G'day, Ruby City! It's time for a meme for both testdrivers and denizens.

Been itching to test out some CR but haven't had the posts to do it? Thinking of apping a character but not sure they'll fit in the city walls?

Have no fear, a meme for you is here.

Directions:

• Post with your character with their name and canon on top!

1. Train Station: New arrival, or waiting to welcome people? Either way, the train comes in, but you still can't ride it out.


2. Cathedral: Looking for redemption? Just doing a little sight-seeing? Or just getting a little shelter?


3. The Clocktower: You can see the whole city from here!


4. The Black Stallion Saloon: You were told the burgers were great here-- but maybe you just came for the beer.


5. The Library: You came to do a little research, but it looks like all of the information's just out of your reach. Though, you can always find a way to pass the time here.


6. The Coffee Joint: Run by James Potter and Lukas, a lovely place to have a chat and a bite to eat.


7. Le Cafe Anglais: A Parisian-British fusion that's as charming as it sounds and serves the best tea around.

Scenarios

1. Just walked in: You intended to get here, and you made your way in; but now someone's caught your eye and you'd like to have a chat.


2. Been here all day: You've been sitting around minding the time. Maybe you didn't notice them at first or maybe you were just working up the courage to talk-- either way, they know you're here and you know it too.


3. Inclimate weather: You're here because you've gotten rained in. This wasn't your choice, but at least it's dry-- right?

I did no such thing!

[His voice is a snarl.]

I was fighting King Arthur! It was a battle I had ever intention and every chance of winning. If nothing else we would have fallen together and I would have died bringing my master that much closer to what he wished! Instead, my master chose to run yet again and forced me to kill myself right in the middle of that battle!

I am no coward. It is he who was the coward. I only wish the chance to serve a worthwhile master! If death is the result that is fine, but I do not wish to go out like that! There must be more!

[Her Father...is that how he had known her face? She is distracted as she hears the rest of his rant. It incites her to rage and pity and frustration.]

Fool.

[That is all she can say, given her jumble of feelings.]

You would throw yourself into that mess all over again? Die fighting for another person's desires?

Yes, I would! I am a knight. It is my duty and my honor to help others, but if you think that I think so little of myself that I would be satisfied with a death like I just suffered in the war than you are wrong!

[Diarmuid gives he a steady and confident look.]

That is why I want to stay here. It has nothing to do with cowardice and everything to do with making sure I do everything possible and use every skill I have before I leave the world again! I do the world a dishonor if I do not!

[She has to swallow down her embarrassment.]

I was wrong in my original assessment. You're a dumbass, but that spirit of yours is certainly praiseworthy.

[Diarmuid is quiet for a few moments letting his anger be reduced by her 'apology.' When he speaks, his voice is calmer, though still somewhat tense.]

I will accept that. You are not the first to see my loyal nature and hear my beliefs who has called me an idiot or dumb for having them. If words like that bothered me, then I really would be the coward you just tried to name me.

What are you, if not a fool, if you continue to follow an idea that has failed you? I'd expect those words from a man who hasn't be betrayed. Not you.

I am one who refuses to give up hope just because things went wrong once. I am one who understands and has enough faith to know that someday things will work out. I am one who knows that just because people are fatally flawed sometimes doesn't mean that a system is fatally flawed.

In short, Saber, I am not a quitter. It might take a long time and it might be painful, but someday I will reach my goals and find my wish. I just need not to give up before I get there.

[She stares at him in open mouthed amazement. Then, something inside her seethes.]

[Jealousy.]

[She is jealous of his spirit. Jealous of how he had, as part of his very being, things that she could play at being. Jealous of how he chosen a path different from her. She was jealous of this real, perfect, knight.]

...Man, what an idiot. Do as you like. I won't be the one picking up the pieces of your corpse when you're done.

[Diarmuid smiles gently at her. It is almost as if part of him can unconsciously tell she is jealous, but he does not recognize it consciously.]

That is fine. I ask no one to pick up after me. If I fail, I fail. I can only hope that I will do better the next time a chance presents itself.

[Somehow, his gentle answer only riles her up more.]

You'll do better? With that attitude, no wonder everyone walks all over you.

[Her response startles Diarmuid.]

I have learned I cannot control what others do, Saber. I can only control myself and, therefore, my best chance to make things work is through improving myself. Spending time trying to make others do better when they have no interest in changing only wastes time I could be using to improve those things I can control.

[She makes a small "hmph" noise.]

Start with growing a backbone.

Why is it you keep telling me to do things like that? Do I really seem so weak to you even after all I have explained?

Of course. You're weak and insipid. You look to enslave yourself to others!

[Anger flashes in her eyes.]

You would take all the responsibility and all the pain upon yourself! And no matter how many times people betray you, you refuse to change!

[There's something other than anger in her voice. Desperation? Concern?]

[Diarmuid sighs and rubs at the bridge of his nose.]

Not all prefer to lead, Saber. And without those like me who you call so weak, the leaders would have no one to lead and therefore, could not be leaders.

[He suddenly smiles something that looks suspiciously like a smirk.]

And just so you know, there was a time when I led. Just because I choose to follow now does not make me any less of a man than I was back then when I took up the mantle of leadership.

But--!

[She has to bite back the embarrassing words and mentally chide herself for even letting the thought pass her mind. For a second, she had wanted to say something like "A man who understands chivalry so well should be a leader."]

[She doesn't feel anything positive for him! It's impossible!]

I suppose you are right. Some are born to lead, some are born to follow.

[Her lips curl into a smirk to match his.]

Perhaps after I attain the Grail, I will allow you to follow me. So I can wring the foolishness out of you.

[Diarmuid shakes his head and laughs.]

You make two false assumptions there, Saber. One is that YOU will win the Grail instead of me and the second is that I will still feel like following once all is said and done.

Who knows. Perhaps once I win I will allow you to follow me so that you learn the value of being a follower.

Is that a challenge?

[She smiles.]

If so, I shall gladly accept. Just do not regret making it when you lose.

[Diarmuid returns the smile.]

I have yet to regret anything in my life, Saber. I have no intent to start now...

[He pauses suddenly, his expression falling as he remembers his war for the Grail is now over thanks to the actions of his master. Who knew when he might get the chance to try for the Grail again?]

It is unfortunate, but if your war is still ongoing, then you have the advantage over me.

[She shrugs.]

A regrettable matter, then, that we could not have been summoned into the same Grail War.

Yes, that would have been more ideal, wouldn't it?

[His smile returns.]

But don't think that means I have given up. I don't give up. I will find a way somehow.

I'll wait then. Until you find that way.

[He bows his head to her.]
