme is up again; we encourage you to check it out, be brave, ask new people for CR. And if you’re gunning for another character (or enabling a friend!), try this month’s Test Drive Meme.
WHAT'S HAPPENING:☆ As you can tell, we've changed the formatting of our State of the City! Hopefully this will make it easier to navigate and use, especially making the IC portions more easily accessible. Thanks to all of you who gave feedback, and a special shout-out to Asher for providing us with specific ideas about SotC structure!
☆ We’ve received your responses to our Player Poll, and found them extremely helpful! We’re going over them intently, and will be putting up a response on Sunday!
☆ To that end, our activity check is first and foremost going to be improved. This month will be business as usual, but stay tuned for an announcement soon on upcoming changes!
☆ The Crane Game, Emporium, and Mailbox remain open!
IC Info
OVERVIEW:An odd phenomenon has taken place this month: the leading counts belonged to kindness (as usual) and wrath, creating an interesting impasse when it comes to the town’s behavior. This unique split appears to be presenting itself very literally: as a divide in the month’s proceedings.
This is shown most in the weather, with the first half of the month being rather cool and pleasant and the second half lending itself to violent thunderstorms. You can read more about this in the proper weather section!
The other part of the effects this month is more subtle and more potentially dangerous: while the beginning of the month follows March in being almost monster encounter-free, that blessed period of rest starts to lessen as April continues, bringing more and more encounters--even tame ones--to the city proper. By the end of the month, it’s almost less likely to not run into some creature fresh out of hibernation. If you want to coordinate a specific encounter with the mods, such as a wendigo or something just as dangerous, please contact us! Our bestiary is fresh and in need of some use.
WEATHER:High/Low Temps: 60F (14C) / 33F (1C)
WEEK ONE (April 1st - April 7th) - Warm(ish) with a good chance of a little rain each day. More notable during the first week with higher levels of humidity, but pleasant overall.
WEEK TWO (April 8th - April 14th) - Good chance of rain, with the breaks of sun in between not quite managing to dry the ground off completely, leaving constant puddles. Very occasional snow showers that cause an inconvenient slush.
WEEK THREE (April 15th - April 21st) - Warmer weather with rainstorms becoming thunderstorms, slowly increasing in violence.
WEEK FOUR (April 22nd - April 30th) - A thunderstorm nearly every afternoon, but with relatively clear nights and mornings and slowly warming weather into May.
FLORA AND FAUNA:In April, with the weather to a more consistent warmth despite the occasional frosty morning, life is returning in full to the city and the areas around it. More colour is added to the plains, hillsides, and the edges and clearings of the forests as flowers begin to bloom in earnest and greenery revives from its long winter sleep. Edible greens, herbs and some fruits are coming into season and can be found in the wild, but it may also be a good time to start planting in the city’s greenhouses.
The woods themselves are noisy with life once again, both natural and not so natural. It would not be too uncommon a thing to feel eyes on you while walking through the trees, or to hear a soft giggle just a little too close to your ear. The revival of the forest’s many denizens makes it a somewhat more dangerous place to enter unprepared, as the spriggans do not take kindly to wanderers in their territory and the dryad natives are not always around to lend a hand in the form of a well-timed rescue.
Some other, far smaller creatures are getting into the spirit of the month… or rather, they are taking the spirit of the first of the month and rolling with it. Throughout the whole of April the mischievous fairies will be on top form, tricking residents with harmless optical illusions and manipulation of light, as well as moving objects that belong to them around their homes (and sometimes into other people’s homes!). It’s all in good fun, but they certainly won’t be taking any responsibility if their pranks are taken the wrong way…
STORES AND SUPPLIES:April kicks off with a noticeable upswing of prank-worthy items stocking the shelves. Electric buzzers that can hide in your hand, flowers that squirt water, whoopee cushions and saran wrap (for the more creative minded pranksters): all are available for your characters this month!
Food supplies are swelling, but what your characters might notice above all are a sudden surplus of eggs. There’s no variety involved; these are simply regular chicken eggs, but boy are there a lot. Point in fact, they seem to have edged the other foods out of the line a bit: things like bread, cheese, milk, even fish and meat have been mostly replaced by the eggs. While it’s far from impossible to find other foods, your characters are going to have to search a fair bit.
Hope you all remember those egg recipes from January!
Events
April 5th - April 12th Time Slip [submitted by Alex]Spring is a time of rebirth and revitalization, and the city seems to be responding accordingly. On the morning of the fifth, city residents may find themselves...well, younger. Whether by a few months, a few years, or a few decades, they will wake up as a physically younger version of themselves, with all the abilities or lack thereof that apply.
However, the mental half of that situation is a bit trickier: at the beginning of the event, residents will remember everything they normally would, essentially being their average every-day self in a younger body. As the week continues, though, they will find that their memories past their physical age start to slip away as they fully start to become their younger selves, mentally and emotionally.
The timeframe of this transition is entirely up to the player: the character can either experience the change in memories gradually, or they can start off the event remembering nothing past their apparent age, or they can spend the entire duration with all their memories...there are many choices! You can get as specific as you want with the younger canonpoint, as well, from a general age range to a single moment in the character's life, even if it's a point they themselves don't recall.
At the end of the event, all characters will revert back to their usual selves, though the memories and emotions may linger for weeks. They will remember everything that happened to them over the course of the event, though their experiences will naturally be colored by their state at the time.
April 21st - April 24th What’s Mine Is Yours [submitted by Jamie]Speaking of renewal and restarting, the twenty-first brings its own set of switcheroos. As soon as characters wake up, they will notice something different about themselves, something integral to their being: their abilities. Perhaps they're gone entirely, or maybe there's something different in their place--maybe your character uses fire magic on a daily basis, only to have that power replaced by something on the colder side of things. This effect is instantaneous, and city-wide.
Of course, the city doesn't always give and take at its own expense, and residents may soon discover that their newfound abilities aren't so new at all: they simply belong to other people in town, with these other people possessing their abilities and all the burdens that come with them. For example, say that one character is a vampire, and that particular trait gets passed to another character. This second character would have the ability to turn into a bat, but they would also be hurt by the sun.
On an OOC level, the process breaks down like this: on the fifth, when the Activity Check goes up, an opt-in post will also go up, allowing you to put in your character's abilities to be swapped with someone else's. If your character is an entirely mundane being with no real supernatural powers to speak of, you have the option to submit them as depowered, which, when swapped with another (powered) character, will simply take away that second character's powers with nothing except perhaps a particularly normal skill, like ice-skating, in return. Perhaps not an equitable trade, but still extremely fun to play with!
The opt-in will close on the 7th, and results will be posted that same day, giving players a full two weeks before the event to coordinate and plot.

Closing Statement
Once again, we want to thank you, our phenomenal playerbase, for helping us constantly improve our game. We have every confidence that as the months pass, your experience and our game both will only improve. As a reminder, Activity Check will be going up on the 5th.
Keep those applications and suggestions coming in, and have an excellent April, Ruby Citizens!
QUESTIONS
no subject
Are players who want to participate in the plot allowed to coordinate power swaps amongst themselves, or is entering them in the roulette mandatory for plot participation? As-written the paragraph seems to indicate that participation in the roulette is the only way to participate period, and I just wanted to double-check and make sure of how this is going to work!
Thanks, mods!

However, we are happy to include a space in the sign-ups for opt-outs--ie, if there's a type of power you definitely don't want for your character, should RNG fall that way we will simply roll again.
