G'day, Ruby City! It's time for a meme for both testdrivers and denizens.

Been itching to test out some CR but haven't had the posts to do it? Thinking of apping a character but not sure they'll fit in the city walls?

Have no fear, a meme for you is here.

Directions:

1. Train Station: New arrival, or waiting to welcome people? Either way, the train comes in, but you still can't ride it out.


2. Cathedral: Looking for redemption? Just doing a little sight-seeing? Or just getting a little shelter?


3. The Clocktower: You can see the whole city from here!


4. The Black Stallion Saloon: You were told the burgers were great here-- but maybe you just came for the beer.


5. The Library: You came to do a little research, but it looks like all of the information's just out of your reach. Though, you can always find a way to pass the time here.


6. The Coffee Joint: Run by James Potter and Lukas, a lovely place to have a chat and a bite to eat.


7. Le Cafe Anglais: A Parisian-British fusion that's as charming as it sounds and serves the best tea around.

1. Just walked in: You intended to get here, and you made your way in; but now someone's caught your eye and you'd like to have a chat.


2. Been here all day: You've been sitting around minding the time. Maybe you didn't notice them at first or maybe you were just working up the courage to talk-- either way, they know you're here and you know it too.


3. Inclimate weather: You're here because you've gotten rained in. This wasn't your choice, but at least it's dry-- right?

[She gives a little nod. While she would still prefer to get things over with quickly, what he says makes sense.]

And how far have you planned, then?

Not far. [ He looks displeased about it. ] I only got here today. I. Well. For a bit I thought it wasn't actually happening- I know people who can make you think things that aren't real or...make you experience fake fears and other similar things.

But you can't fake sensations. And that cigarette felt very real.

Is that so? Then if this is all an illusion, it is a very well constructed one.

[She shakes her head.]

As well, if it were an illusion, I would have other ways of knowing.

[waywardbird]

[ "Other ways". Aw man, was she magic or something. Christ, Jason kind of hated magic. It was so damn complicated. ]

It is what it is. You wanna get out of here? Help me out.

[ Jason grabbed the first book in the stack and held it out to her. ] Start digging.

[She picks up a book and sits down. Flipping it open, she frowns at the words.]

Writing has...changed greatly over the years.

[She mutters to herself. Thanks to the Grail's information, she could read this, but it would take her some work.]

Change happens. It sucks but- it happens. [ He knew damn well how much things changed.

He looked up over his own book, slightly skeptical. ]

How old are you, anyway?

...Old enough to be a king.

[Actually, if one took only time into account, she was only seven years old. But thanks to magic, not only had she grown up super-quickly, but she had been summoned back as a Servant ages after her original death.]

[waywardbird]

That's not vague or anything. [ Jason looks back down at his book and turns the page. ]

Do your best, I guess. Let me know if you need help.

Alright.

[She silently reads through the book until she comes to a place that she cannot understand.]

You. I require your aid in understanding this part.

[waywardbird]

[ Jason closes his book with a small 'smack' and leans forward. ]

Call me Jay. Show me which bit you're talking about.

[penisenvy]

[She runs her finger along one of the lines. It's a section talking about a fern and how it reproduces.]

What are all these strange words?

[waywardbird]

[ Where the hell did he find this book-? He picked these all from the history section. ]

Ah, that's a bunch of science shit. Don't worry about it, it's not relevant. Scientists like to give simple things complicated terms just to fuck with the rest of us.

[Figures. The book she grabbed was one of the few misshelved books.]

Science. As in what replaced magic for humans in general?

[waywardbird]

[ Ah, so she was magic. Figures. ]

I'm pretty sure magic is just science that we haven't figured out yet. But essentially, yeah.

[penisenvy]

...Perhaps. Both of these are meant to create miracles.

[waywardbird]

Sure. I guess.

[ Jason didn't believe in miracles, but he didn't know this girl well enough to rain on her parade yet. ]

[She closes the first book and picks up another. After reading through it a bit, she looks up toward Jason again.]

Jay, what is a Constitution?

[waywardbird]

Depends on the context, kiddo. [ He says, flipping through the pages of his own book. ] Read me the section and I'll try and help you out.

[penisenvy]

"The Democrats argued that the government had no right to curb slavery because it had not been given that power in the Constitution. The Republicans argued that the government could assume that power because it was not forbidden to them in the Constitution."

[She stops reading and waits for his answer.]

[waywardbird]

The American Constitution then. [ Jason leans back in his chair and rests his foot against his knee as he tries to think of how to explain this. It wasn't like he'd finished school, so he may not be the best source. But he did read, so he'd just- do his best. ]

"We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America." [ Jason was surprised he could remember that, actually. All those tutoring sessions with Babs worked out. ]

It was basically a set of guidelines for the nation, telling future generations what was going to fly and what wasn't. Our democracy was a whole new beast, it was't very popular at the time. We had to set our own rules, there wasn't much to reference. It covered the right to bear arms, freedom of religion and expression, the powers of the different governmental branches- it's a long document.

Essentially, it's...basically around to protect the People, the average citizens. The US was built on the backs of average men and they wanted to give those men the rights they felt they were owed.

[ As long as they were white and owned land, anyway. But that was a whole other can of worms and he'd already gone way off track. ]

...That's right. They were the one who didn't want a king. Why didn't they? It's only natural that a king rise to take his people from turmoil and oppression.

[Like her father had done.]

Too bad the king was the one doing the oppressing. King George wasn't doing a whole lot for the American people. Just taxing us and screwing us out of our livelihood.

Then choose an American king to fight against the other one. That's how revolutions are made, isn't it?

[waywardbird]

Kings aren't chosen; kings are made. [ Jason rubbed his chin, still leaning back in his chair. ] And America- well. We weren't really making kings. So we elected a president. A people who chose to revolt also chose their leader, and continue to choose today. It makes sense to me.

[ But then again, he was American. Also not the son of a king. ]
