[Poor Jane. She's always been so good about everything, and especially with putting up with him. Him and Jake.]

I was busy bein' a selfish asshole, you don't need to sugar coat it for the sake of sparing my feelings.

[Despite the fact that it's only a short amount of time before a friendly hug starts veering dangerously close to being something that he instinctively shies away from he lets her hang on, keeps his arms around her, because she deserves this more than he deserves to pull away for the sake of his own comfort.]

Jake.. Jake was a mistake, he-- no, I don't mean it like that, but I never should've... [Sigh.] I said you were right, and I meant that, but.. fuck, I was wrong, Jane. I was so wrong about so many fuckin' things.

[Hugging Dirk is like hugging a cat; it can only last for so long but it's great while it lasts. So she'll squeeze him again, maybe take a deep breath of Dirk smelling air and back up enough to look up at him. He can pull away if he likes but she'll keep her arms around him until he decides to do it.]

It's not a mistake to care about people, Dirk. He may be a pain and a complete goober and he's being selfish by hiding away from you but I've been just as bad by acting like I have been and for yelling at him like I did. I wish we didn't have to deal with all this and we could all just be happy instead but... [sniff]...

[The bit of space between them when she draws away is enough for now, so he clasps his fingers around Jane's upper arms again and holds her there as if he's worried she might disappear if he lets go. It's not something he does consciously, but he's lost so many friends here, it's hard to think that the same thing isn't going to just happen again.
