I don't know. Some people are really happy here so maybe prison is the wrong word. But I don't think anyone can leave.

But that makes absolutely no sense. The Queen wouldn't waste happiness on rejects and criminals. [ It's an observation, mostly to himself than for the girl. He rests his hand under his chin, humming. ] It's one of Wonderland's residents' favoured emotions.

What did you do to wind up here?

The Queen isn't here. _{[At least, Regina's the mayor. But we're going with the idea that Grace hasn't made the connection. Of course, they're thinking of different queens.]} I don't think she did this.

I didn't do anything. I was supposed to have a tea party with my Papa.

Nonsense. The Queen rules over the land. One can't simply take her people, or the oysters, without her knowing. [ With some added hand gesturing to his speech; he's making a point, see, Grace? ]

Where's your father, then? Is he here with you? You shouldn't be late for tea, young miss.

Well, somehow it's happened! There are people here from all different kinds of places. The Enchanted Forest, Neverland, England...

_{[She sees his point but she's disagreeing with it.]}

He's... not. But he's coming. I know he is. The tea will stay warm until he gets here.

_{[Yanno, because it's pretend tea.]}

The Enchanted-- [ He shakes his head. ] You mean different worlds? Besides Wonderland and Earth? How can they even get the Looking Glass to work for that long?

[ Excuse him, Grace; Hatter is trying to make sense of all of this and unfortunately this is all either one big hallucination caused by doctors Dee and Dum, or some sort of prison he has never heard of. Frankly, the former seems more bearable and much less risky for the resistance. ]

In that case he better not take long, eh?

[ What is he supposed to tell her, for all he knows she could have been waiting for him just now. ]

I think there might be more worlds than we think can even think there are.

_{[She glances towards the train tracks. She's been waiting a long time, but days aren't as bad as years.]}

He will be on the next train probably.

Well, that certainly isn't impossible. [ And impossible things add another twist to the bigger picture anyway, don't they?

He offers a smile, even a little bow if only to humour the girl. Best to not make her sad when she's waiting for someone so special; he learnt that the hard way, what with Alice being so adamant about finding Jack before going home. ]
