OOC Info
GENERAL INFO:
Happy June, Ruby City! We are officially halfway through the year and just as baffled by that as you are. Thanks to all of you for making this year fantastic so far--despite a few bumps in the road, we on the mod team are very optimistic about the direction that the game is going!

As always, we’d like to first direct your attention to our plot submissions post. We’ve got a great few ideas coming up, thanks to you, and we’d love to see more! Even if it’s a minor suggestion, we’d love to hear it; there’s no idea to small! As a reminder, our general Suggestions Post is always up; if you’ve any feedback, let us know!

WHAT'S HAPPENING:
☆ The monthly CR Meme and Test Drive Meme are up! Make use of them and invite your friends!
☆ There are a few big changes this month, starting with the announcement we made a few days ago--Fi and Kit are leaving the mod team this month. As such, we are going to rearrange a couple things about June's schedule, which we'll go into below. Please send them your best wishes, though, Ruby City-ites! They have been amazing assets to this game as mods and Ruby City wouldn't be the same without them.
☆ As mentioned in the above-linked post, our regularly-scheduled quarterly Player Poll will be rescheduled from June 15 to July 15, with our breakdown of the results going up on July 30. This is for two reasons: one, so we can focus on a smooth transition of mod responsibilities, and two, because Mod Anne will actually be on vacation for a week towards the end of the month. We appreciate your patience on this, and the following player poll will be conducted as previously scheduled (ie on September 15).
☆ We have shuffled some events around! Specifically, the event Excavation, originally slotted to begin June 23, has been moved to begin on August 5. The reason? Excavation is a metaplot event, and we want to be all hands on deck for that one! We've put a less mod-hands-on event in place for the end of June, though, so y'all won't be bored. The calendar has, of course, been updated to reflect this!
☆ On June 15, we will be putting up mod applications! In this case we will be looking for one additional mod. In addition, in the same post, we will be asking for 2-3 post proofreaders to help us go over in detail those game posts that need revision and also proof our edits of those posts to ensure all questions are answered. In this case, we're operating on the many hands make light work principle!
☆ On that note, we do want to apologize for the delay on our updated FAQ. A number of factors have led us to not meeting the deadline we set, which is not fair to you, the players. At this time, we've reset our deadline for finishing the FAQ for August 15 with the intention of providing you with a polished final product once mod team changes have gone through.
☆ The Crane Game, Emporium, and Mailbox remain open!

OVERVIEW:
What's that? It's the sound of Gene crying, because Kindness has garnered exactly zero points this past month. Wild! But all kind things must come to an end, and that extends to weird emotional streaks. This month, the leading position goes to Lust--a first for the vice! Again, wild, but as usual, the city is responding with vigor: the weather is appropriately scorching, a literal representation of the heat of passion.

This warmth extends to the more direct vice: for those naturally inclined towards the hot 'n heavy, things may seem a little, well, a little more enticing. In addition to this, all citizens will be more humorously accident-prone in increasingly more bad-anime-plot-device ways. Experiencing romantic tension? Well, perhaps it's not as tense any longer once you've fallen on top of one another! Or maybe that's not the case. Maybe anime lied to us all.

WEATHER:
High/Low Temps: 90F (C) / 55F (C)

WEEK ONE (June 1st - June 7th) - The month beings warm and sunny, broken up with overcast mornings. The clouds will, more often than not, burn off by midday and the humidity will remain tolerable for almost everyone.
WEEK TWO (June 8th - June 14th) - As the middle of the month approaches, the humidity rises. Clouds become a more constant feature and always seem to hold the promise of rain without every actually delivering.
WEEK THREE (June 15th - June 21st) - The third week begins with a dramatic thunderstorm, though the following day is so warm that most of the evidence of it disappears before noon, with only the deepest puddles remaining. The rest of the week is as warm as the one before it, with overcast days showing more sun than before.
WEEK FOUR (June 22nd - June 30th) - High temperatures herald the end of the month, with a scorching 90 degrees fahrenheit being the high point. Clouds burn off quickly, if they appear at all, and the sunsets are golden.

FLORA AND FAUNA:
Following last month's animal antics, this coming summer may seem oddly tame, though the fauna of Ruby City are still oddly active compared to usual. While most of the rarer animals have made their hasty retreat back into the woods, some have elected to stay in town, taking up residence in empty houses and assorted foliage. It wouldn't be uncommon to spot a family of, say, rabbits, hopping around town like they know the place. Or own it. Either way, it's somewhat alarming.

