IC Info
OVERVIEW:
Surprising absolutely none of you apparently absurdly nice people, Kindness takes a sweeping win for April, securing it an even higher lead overall. For information on how this affects city processes...well. Let’s just say that the creatures in town are definitely feeling the kindness bug--maybe a little too much. The first event just below has the details on how this past month’s results are touching Ruby City in May. In addition to that, residents may find things they’ve lost sitting out in the open of their homes, a slight bit of odd convenience in a usually inconsistent town.

A secondary lead by Gluttony gives residents some better and more interesting food in stores, outlined in that section below.

WEATHER:
High/Low Temps: 69F (21C) / 43F (6C)

WEEK ONE (May 1st - May 7th) - Though warm, the first week of May remains reasonably wet with scattered showers throughout. The weather should still be pleasant enough to be enjoyed, but keep an umbrella with you.
WEEK TWO (May 8th - May 14th) - More sunshine with a few brief showers that should not last more than half a day. The warmth following will dry the ground quickly, and the weather will be fair to good overall.
WEEK THREE (May 15th - May 21st) - Cloudy with some short periods of sun. There will be no rain this week, but the humidity caused by the low clouds and mild temperatures might make some people wish for it.
WEEK FOUR (May 22nd - May 31st) - Fair and sunny will mark the end of May, with the weather clearly moving towards something that better resembles summer.

FLORA AND FAUNA:
While all creatures this month are unusually active--more on that below--even the normal, mundane ones can be spotted around more frequently, sometimes even inside resident’s homes. It’s not unusual to spot some chipmunks or birds mysteriously inside, but this may escalate to even larger animals, like deer or the occasional stray cat. There appears to be no point of entry for these animals, but they arrive nonetheless.

On the flora side of things, a wide variety of flowers are in bloom, from things one would expect from the moderate climate of the city to more exotic plants, cacti and tropical blooms and virtually anything else the mind can conjure up. Some of the more rare ones only exist deep in the woods, an odd contrast to the creatures descending on the city proper.

STORES AND SUPPLIES:
May brings flowers, and it seems the city is eager to facilitate that: wherever you go, gardening supplies are there, ready to be bartered for. Seeds, soil, watering cans, hoes, trowels . . . maybe it’s finally time to start on that garden you’ve been thinking of?

Fruits and vegetables are in high supply as well. Though they’re not, perhaps, the types of fruits and vegetables your characters are used to: dragonfruit, durians, soursop and romanesco . . . all delicious, of course, but certainly a rare treat for the citizens of the city.

Events
May 12th - May 16th Spring Awakening
Hibernation traditionally ends in the early spring, but Ruby City is anything but traditional. As the weather gets warmer and more violent, the city responds accordingly, and the creatures living inside its borders rise up again with the summer. As May begins, residents will notice a sharp uptick in monster activity--mostly in sightings and vague glimpses, inching ever so slightly inside of the city proper.

At the beginning of the event, however, things take a turn for the nasty. Vague glimpses become close brushes, and close brushes become direct encounters with a variety of beasts, both benign and aggressive. Strangely enough, though, even some of the entities should be attacking citizens, they tend not to: when approached, they seem more curious than anything else, and will only attempt to hurt with their usual force when attacked by characters. There's an odd sense of sluggishness about them, with some not seeming to know their own strength, but still wanting to investigate and interact with the people in town, almost playfully.

Even the less social creatures can be found wandering in the city, sometimes even voluntarily approaching citizens. Exceptions to this rule are few but distinct: the three creatures on the red level of the Bestiary--the dragons, the kraken, and the Leviathan--are nowhere to be seen, as usual, but there's an unusual amount of rumbling throughout the month, as if, say, a very large creature was stirring from a seasonal sleep. You know. Something like that.

A post will be put up at the start of the event to consolidate player requests for monsters in the yellow level of the Bestiary, which require mod approval. If the player(s) involved wish, the mods are happy to NPC any monsters, even the ones that don't typically require such, though folks can feel free to run their own threads. At the end of the event, creatures will quietly return to their usual homes, though, if enough bonding has taken place between a resident and one of the monsters, they will not forget the interaction in the future.

May 17th - May 26th Inner Daemons [submitted by Anne]
Ruby City is known for bringing the mythos of the worlds of those that inhabit it to life in strange ways, and it can also do the same for those worlds which are not represented! Mid to late May will bring with it an influx of peculiar creatures which are attached to all individuals in the city, calling themselves daemons.

A daemon is a physical manifestation of a person’s ‘inner self’, always taking the form of an animal. With a human level of intelligence and capable of human speech no matter which form they take, these creatures vary greatly depending upon the person they are linked to and are almost always opposite in gender (though it is possible, if very uncommon, for them to be the same gender).

In pre-pubescence, a daemon’s form will fluctuate depending upon if a certain size or skill-set is desired, or simply on a whim. During adolescence, a person’s daemon will undergo a ‘settling’, during which it permanently takes a form which most closely resembles their person’s innermost character. This form is not always what the person might expect, or even want, but it will be the one which matches them the best!

Ideally, a person and their daemon will stay within a few feet of each other, with the experience of being much further apart being a very uncomfortable one. Longer distances will (without proper training) result in distress and severe pain, and even death. If a person or daemon dies, the other half of the pair will die with them. It is in the best interests of a daemon and their person to keep one another safe and close by.

Daemons will interact with one another in much the same way as their people will. If two people fight, their daemons will likely fight. For couples who are affectionate with each other it would not be unusual to see their daemons snuggling or nuzzling one another. However, the sensations caused by a stranger touching a person’s daemon, or any contact that is unwanted, are entirely unpleasant and akin to revulsion.

All people, even those not from the world where these visible daemons originate, carry daemons with them. They are part of that person and a representation of their innermost, truest self, no matter how different that might be to the self that they present to the world around them. These daemons, when they appear during the event, will act as if they have always been there. They will not be surprised by their own presence, but they will be puzzled at why their respective people do not seem to know who and what they are!

Closing Statement
A more low-key month on the whole, but we’re looking forward to the summer for more immersive and metaplot-relevant events and situations for all of you to play off of! Y’all as a playerbase have been fantastic in giving feedback to changes we make, and we cannot emphasize enough how much we appreciate each and every one of you--even our newer arrivals!

As a reminder, the Activity Check has been changed to have some new rules regarding strikes and cross-canon CR, so be sure to account for them when the Check goes up on the fifth.

Thanks for making this year a great one, Ruby Citizens. Until next time!