May flowers bring...well, apparently June flowers, the city has decided. Over the course of the month, increasingly more fragrant and colorful flowers appear around town, even in odd places: in cracked pavement, in empty pots, in dark corners of closets...apparently, the powers that be don't abide to the laws of photosynthesis or agraregulation. While some plants are easily recognized--hydrangeas, roses, azaleas--several may be unfamiliar to most or all citizens, with strange shapes or scents.

STORES AND SUPPLIES:
The stores might first seem confused, but as the month unfolds it will become clearer that they have simply thought of everything. By way of ‘seasonal’ items, both brightly coloured umbrellas (beach and regular), ponchos, and wide-brimmed sunhats are on offer. The sunhats are tempting - very tempting, in fact! No matter how silly you think you might look, the urge to try one on is almost too much to bear… but then you can’t take it off for anything up to three hours afterwards.

By way of foods, seasonal is once again the name of the game. As spring moves wholly into summer, it is the time of bountiful fruit and vegetables, but.. some of them seem strangely ‘off’. While days pass, this strangeness intensifies - oranges taste like strawberries, bananas taste like tomatos… seemingly at random. Turn your nose up, or experiment with the new flavours. The choice is entirely yours.

Events
June 12th - June 16th Broadcast [submitted by Kit]
Have you ever looked at someone and thought, "Boy, that guy has such a poker face--I wish I knew what he was thinking"? Well, this June you've gotten your hypothetical wish! Starting on June 12, every character in the city will temporarily have the power of telepathy.

This is a short event, which means one very important thing: your character most likely won't be able to master control of their broadcast thoughts, unless they already had telepathic powers beforehand. Other than that, anything goes! We anticipate a lot of awkward situations, spilled beans, accidental mental confessions, and--well, chaos, honestly. Go wild!

June 23th - June 28th Trousers of Time [submitted by Alex]
Between this universe and the next (and indeed between every universe) is what one might call "fabric," for lack of a better word. Most of the time that fabric is very sturdy, but sometimes, when conditions are right, the fabric creates something called a Tear. A Tear is a passage between one world and the next, but it's not nearly as stable as a doorway. The multiverse dislikes Tears and the chaos they create, so be warned that no two Tears act exactly the same. Some are open longer, some only for a few moments. For every Tear that's full of hazards there's one that's a walk in the park.

In other words: the only rules about Tears, as far as your characters will begin to discover on June 23, are that they are unstable and they always close. Beyond that, it's an explorer's paradise--or downfall.

In this Bioshock-inspired event, characters will be able to discover small Tears in the fabric of reality around Ruby City. These tears won't lead to alternate versions of Ruby City--at least not yet, because for now the Tears simply aren't stable enough to sustain passage to such a similar world. Instead, the Tears will allow characters to briefly travel to each other's worlds.

We will put a plotting post up in more detail on Sunday, June 18, where you will be able to submit details of your character's worlds and plot with your fellow players about worldhopping. For now, though, start thinking about what kinds of adventures you want your characters to have--world exploration, thrill-seeking, or something else! Depending on the world(s) you choose your character to visit, it could be a lot of casual fun or it could be pretty dangerous. Oh, and one more thing: each character will be able to bring back and keep up to three items from these alternate worlds. As long as it's not gamebreaking and they can carry it, it's all good! Everybody loves a good souvenir.

Closing Statement
It's a bittersweet month for the mod team, having to say goodbye to two such amazing contributors. We would like to re-emphasize how glad we are to have gotten to work with Kit and Fi. They're incredible, thoughtful, creative people, and it's been a real privilege to push this game to be its best with them.

To you, the players, we promise first and foremost to keep this game running in Fi's image--to keep it a fun, lowkey, and easygoing environment for character development and shenanigans. Thanks to Fi and Kit, and to all of you, for all of your help and the love you put into this game!

oathshackledbird: Pondering (Pondering)

For the 'Trousers of Time' (god that's a great name) Event, Diarmuid has two 'worlds' he could kind of call his own, namely because he has lived in two vastly different times. Would any tears to his world only go back to Japan and the time of the Grail War (which is when he was pulled from) or would it be possible to have a tear go back to when he originally lived in Ancient Ireland as well?
